Hawks JV split their games with Gonzales, Monday night after a razor thin loss in the night cap, 3-2.
Runs galore in the first game (CLJV 14 Gonz 7) turned to finding runs anyway you could in the night cap and Gonzales finding one more run in the win.
Canyon Lake did use four pitchers in the night game as Coach Brandon Durst was quick with the trigger once a Hawk Pitcher found it rough going.
Avery Montgomery was, johnny on the spot, as his stint on the mound helped keep the game close when he entered with the bases loaded and no outs in the 3rd inning.
“I was hoping I could throw strikes and I got my confidence up and then started throwing as hard as I could,” Montgomery said with precision. “When I start a game I find it harder to fall into a rhythm than when I close a game.”

2012 Graduate Missy Romero
The ReSporter wants to give the All-Hawk Softball Team and then you can also see below, the Top Ten in Hawk Stats based on one season of play.
Hope you enjoy both articles.
Canyon Lake would be able to put a pretty ‘Salty’ group of young ladies on the field if you could bring players together while they were in their hay day while in school.
First on the list would be Missy Romero who not only was a good pitcher, but her bat and glove was certainly one of the bests in school history.
The ReSporter will put Missy as the player in the circle for this team as she finished her career with a 2.77 ERA and 641 strikeouts.

Hawks dominate in the Hurdles
Canyon Lake now has two athletes continuing into the Region Meet in Kingsville as Bailey Drum and Brandon Courtney punched their ticket in the hurdle events.
Drum placed with a 4th place finish in the 100 Meter Hurdles, while Courtney qualified with his personal best 300 Meter Hurdle run finishing with 39.68 time and a second place finish.
Region Meet will be run May 1-2 at Kingsville A&M on Friday and Saturday.
The other Hawk Athletes performed admirable as they finish out this track season.
In both 4×400 Meter Relay races, the Hawk’s Boys and Girls improved their time and the Girls had a Hawk Record when they passed by the finish line, 4:09.66 beating the 2013 Hawk Mile Relay team by almost a full second.

Senior’s Kelsey Ahrens and Lizzy Henderson taking in their last time as Hawk Softball players
Canyon Lake finished another year with a winning record but just short in district play as front runner La Vernia rushed out to a lead and held on, 9-5 on Senior night at the Hawk Diamond.
For Senior Night, both Lizzy Henderson and Kelsey Ahrens were honored as they finished their career in sports for Canyon Lake.
Ahrens took that honor one step further as she deposited a home run over the left field fence that also gave her the all time rbi stat finishing with 76 rbi’s on this night.
The Hawks had as many errors as hits, and those errors will give a team like La Vernia all they need to keep a lead and winning.
CL did have 5 unanswered runs during the 4th and 5th innings, to claw back to within 2 runs of the Bears before the Hawks ran out of innings and games on this beautiful night under the stars.

Track Season is in their phase of Playoffs, as the Hawk Boy’s and Girl’s Team will take the stage in the Area Track Meet featuring District 25-4A and 26-4A schools on Thursday.
The Hilltop ReSporter had an opportunity to talk to several of the students that will be competing and will share their thoughts going into this meet that will give them a chance to showcase their skills in Kingsville for the Region Meet.

Austin Camacho will be running 800 Meters for a chance to reach Regions
The ReSporter caught up with Austin Camacho first.
The ReSporter: Hey Austin, what are you trying to hit time wise on your first lap?
Austin Camacho: “You’ve got to think smart when running and I will have three coaches giving me times while I am running, but I would like to finishing the first lap with a 60 or 61 seconds, but the coaches are giving me times at the 100 and 200 marks and I like having a pace and time at those places.”

The ReSporter: What are your overall impressions for this group of athletes?

Track and Field Coach Troy Moses
Coach Moses: “Right now they are enthusiastic and working hard to improve. That has made it fun to coach.”
The ReSporter: You have to feel emboldened when you look at how young your team is and how stacked of an incoming group of young man enter into next year’s season.
Coach Moses: “We have a very good young group of athletes. There are good jumpers and runners and hurdlers, and that has the potential to be a very good track team in the upcoming years. But, at this point it’s only POTENTIAL!!!

Hawk Crawfish Boil Support Canyon Lake Track & Field
The ReSporter: Tell me how you see the future for this Girls team….I see a lot of good things coming from this group of ladies.
Coach Barthels: “We are a young team, we are only graduating a couple of seniors. 2 of the 3 relay teams consisted of 3 freshmen and a sophomore with pretty good JV times in those same events. We had a group of girls that worked hard in practice and competed on meet days with almost everyone improving on their times at each meet. At district we finished 2nd as a JV team with only 11 girls. Varsity girls set records in the 4X100, and the Long Jump. I see the future looking bright with a few girls already asking if they can run track this year. Obviously the more girls we can have come to track the better we can be.
The ReSporter: What did you take from the District Meet? Read the rest here »
