What a Swarming Hawk Defensive Unit Looks Like
The ReSporter continues the Hawk Football series and with just 10 days away for players to report we will go over CL’s defense and then finish inside a week going over the Special Team.

Repeat Boutique Says Go Defense
Last year’s defense had some rocky moments and was a very inconsistent group as a whole.
The only thing consistent about last years defensive unit was how inconsistent they were.
There were a couple of games where the CL Defense worked their way into the top 10 of all-time games.
Those two games were Fredericksburg and Bandera as Canyon Lake gave up 144 and 194 yards respectfully in those contests.
Six of the 10 games on that all-time defensive yardage list, are games with the Billies and Bulldogs. So, that information might suggest that the Hawks match up very well with those two teams.

Summer time has time for vacation and taking a break before school starts in earnest in August.

Repeat Boutique Says Go Hawks
For some students, there will be other opportunities like Speed and Strength camp through June and July.
Then you have athletes that just keep playing with select teams to get game competition in their favorite sports to acquire more repetition and experience as four Hawk girls did in Soccer.
Rachel Bennett, Ashley Fouse, Kaitlyn White, and Brandi Schimonsky competed last weekend in the 3v3 Live Under the Lights Tournament in San Antonio.
The foursome placed 3rd in the High School/Female Adult division.
“They did amazing,” Head Soccer Coach Ryan Tierney said excitedly. “This means the world to me as a coach, I love seeing individual athletes working hard in the off-season trying to improve upon their skills, speed, and strength.”
Coach Tierney was not finished, “As a coach, it makes me excited about the upcoming season and I cannot wait to see how those individuals who worked so hard are capable of.”
“I enjoyed getting to bond with part of my team more in preparation for the coming season,” Centerback Kaitlyn White said. “ And I liked just the experience of competing with them outside of school ball.”

White will be a senior on this next year’s Hawk Soccer team and is coming off with a Second Team All-District honor after last season.
Rachel Bennett also shared her experience, “I believe these competitions help us stay in shape and keep our mind focused on the right things for the up-coming season.”
Bennett will be a Junior this coming season and this Center Midfield player was honored with a First Team All-District award after the season.
When asked how events like this will translate for the season in January, Coach Tierney said, “I have found that there is a direct correlation between these type of events and success on the soccer field.”
“It always seems that the athlete who does camps, tournaments, or just consistently plays the game or workout over the summers always comes into the new school year ahead of the rest. I have noticed those athletes seem to be the ones that make the difference in some way or another when the season roles around as well.”
Congratulations Ladies and the Hawk Nation will look forward to seeing you compete this coming school year.

Hawks on Offense this Season
The ReSporter will start a 3-part series on this upcoming Hawk Football team as they prepare for another year.
One thing to take note is having less teams in this year’s new edition for district play.

Y4 Custom Homes Supports All of the Hawks Sports
The loss of Bandera and Liberty Hill is a good and bad happening, in how CL struggled against Liberty Hill and had never lost to Bandera.
CL’s district did add Austin East-Memorial and this school will be playing up this season as in year’s past this team has been playing schools that would not be considered stellar.
So with just five schools, the district slate will be reduced one game and after the last contest in November, the district race will have one fewer team deleted. from the playoffs.

Defense is the name of the game
The ReSporter spends a lot of time with the offense side of stats and now is a good time to show-off many Hawk athletes that have excelled on the defensive side of the ball.

Country Comfort Supports Hawk Football
This update can give all those aspiring future Hawks an idea of what they can do to work their way up that leader board.
Canyon Lake’s best defensive effort can probably be tagged for the 2009 season as that crew forced a great amount of turnovers as well as keeping opponents within striking range on the score board.
There were a few games that ended up out of reach but for the most part that 2009 team was nails.
With that tidbit, understand that many of those stats for that age group had very few numbers to put down for compiling.
Bobby Flint did have his 2008 tackles recorded but he was the only player to get that red carpet treatment.

Go Hawks!!
Last year’s trio of, Haden Lee, Robert Woods, and Matt Adams will be tough to replace as you peruse the names below.
The 2015 Senior Class was not a large group but the ones that stayed around did contribute in all aspects of their game.
There are just 24 days when the Hawks will start their 2016 season quest and 49 days before Canyon Lake will take the field in Blanco.
Thanks for reading and The ReSporter will have more articles coming this month on this year’s offense/defense/special teams.

Football | Comments Off on Canyon Lake’s All-Time Scorers for Football

Hawks Defense could define how good their Season goes
First, realize that this is an idea of what might or could happen if everything comes together for the Hawks starting in about 2 months.
This ‘best case’ would be based on injuries or lack of injuries as well as having the players being at their peak as well as keeping all of those other intangibles coming up roses for those 11 weeks of play.
Much has been made of how well Blanco plays in their first game and CL can certainly vouch for that sentiment as the Hawks have been on the losing side the past three years with no offense to speak of in those losses.
What would need to change to start this campaign with a win? A mind set that Blanco will give their best effort and that leaves Canyon Lake no room to take this game lightly.

Football | Comments Off on Best Case Scenario Look at This Year’s Hawk Season

Just 64 days before kick-off
What might be the worst case scenario for this year’s edition of Canyon Lake’s Varsity?
In other words, knowing that an obvious answer being an 0-10 game count, that record did not even come about in that first year Hawk team after a win over Ingram on the road.
The ReSporter will go through what type of season, game by game, based on tendencies and what if’s based on how events happening’s with those worst case situations.
First Game with Blanco will find CL with an 0-1 record as the Hawks always have a tough time starting strong as past campaigns would indicate.
The Panthers seem to have CL’s number for that first game and this year might be more of the same.
This game is an away game for the Hawks and in the past three openers with Blanco, Canyon Lake has only been awarded 13 points.
