Senior Evan Schuller was high point for the Boys Track Team in Wimberley
Canyon Lake is now brushing up on this next couple of weeks as the Hawk Coaches will be mix and matching which events to compete in when District 26-4A Meet comes calling in April.
The Hawks had some athletes not in attendance in Wimberley as they will be competing in Austin for the Texas Relays instead of running in last night’s Meet.
Evan Schuller and Joe Marple were high scorers last night scoring 10.5 and 14 points respectfully. Schuller best was a 2nd place finish in the Triple Jump as he is still right at the doorstep of getting over the 40 foot mark.
Marple got 12 of his points with the hurdle runs and Gerrit Wilkins finished first on his 110 Hurdle Run.
On the Girls side, Bailey Drum was high point scoring 22 points with high finishes in the Triple Jump and Hurdle runs. Mariah Ellis was second getting 19 points for the Hawks.
Canyon Lake will be in Wimberley next Wednesday for a tune up meet before district.

Coaches Corner with Softball Coach John Gallagher

Head Softball Coach John Gallagher
The Canyon Lake Hawks find themselves in a crowded field as they prepare for another battle against La Vernia tonight and The ReSporter wanted a chance to see some of his thoughts about this season.
The ReSporter: As you look at this year’s district standings, have you ever seen a district that does not have any separation between the schools?
Coach Gallagher: “No I haven’t for quite a few years, this year everyone is very competitive.”
The ReSporter: What are some of the intricacies of a game do you look for in how you decide that a pitching change is warranted?
Coach Gallagher: “A pitchers control, number of walks given up, effectiveness of her pitches, and how well the other team is hitting the ball.”

Texas RV supports Canyon Lake Track & Field
The ReSporter has compiled times and distances from all of the District 26-4A schools and with those event in order of performance would give you a good idea of how this year’s meet might end in two weeks.
The top six will garner points and at the end of this line up you will see what each school would amass based on their performances up to this point.
You will see the name then the date that event was performed and then the actual time or distance for that individual.
Hope you enjoy and look hard for that person you would like to know where they stack up.
Go Hawks!!

Gordon the Plumber Supports Hawk’s Baseball
Canyon Lake finished their scoring drought with the 34th inning but that run was still not enough to stop Wimberley, losing 6-1 on Tuesday night.
The Hawks are still trying to find a remedy for their offensive woes as they will hopefully find lightning in a bottle when they face La Vernia this Friday.
“We have tried everything,” Head Baseball Coach Trent Dunavant said. “You can’t reinvent the wheel and we are not playing bad and we had some good pitching….they (Wimberley) did things a little better.”
No errors but Wimberley kept the pressure up and finally broke through from the fifth inning on, scoring 6 runs in those final three innings.
It is the little things that Canyon Lake just cannot get going at right times to help in run production.
“We can’t get a bunt when we need to move a player in a position to score,” Coach Dunavant continued. “This is all mental and not a mechanical thing…everybody (the players) knows what has been going on and they start to press when they go to bat.”

Canyon Lake has more than a week before they will go to battle in a new district and schools.
In the past, Fredericksburg has been that powerhouse that CL had to battle with and now Cuero and Wimberley looks to be the teams to beat.
The times and distances below reflect finishes by these athletes at many of their track meet venues.
Canyon Lake will have more as The ReSporter has also added the Hawk JV students so they can have an idea of where they stand for future events.
The standings below are based on a point system where first place gets 10, 8 points for second, 6 for third, 4 for fourth and 2 & 1 for the final points.
Those scores are as recent as March 23rd and are as up to date as possible. The ReSporter hopes you enjoy checking out your Hawks!!

We have had several emails requesting information about our upcoming Summer League Swimming Team. Here is some general information. If any of your friends, family or neighbors might be interested, please direct them to the website below:
The AquaHawks will swim in the Maverick Summer Swim League. This is a league for swimmers ages 5-18 years in San Antonio. The championship meet is held at the World Class Palo Alto College Natatorium in San Antonio. Some of our CLHS swimmers participated in this league a couple of years ago and had a great experience.
Anyone from the area is welcome to join the team. In fact, we have already had inquires from as far away as both San Marcos and Blanco.

The Hawks pointing to Tiare Kacir after getting the winning hit against Wimberley
The high drama was in action once again at the Hawk Softball Diamond, as Canyon Lake continued their suspenseful season winning in the 10th inning over Wimberley, 6-5.
CL was never in the lead in this game until it counted, the end of the third extra inning.
The bottom of the batting order did most of the damage on this night as Cameron Berger worked a one out walk in the 10th inning.
Berger has a little over 2 percent chance of walking as this free pass was a thing of beauty with that final result a win. It was Berger’s 4th walk in her career and 3rd one for this year in over 150 at bats.
Berger doesn’t like to walk, but would rather run, when she can be that winning score in extra innings.
Lizzy Henderson was next and had 2 hits already in this game but was called upon to sacrifice Berger over to second base which she did like a pro.
Now with Berger on second, it was time for Tiare Kacir to give Canyon Lake another district win with a sharp single (her second hit of the game) between second and first base to drive home the winning run on a 2 strike pitch and send the Texans home.

Softball | Comments Off on Hawk’s One Act Play Goes 10 Innings in Win over Wimberley

Triple Jumper Bailey Drum wants to go further.
The ReSporter: Is your team at full strength as you head to District play?
Coach Barthels: “Yes, we are at full strength with most of our girls having better times each week in the running events and better distances and heights on field events.”
The ReSporter: What event will be the strongest and why?
Coach Barthels: “At this point in time I would say that our hurdle events are the strongest right now with Bailey, Sydney and Abby all getting better as the year goes on. Our Sprint relay is running the fastest times ever at CLHS with the 4×200 relay on track to one of the best times ever. That being said, we are still a ways in each event from the front runners of the district, but the girls are working hard to make up any time possible including better timing of the handoffs.”
The ReSporter: Are the girls where they need to be performance wise as they head to the tape? Read the rest here »
