Canyon Lake Lady’s Basketball lost their Friday game with Wimberley but with Gonzales taking some lumps from Navarro guaranteed CL to qualify after this Tuesday’s game.
Stay tuned to Hilltop and we will get you info on where and who the Hawks will be playing.
Congratulations!!
Likewise, the Boy’s Basketball squad finished the week 1-1 and will take on La Vernia this Tuesday.
The Hawks would settle things with an upset over the Bears this Tuesday.
Canyon Lake will have one other game a week later against Yoakum and the Bulldogs helped the Hawks cause immensely when they lost their game to Cuero last Friday.
The Boys team is coupled with CL’s Boys Soccer as the only team sport to yet make it out of district play by qualifying for playoffs.
Hawk Soccer has started to make some noise this season as they sport a 7-4 record and presently on a 5 game winning streak.
That will be the same until district starts up in two weeks and finding a way to also qualify for the playoffs would make this season one of the best in Hawk Sport’s history.
This week CL beat a high caliber team in San Marcos Academy on Tuesday and then followed that win with their first home win on Friday over Burnet.
CL’s Girls Soccer finished this past week with 2 ties with one of those games having the Hawks coming back from a 3 goal deficit.
Softball is still in exhibition stage with Harper’s game this Tuesday being the last game before contests start counting.
Baseball will also be starting this week as the Spring Schedule starts to get interesting.
The Varsity Tennis will have their first competition this Friday as they will travel to Georgetown’s Kerry Minzenmayer Classic.
There has to be a sport you can come and support this year’s Spring edition for Hawk sports.
Go Hawks!!

Canyon Lake Boy’s Soccer is on a Roll after their win over Burnet on Friday night, 4-2.
This is now a 5 game winning streak which matches the most wins in a season except for the present campaign as CL now resides with a 7-4 record.
Mike Thorpe had a hat trick with 3 goals on the night which gave him 13 goals for this year and has more points for this year than his previous two campaigns.
“He’s (Thorpe) been our captain for 3 years now and he is our team leader,” Head Coach Warren Graham admonished. “Obviously he is very important for us offensively and players will try to key on him…but the key for us will be feed and dish.”

Will Gray dished out 5 Assists in loss to Texans
Canyon Lake had their moments in a loss to Wimberley but those moments were fleeting as CL fell short, 58-49.
“They were on the boards and being physical and that limited our chances,” Coach Brian Hooper said as he filled in for an ill Coach Chapman. “We did a good job of breaking their press and we did some good things.”
Hawk fans have heard it before, but the free throw line was their downfall as the Texans took advantage with sharpshooting while the misses would be rebounded by the team in red for another chance of scoring.
Which Wimberley did on 6 different occasions for more points. Add those missed opportunities up and it would more points than this 9 point loss.
Oh yeah, that same free throw line for CL turned into 40% shooting or another six point left on the hardwood.

Head Coach John Gallagher
Canyon Lake Softball team will see if their hands fit the gloves as they will have their first scrimmage this Thursday.
The ReSporter had a conversation with Head Coach John Gallagher to get an idea of where this team might be as the season gets going.
The ReSporter: Let’s start with how you feel about the Hawks schedule.
Coach Gallagher: “I think our schedule gives us a great opportunity to get in some quality innings of work. The two stand alone games against very good teams and we always face high quality competition in the Navarro tournament. The next two tournaments have Center Point, Mason, Seminole, Harper, Fltonia, as well as Blanco and Johnson City. All will be solid opponents.
The ReSporter: Last year you lost some games due to weather, that might mean you would be the one person praying for no rain. Read the rest here »

Canyon Lake Girls Soccer won a tied game when they came from 3 goals down to knot the score as time expired on Tuesday night against Burnet, 3-3.
Burnet jumped out to a 3 goal lead and had CL on their heels until an awakening happened allowing this comeback.
“The girls played aggressive last night and the first half was rough for us offensively,” Head Coach Ryan Tierney said. “We had opportunities but could not put the ball in the net.”
Coach Tierney was commenting on that first half where the Hawks found themselves digging a hole that would be hard to escape from.
“The girls dug deep and made a decision as a unit to fight,” Coach Tierney got excited. “Rachel Bennet sent a the ball to Meredith Ellery who then scored off her left foot and Captain Chloe Cullen fired a shot into the back of the net inside the 18 yard box bringing the score to 2-3.”
