Braden Duke, Bradley Hight, Braden Hight, and Colton McDonald after win over Bandera JV, 46-7
Canyon Lake JV beat Bandera in a run away to improve to 2-0 in District 14-4A play, Thursday night at Hawk Stadium, 46-7.
“We started to do what they are suppose to do,” Head JV Coach John Barthels said. “We were more aggressive and this team is stepping it up in practice against the Varsity and this is the result.”
The Hawks started this evening with a fumble on their 4th play of the game after covering 51 yards on those snaps.
That would be the only time a Bulldog would stop Canyon Lake as the rest of this night was all Hawk.
Running back/Defensive back, Lee Stafford had 43 yards on that first drive, with a long of 38 yards through the middle of that Bulldogs line.

Coach Kim Paisley instructing for placement of a Hawk Serve.
The ReSporter was able to get with a busy Coach Paisley as this year’s squad is working on a perfect district slate. Go to the updated Standings article and you will see how Navarro needed to go 5 sets in disposing La Vernia and Wimberley lost in 5 sets to upstart Cuero team.
The ReSporter: Does going through the district on the 2nd round give teams a good idea of how they have progressed? What are signs besides wins and losses that help you gauge that idea.
Coach Paisley: “I look at how we execute offensively and defensively in comparison to the first round’s execution. I like to look for strategic execution based off film study, and that is rewarding as a coach to see when your team takes from what they learned and apply it successfully during the match.”
The ReSporter: On that same note, when you look at this year’s team, how good your team is can be based on placing CL at this moment back during the Tournament season and asking yourself, which games would we win with this team now, so how many of those losses would be counted as wins? Cade Middleton, Daniel Forgione and Brady Beene are ready for taking on district foes after win over New Braunfels Christian
Bracken Christian roared back in their second district game and skunked the New Braunfels Christian Wildcats, 47-0.
Coach had several players in the game that played more than usual and on top of that were playing positions on the field that they had not played before.
When asked if the players did well that were in positions not played before, Head Coach Hosea Stredic said, “The didn’t get a F.”
This game was over after the first drive as Senior Daniel Forgione had the first 3 carries for 47 yards with Baylee Tremont finishing the drive off with his first of two touchdowns on the day.
Tremont missed the 100 yard rushing mark by just four steps as several Warriors got into action on this night.

Senior Linebacker Hayden Lee is second leading tackler for Hawks only trailing Bobby Flint
Canyon Lake had a tough night in loss to Liberty Hill with an anemic offensive night losing, 31-7.
“We turned the ball over and then we faced a defensive line that is the best I have seen in the last few years,” Head Coach Charley Drum calculated. “When an team defers during the pre/game coin toss, then you know they will have a pretty stout defense.”
Canyon Lake had a decent first half only trailing by 7 points and that from a fumble return being the difference.
“They took advantage of our three mistakes,” Coach Drum continued. “Our younger kids grew up tonight and there are a lot of positives we can take from tonights game…..We are right into ball games and we need to find ways of cleaning up mistakes.”
The Hawks first half numbers had 117 yards and during the second half CL totaled another 9 yards of offense with 3 turnovers giving you an idea that a 24 point loss not looking as bad as it sounds.

Preston Nelms thinking about that next play in his pursuit for a win next week
Mountain Valley 7th Grade lost both games against Liberty Hill Middle School last Thursday at the Hawk nest as the Panthers brought a large contingence of players in both wins.
In that first game, Mountain Valley made a game in what was started as a romp.
Liberty Hill enjoyed a 16-0 lead going into halftime as well as dominating both lines of scrimmage.
Then, Running Back Preston Nelms was awakened with only 16 yards rushing in that first half, Nelms then turned on his after burners as he almost broke the 100 yard barrier.
“Coach asked who would step up during our halftime talk,” Nelms said with resolve. “Our lineman finally started doing what they were suppose to do.”

Hawks getting 1 more thought as they contemplate their 1 point win
CL Hawk Freshman team now have a 12 game winning streak after a thrilling comeback win over LH Panthers at the Hawk nest, Thursday night.
“I am proud of these young man,” Head Freshman Coach Bill Greene started. “We talked on how this game we would be setting our pads and this would be the first time someone would come back.”
Coach Greene was commenting on how most of the teams played this season have not challenged this group of players.
The Hawks had not had a team this year that has scored more than one touchdown against them and some of those scores were after the game had been decided.
Liberty Hill started the game with a first play fumble that was recovered by Hawk’s Cameron Hebert.
A 12 play drive by the Hawks where there were 3 fourth down plays was a good eye opener with some tough play being common.
The bad news was that Canyon Lake came up one yard short on that final fourth down play resulting in the Panthers taking over on LH’s 9 yard line.
The Panthers would respond with a 14 play drive covering 91 yards and the first score after Running Back Kyle Harrison took a 29 yard run to paydirt.
