Hawk Crawfish Boil Support Canyon Lake Track & Field
The ReSporter: Tell me how you see the future for this Girls team….I see a lot of good things coming from this group of ladies.
Coach Barthels: “We are a young team, we are only graduating a couple of seniors. 2 of the 3 relay teams consisted of 3 freshmen and a sophomore with pretty good JV times in those same events. We had a group of girls that worked hard in practice and competed on meet days with almost everyone improving on their times at each meet. At district we finished 2nd as a JV team with only 11 girls. Varsity girls set records in the 4X100, and the Long Jump. I see the future looking bright with a few girls already asking if they can run track this year. Obviously the more girls we can have come to track the better we can be.

Micah St. John and the Hawks dominate in the Hurdles
Canyon Lake Boy’s Track Team will have six students taking their craft to the Area Meet on April 23rd at home.
The Boy’s Varsity finished 4th overall as the future will certainly be on the upswing as the Junior Varsity finished on top in this year’s District 26-4A Track Meet.
Brandon Courtney will represent CL in three events as he continues to shine in both hurdle runs while also helping the 4×400 Meter Relay team to a 3rd place finish with a time that has only been topped one time for the Hawks back during the 2012 team.
Henshaw, Camarillo, Hubnik and Covarrubias has the record when they finished with a 3:26.55 that season.
Courtney’s 300 Meter Hurdle run was the first ever to break the 40 second barrier and with a little more adrenaline, this Hawk could have a chance of doing well at Regions.
Austin Camacho won the 800 Meter Run and in so doing broke his previous Hawk record and will now concentrate on breaking that elusive two minute barrier which could also have a high finish in the Area Meet this Saturday.
Freshman and Sophomores make up this year’s Mile Relay squad and breaking the 3:30 mark will hopefully have good results as this relay team hopes to continue their climb to lower time barriers.

Senior Mariah Ellis and five other Hawks are heading to Area Meet this week.
Canyon Lake will be a fun place to hang out these next few years on the cinders as the Girls and Boys Junior Varsity finished 2nd and 1st respectfully in this year’s District 26-4A Track Meet.
Rain has been a constant during this track season and the district was no different as schedules were changed throughout this meet in order to finish before weather took control.
There was an hour delay but all the events were completed as the Hawks finished with 381 combined points counting both JV and Varsity teams.
Sophomore Kaylie Duke turned in a glowing day of work finishing with 28 points and scoring in four events for the Lady Hawk JV team.
Duke won the 100 Meter Dash and then ran legs in the 4×100 and 4×200 first place relay teams. She also added a second place finish for the long jump.
Felicity Neistemski was responsible for 21 Hawk points as she won the 800 Meter Run and finished second in the 400 Meter Dash. That 400 Meter finish was three seconds better than previous meets for Neistemski while that 800 run was four seconds lower than previous competitions this season.

Track & Field | Comments Off on Hawk’s Girls Track Place 6 for Area Meet, While JV Finish 2nd in District 26-4A

Hawks were presented a rainbow during their game and in Wimberley
Canyon Lake’s Softball Team stays alive for the weekend as the Cuero game was postponed until this coming Monday due to weather.
Meanwhile in Wimberley, the Hawks, held on with a one run game as the contest was almost lost in that final inning with the winning run at the plate when Center Fielder Carly Dubois caught that final out, 8-7.
CL had an 8-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning as the Texans responded with 6 unanswered runs as Hawk fans were working on getting appointments with their local Nail Salon.
“We fought through some adversary with the weather and were focused up until that fifth inning,” Head Coach John Gallagher said while biting his nails. “We had been working on laying off the high pitches but we had some trouble swinging at those pitches.”

Addison Ray and Chandra Wise team up for win over Cuero Gobbler’s
Canyon Lake’s JV Softball team is still, relatively speaking, a new entity as the Hawks have not had enough players in the past to field such a club.
Last season’s JV team had three players starting on the Varsity squad as freshman and even for this season, CL has a pitcher playing a prominent role on this year’s Hawk team as a freshman.
Suffice to say, winning had not been something that came easily for this team.
On Tuesday night, the Hawks rushed out to a five run first inning and rode that Gobbler to the finish line, winning, 7-6.
Twelve players saw action with many of the key plays coming in those later innings when some of the players who started the game on the bench came through defensively in preserving the lead and win.
CLJV started the game scoring 5 runs with the first inning being halted with only one out being recorded by Cuero.

Senior Evan Schuller finishes strong with Canyon Lake Sports
Canyon Lake seems to have a disease that goes around about this time of the year that affects many students.
Senior(itis) seems to be more of a problem at CL than other schools.
A look at schools like Fredericksburg and Yoakum, you will see track teams that have a lot of athletes that are finishing the race as they finish out their high school career.
Evan Schuller is bucking that (itis) trend as he is very involved as he finishes his playing days being involved with 5 track events.
“I did not do any track but Coach wanted me to get involved in my Junior year for football,” Schuller said.
Now Schuller is liking track and is all in for his final year of school, since he does not have another year of football, therefore nothing to be held accountable by coaches.

Texas RV supports Canyon Lake Softball
Canyon Lake’s backs are against the wall after losing to Cuero at home Tuesday night, 11-4.
The Hawks could have been in good shape if they had beaten the Gobblers, with a sweep, CL would have had a chance to advance on their own terms.
Now, Canyon Lake will need to rely on other teams to win or lose to open a playoff door for this season.
Two more games on the schedule and then when the dust settles, Canyon Lake will have to be sure their are no hanging chads in order to proceed.
Cuero took the lead in Tuesday’s game with a run in the first inning without recording a hit.
Kelsey Ahrens would then tie the score with a hit that sailed over the fence in right center field and the game was even.
In the third inning, Canyon Lake would lose the lead and game for good after a towering 3- run homer off the bat of the Gobblers catcher that would spell doom for the Hawks.
