Bracken, Woo Hits, Victoria Cobra in Win, 52-19

Daniel Forgione is looking to pass his Coach (brother) on the all-time rushing list

Bracken Christian Woo Hits Victoria Cobras in , 52-19 win at Warrior Stadium last Friday night to start their season 2-0.

It happened near the end of the game when Sophomore Cristian DeLeon laid a hit on the Cobra kick-off return man right after picking up the ball. A woo hit that excited, new head football coach, Hosea Stredic.

“We finally hit somebody,” and that hit had several people, including Coach Stredic, pumping his fist in the air and exclaiming, Woooo!!!!

“Don’t get me wrong, we teach the kids how to tackle and we have been doing that, but we are tackling without hitting….the team has been swarming to the ball to get a tackle. When you have a hit available then you need to make it a woo hit and then you can hear everyone in the stands say, ‘wooo’.”

It was the Cobra’s that got the first woo when they took their second possession for a score for their first and only lead of the game.

Quarterback Brady Beene was off on his first pass of the game which resulted in an interception, giving the Cobras the ball and eventual score on their next possession.

Beene did not have one of his best games passing as he missed on some wide open receivers but he also responded when needed for this win.

Defensive End Tyler McCleary making himself known in game with the Tigers

Canyon Lake’s, the Young and the Restless, came alive in the second half beating the Smithville Tigers, 25-14 for their first win of the season.

“This team cannot use the ‘we are young’ any longer and that excuse can’t go on,” Head Coach Charley Drum said. “We did not play with any juice starting the game….but we showed it in the second half.”

The Tigers had a total of 12 offensive plays in that second half with a total of 30 yards as the Hawks controlled the ball for 20 of the 24 minutes in the second stanza. To be exact, CL> 19:50 and Smithville > 4:10.

That first half had the Tigers with a 14-7 lead after scoring on a 34 yard pass play with no time left on the clock.

The Tigers made the most of their opportunities in that first part of the game as their passing offense had 180 yards, capped off by a 62 yard catch run to the Hawk’s 1 yard line in scoring the first touchdown in this game.

Smithville had 217 halftime yardage and finished the game with just 30 more yards in that second half.

Defensive Ends, Robert Woods and Tyler McCleary had so many sacks that HEB said they had a job for life in sacking if they wanted that opportunity.

17 Year Old Tyler Bishop with Anthony Ozuna after 18-0 whitewash over Smithville

17 Year Old Tyler Bishop with Anthony Ozuna after 18-0 whitewash over Smithville

CLJV had a birthday bash for Smithville on Thursday night as they methodically took care of the Tigers in their first home game of the season.

Right out of the gate the surprise Birthday was sniffed out as Defensive Back Tyler Bishop decided to jump on a gift from the Smithville Quarterback and took it home for a 40 yard interception return.

The interception was on the third play from scrimmage and the gift was opened and used for becoming the only gifts needing to be opened for the win.

“I knew they would be throwing a pass and I told Caimen (McDonough) to be looking for it,” Clairvoyant Bishop said.

Bishop celebrated his 17th Birthday on this night and what a present in the size of a oblong object being thrown in your direction.

Cade Dunavant and Cooper Harris are one-two punch in win over Smithville

Canyon Lake Freshman keep on rolling as they cleaned up the Tigers on Thursday night winning, 34-0.

Smithville started the game with 14 running plays and taking the script from the Hawk’s playbook in taking the air from the clock.

The Tigers were finally stopped after reaching the CL 13 yard line and that would be all the offense this team would accumulate.

This drive ended with Smithville garnering 48 yards and the Tigers finished the game with 43 total yards.

“We did not have the our minds right and we were not focused,” QB Cooper Harris stated. “We started to be a real football team after the second half started…..we got a pep talk at halftime and Coach said we needed to get our head out.”

Canyon Lake’s Head Coach Charley Drum

The ReSporter: Another tough game with Blanco, last season you changed some personnel after that loss…will you be making some changes this week?

Coach Drum: “Not as much, the effort was there and the mistakes can be taken care of. We wanted to see their set and they (the players) did the same thing.”

The ReSporter: That old adage of how a team improves from game one to game two, what are your thoughts.

Coach Drum: “They did well and we had a lot of improvement from the last scrimmage to the game with Blanco. They get it, were they perfect? No! But I like what I saw.” Read the rest here »

Volleyball: CL Hawks Run Away with Win Over Marion

Junior setter Regan Mickey finished with 29 assists in win over Marion

Junior setter Regan Mickey finished with 29 assists in win over Marion

Canyon Lake ran away with their score over Marion winning, 3-0 in their Tuesday match up with the Bulldogs.

“Coach (Paisley) said that if they scored over 12 points then their would be consequences,” Junior Setter Regan Mickey said.

When asked what those consequences might be, Mickey was succinct, “We knew Coach would have us running.”

So that will explain the three set scores: 25-17, 25-20, and 25-7. Notice that last set score and you will see a group of players taking their coach seriously.

The two outside hitters had good matches finishing the contest with 17 and 13 kills for Addison Farley and Bailey Drum respectively.

There was good play all around in the game from the net to the back row as each player had a say in the final score.
