Bracken Christian hit a brick wall in the second half as Fredericksburg Heritage scored 40 unanswered points in an important district win, 64-36.

Patriot Propane is All In for Bracken Christian
“We are going to make some adjustments on defense,” Head Coach Hosea Stredic started. “There is no aggressiveness in our defense and we have regressed in the last two weeks and next week we will need to go back to the basics.”
The first half had indications that this game might go down to the wire but the Eagles had second thoughts as Heritage had scores by interceptions, kick-offs, pass and run. The whole package was unveiled in this contest.

The ReSporter has secured the final District 28-4A stats for this season and would like to give the Hawk Nation some information for the upcoming Playoff news.
Wimberley will be the opponent and the game will have the first serve starting at 7:00pm on November 1st at Johnson City High School gym. So this is the time to have all hands on deck as the Lady Hawks will need all the support available for this contest.
Playing against Wimberley will be a chore as this school’s middle name is ‘Playoff’, as Canyon Lake will attempt to knock the Texans from the playoff roster in the first game which has not happened to Wimberley since the last century. It is not known the date but this club was winning State Championships in the late 1990’s.
A tall order but with a win already under their belt in games this season with the Texans, it can be said that this Hawk team will be ready for this battle.

Head Volleyball Coach Kim Paisley
The ReSporter: In comparison to the last 2 playoff teams, what is it about this team that gives you an idea of how they will approach the tournament?
Coach Paisley: “The Varsity teams from the last 2 years, were made of some astounding athletes with raw talent! They worked hard and were fighters! This year’s team is made of determined and relentless athletes, therefore I know they will fight until the end. I’m excited to see where this team takes us in the postseason!”
The ReSporter: How important was it to have a convincing win against Bandera?
Coach Paisley: “After the loss to Fredericksburg, we had a discussion about “Doing Your Job” and “What is your job?” This conversation combined with a great practice lead us to a win over Bandera and set the tone. This momentum from the match and ending district in 2nd place will launch us positively into the playoffs.”

Story by Cory Martelli
The CL JV middle line backer Micheal Harwell blitzed right up the middle on Cibolo Steele’s first offensive play for a 6 yard sack and that was a precursor of how the game would go for the D -1 6A JV (B) Steels football team. “ I’m glad I’m here getting the reps on JV to make myself better player on Varsity, just anything to make me a better football player” spouted mike linebacker Harwell. The Hawks held Steele to a paltry 12 yards in the first half as the offense swallowed up the clock during the first half of play with two continuous drives.

Andrew Nelson & Michael Harwell help in JV’s Win over Steele
Steele’s size and speed was halted during the first half as the first two possessions went three and out with two booming punts of 42 and 45 yards.
However, that just gave the Hawks more room to run the Slot “T” offense to the discouragement of the Steele’s defense. Steele did not have a clue as to effectively halt an offense which most likely anyone playing with a helmet had ever seen before. On several occasions Caleb Almond or Rolando Maronge ran right by linebackers who were looking the other way, a true sign of a well run Slot –T offense.
As with most 5A and 6A schools, never see a Slot-T offense, as most larger schools in that divisional range run a spread of sorts or variances thereof. Seeing a well run Slot-T can be confusing when trying to defend against it for the first time.

Canyon Lake’s Freshman Volleyball squad wins District 28-4A in grand fashion in sweep of Bandera for the season finale.
As far as this group of Freshman play, their games usually involve some form of drama but on this final night for the season, a Hawk win was a sweep without much resistance.
Resistance was ‘futile’, taking a little Star Trek the Next Generation lingo for the parents.
You can tell one thing is pretty clear with this group as they do not like to lose and with a loss in their last game with Fredericksburg, getting that game out of their system was accomplished with a, 25-16 and 25-15 sweep.

CL Hawks finish regular season with a win over Bandera that will pit their next round in the playoffs with Wimberley. The place and time will be announced later this week as Canyon Lake finished district play in second place with this win over the Bulldogs.
Good times with a chance of beating the Texans in something that they excel in with all of their past State Championships.
In the game with Bandera, the Hawks were coming off a lethargic game with Fredericksburg last Friday that put this game with the Bulldogs for a battle to see who would garner the 2nd seed of District 28-4A.
“This was especially sweet after the Fredericksburg game,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said. “We needed to win like this to carry over into the playoffs…..I wanted us to go strong into the playoffs.”

Head Coach Charley Drum
The ReSporter: You have mentioned in past talks on how this younger group of players on how their winning ways might change on the mindset for this team. How has that mentality played through this group of players?
Coach Drum: “Starting with our off season last year, this group has been very competitive. Whether is is football, academics, or video games, they enjoy competing and winning.”
