The AquaHawks will swim in the Maverick Summer Swim League. This is a league for swimmers ages 5-18 years in San Antonio. The championship meet is held at the World Class Palo Alto College Natatorium in San Antonio. Some of our CLHS swimmers participated in this league a couple of years ago and had a great experience.

The Hawks pointing to Tiare Kacir after getting the winning hit against Wimberley
The high drama was in action once again at the Hawk Softball Diamond, as Canyon Lake continued their suspenseful season winning in the 10th inning over Wimberley, 6-5.
CL was never in the lead in this game until it counted, the end of the third extra inning.
The bottom of the batting order did most of the damage on this night as Cameron Berger worked a one out walk in the 10th inning.
Berger has a little over 2 percent chance of walking as this free pass was a thing of beauty with that final result a win. It was Berger’s 4th walk in her career and 3rd one for this year in over 150 at bats.
Berger doesn’t like to walk, but would rather run, when she can be that winning score in extra innings.
Lizzy Henderson was next and had 2 hits already in this game but was called upon to sacrifice Berger over to second base which she did like a pro.
Now with Berger on second, it was time for Tiare Kacir to give Canyon Lake another district win with a sharp single (her second hit of the game) between second and first base to drive home the winning run on a 2 strike pitch and send the Texans home.

Triple Jumper Bailey Drum wants to go further.
The ReSporter: Is your team at full strength as you head to District play?
Coach Barthels: “Yes, we are at full strength with most of our girls having better times each week in the running events and better distances and heights on field events.”
The ReSporter: What event will be the strongest and why?
Coach Barthels: “At this point in time I would say that our hurdle events are the strongest right now with Bailey, Sydney and Abby all getting better as the year goes on. Our Sprint relay is running the fastest times ever at CLHS with the 4×200 relay on track to one of the best times ever. That being said, we are still a ways in each event from the front runners of the district, but the girls are working hard to make up any time possible including better timing of the handoffs.”
The ReSporter: Are the girls where they need to be performance wise as they head to the tape? Read the rest here »

Softball | Comments Off on Updated (3/24): Softball & Baseball District 26-4A Standings

Head Soccer Coach Ryan Tierney
The ReSporter: Hey Coach could you give us what is next for this year’s soccer team?
Coach Tierney: “As far as the bracket we are still working out the details. Canyon Lake will get a first round bye and it looks like we will play the winner of the Bi-District game between the Third Place 25-4A district vs. the Second place in 26-4A District. From what I have seen and heard from other coaches, we will play the winners of Liberty Hill vs. Taylor.”
The ReSporter: How would you describe your overall picture of this year’s team?
Coach Tierney: “The over all picture of this team is Progress. We have consistently progressed in all aspects of our game. The passing, the defending, the understanding of team play and the implementation of physicality. We are in one of the toughest districts and regions in the state. We do not get a break from game to game and the playoffs are going to be the same. But because of our tough district, we have become a hardened team that is conditioned to play at a high level.” Read the rest here »

Gordon the Plumber Supports Hawk’s Baseball
Canyon Lake’s baseball team name has now been introduced in the definition for, futility, as the Hawks have now been shut-out 4 straight games, 2-0 in Cuero last Friday.
CL has a batting average of .106 during this streak as the Hawk pitchers had another game keeping Canyon Lake close enough for a win as their bats have grown cold.
The two pitchers that started those last two games were the only Hawks to have a hit in this game, Cody Powell with a double.

Game Article | Comments Off on Hawk’s Offense is Defining Futile in Loss to Cuero, 2-0

Lauren Mentzer comes on to relieve Alexis Robinson and gets her first district win.
Canyon Lake won another thriller this time over Cuero to draw their district record to even (2-2) at the conclusion of their second week of district competition, 7-6.
“I had a good feeling about this game,” Head Coach John Gallagher started. “They kept moving the game up until they decided on a 2pm start. “I also felt good with our 5-1 lead.”
“Being on the road and seeing a team we had not seen before, tells you how good our team stayed together even after those errors that helped tie the score, they did not fold.”
This time, the Hawks, called on Freshman Lauren Mentzer in the 5th inning and she did not give up a hit with her stint in the circle.
“Lauren (Mentzer) came on and did a good job,” Coach Gallagher said the obvious.
Mentzer only had one walk in her 3 innings which gave Canyon Lake something that you just can’t emphasize enough.

Cody Powell has hard luck loss after striking out 13 Panthers on Tuesday night
Canyon Lake lost a pitching duel on Tuesday night as Navarro scored their one run in the top of the first and made it stand as Senior Cody Powell finished with 13 strikeouts in this affair, 1-0.
The Hawks have now gone three games without a run and will need to dig deep to get out of their funk before the Friday game in Cuero.
“If we don’t score runs then we will not win,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant said staring into the infield. “We have to find some way to get them (runners) in and do something…a strikeout is the worst outcome in those situations and we just could not make it happen.”
Navarro’s Ripke matched Powell’s 13 strikeouts and threw 16 first pitch strikes being ahead in the count for most of the night.
“We struck out way too many times tonight,” Dunavant said.

Game Article | Comments Off on Canyon Lake Was One Run Short in Loss to Navarro, 1-0
Canyon Lake will need to take classes on what it takes to blow out a team as the Hawks once again played with danger, winning with the bases loaded over Navarro, 3-2.

Alexis Robinson has her arm iced down because of how hard she hit her home-run!!
“It was obviously a big motivator and it will help put us up mentally as we go into our game Friday,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “We had been in an uphill battle and we were just not finishing.”
Navarro scored one run in the second and third innings after the first batter led off with a walk, which resulted in pressure for CL as they would have to beat the Panthers Ace Cowan with very little being shown in those first three innings.
Kirsten Jones was the spark in that fourth inning as she had a perfect bunt single with one out to get things going. Jones extended her hitting streak to four games with the hit.
Alexis Robinson would be the Hawks next hitter and a 7 pitch battle ended with a shot over the left field fence where cars driving into the sports complex might have had a chance of reported seeing ‘softball’ size hail falling.
“I was expecting to hit the ball and just make contact,” Robinson said. “I wasn’t expecting a home run.”
