From Left to Right: Luis Juarez, Duncan Coleman, Calvin Graves, Wyatt Wiggins, Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher, Ty Sexton, Reid Crownover, (not shown)-Adam Wiewel
Canyon Lake’s Boy’s Cross Country team will be off to the races this week at they will embark on their second year of running the Regional race after finishing in 3rd place last week in Sequin.
“As a whole, everyone is running better but so is the district,” Head Cross Country Coach Mary Beth Gallagher started. “We knew we had to step up our game this year.”
Graduate Nash Opperman led the crew last year for the first opportunity to cash in on qualifying in last year’s district meet. Opperman is now running in Schreiber at Kerrville after the successful season.
“We had boy’s finish ahead of Nash’s (Opperman) time last year and they did not even place in this meet,” Coach Gallagher said in amazement. “So we have accomplished more as a team this year.”

CL Hawk Band Adding to the Football Drama each Friday Night
Canyon Lake won their second game in a row in district play keeping the Hawks in second place after win over Fredericksburg, 17-6.
“We talked and knew this game would be a struggle,” Head Coach Charley Drum stated. “We got the lead and they (the Billies) just could not get any consistency offensively.”
“We just kept chopping wood,” Coach Drum said. “We made the plays and we just stepped up on that drive.”
This game was a defensive affair as each team had 5 possessions in that first half and that last drive for CL would be huge.
The Hawks took advantage with their final time on offense in the half, when second string QB Jackson Neel, found Austin Brennan on a 37 yard pass pitting the ball on the Billies 3 yard line.

Troy Eyster and Noah Du Menial are all smiles after Blurring the Billies and both moving up to MVMS A Team
The Mountain Valley 7th A Squad was all over Fredericksburg like read is over a book, 32-0.
This game was all MV Hawks as both the defense and offense control the line of scrimmage with a shut out and almost 300 yards of offense as this Billie team would need to explain all of those brands left on their back side when the got home.
Enter, Running Back Troy Eyster, who could have scored twice on each of his runs as he lapped the Billies with each carry.
Try this on for size: Runs for Eyster would consist of yardage of 13, 30, 27, and 25 yard touchdown to run out the clock.
Actually Eyster was so fast he really did run out the clock as their was still :35 seconds left on this running clock when he scored and no more plays needed as the running clock was kept on in trying to catch this runner.
“We were focused in practice this week,” Eyster batted an eye. “The offensive line is great and they always make holes for me to run through this week and we will got ready after last week’s loss.”
Has The ReSporter mentioned that Eyster is fast yet?

Fullback Rolando Maronge helps in another Hawk Gold Win
The CL Hawks Gold team ran away from Fredericksburg in Thursday night’s win, 24-6.
This Gold team has not much press this year since most of the games have been on the road. There was one game to be played at Hawk Stadium about a month ago, but lightning cancelled that contest and no game played.
So the Gold Hawks decided to show the home folk how they have been disposing of opponents this season.
On CL’s first drive, they took 6 plays before they would make their mark on this Billie team when Rolando Maronge took the game and ball in hand for the one yard touchdown dive play.
This drive had three good runs by different backs as Maronge took care of the last three runs after Carter McCormick with a 17 yard dash and a Zack Burgess 35 yard run with both helping in getting that first score.

Triston Chacon
A battle of two undefeated teams was played out at Hawk Stadium as Canyon Lake left the field with their no loss season in tack, 14-6.
Canyon Lake figured out real early that this would be a good game as Fredericksburg used the quarterback read play with their QB running the ball from their 28 yard line to the Hawks 41 marker before a forced punt after three average running plays.
Then on the Billies defensive side of the ball, CL was throttled with a 15 yard drive on 6 plays resulting in a punt which is a position not seen much during this year’s games.
That punt by Trenton Lorett did travel 54 yards backing Fredericksburg inside their 20 yard line.
The Billies started their scoring on that drive after going 81 yards on 11 plays, when Running Back Sebera scored from 5 yards out.
A 33 yard pass play helped in getting Fredericksburg in good field position for that score as the Billies needed 23 yards for a first on that play.

Zoe Edwards showing good form for a kill in Win against Cuero
Canyon Lake JV win another game getting one more victory closer to a District 26-4A Championship, 25-18, 23-25, 25-15.
This Hawk club is a heart attack waiting to happen as they have a way of going 3 sets in almost all of their district games.
On this night in their game with Cuero, the Hawk’s JV team decided to lose the second set where in the past the first set was that contest with the first loss.
“We get comfortable and then our communication broke down in that second set,” Head JV Coach Megan Helmey said. “We talked about wanting to defend their district title and start trusting each other and show this team (Cuero) who we are.”

Block Party after another Win
Canyon Lake avenged their only set loss for this season as they swept the Cuero Gobblers, 25-18, 25-15, and 25-18.
CL continues their hot streak as they win their 18th game in a row and stay undefeated at 10-0 in district play.
“We are still not done,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said. “A 12-0 record in district looks better than our 10-0 right now.”
With this win the Hawks have clinched a share of a District Championship needing just one more victory to have the title outright.
