Canyon Lake’s JV beat Wimberley, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23 on Tuesday night to stay unbeaten in District 26-4A play.

Landry Hollums and Faith Hasness after win over Wimberley JV
A hoarse Head Coach Megan Helmey started, “My girls have been working on being mentally tough and you saw how well they carried that out….I have no complaints, Landry Hollums was going all over the place and really stepped up in that last set.”
“We were executing the ball and we knew that Wimberley was going to get the ball over with a game changer with a tip or what they had been doing,” Coach Helmey commented on what was happening in her conversation with the girls during their final time-out. “I am proud of the girls and how they handled it.
The crowd was totally into this game as both schools had a lot of support.
“I came from a 5A school and I had never seen a crowd like that,” Sophomore Kaylie Duke said. “This was awesome….I knew that all of the sports are so important for Canyon Lake and this was so important for our school and our Volleyball team came together.”
Freshman Faith Hasness had a six point serve which started with a 16-17 score in favor of Wimberley to a 22-17 advantage for the Hawks.
“We were talking a lot more and we were playing more consistent,” Hasness said. “That helped us have a good fight and it got us comfortable.”

The 20th ranked Canyon Lake Volleyball team could not stop an avalanche of Texans coming down the mountain as they were stampeded into submission to the #6 Ranked Wimberley team in Texas based on the Texas Girls Coaches Association Poll.

Hawks could not dig out of their hole in a loss to the Texans
This match was over after the first serve as Wimberley was leaving no question to who the #1 team in District 26-4A would be after this evening’s game.
A resounding three game sweep where the first two pivotal games CL was only able to score 14 and 13 points.
Wimberley did not allow Canyon Lake two points on serve but one time and that was way after this match had been decided in the third game while the Texans were holding a 22-14 edge.
Discombobulated would be a word to describe this Hawk team as they continued to slip on this night when the Hawk Gym was full of fans from both towns.

Lampasas 8th A squad thought that they would just fumble instead of punting in their game with Mountain Valley, as the Hawks finished off this Badger team, 32-6 last Thursday night.
Mountain Valley, still feeling the sting from a loss to Wimberley in their previous outing, would take no prisoners as they marched 62 yards on 7 plays when Jacob Ruff finished the first drive from three yards out.
“We weren’t quite ready from our conditioning (from last week’s Texans game),” Head Coach Brandon Pawelek said. “But we did have a better week of practice.”
“Thinking about that loss last week fueled our win today,” Jacob Ruff would surmise.
The Badgers first two drives were stopped by losing the ball via the fumble. Starting on their 24 yard line, the Badgers, marched off 24 yards with the help of a face mask penalty and then fumbled after a 10 yard gain that would have given Lampasas the ball on their 38 yard line with a new set of downs.

The Mountain Valley Hawks held off Lampasas 8th B squad last Thursday at CLHS.

Texas Country RV supports Canyon Lake and Mountain Valley Sports
It took Lampasas a little over four minutes to get on the board by driving 78 yards on 9 plays. What happened next would one reason a win for MV would be attained when this Badger team could not get their extra points by running which kept the score, 6-0.
Both defenses then started controlling the game when in that second quarter, MV would only have to cover 23 yards of real estate after holding the Badgers on a fourth down try.
Running Back Wyatt Meckel would break the goal line on a six yard run with five minutes left in the quarter.

District Recap:
Canyon Lake and Wimberley will battle it out this Tuesday in the Hawk Gym for what will give the winner the inside track for a District 26-4A title.

Y4 Custom Homes Sponsors CL Volleyball
Both teams come into the Tuesday’s game undefeated in district play with each team needing only one more game to complete the first round of district games which will end with Friday’s tilts.
A little Wimberley history will help put this game into perspective. This will not be Wimberley’s first rodeo.
The Texans have a 15 year streak of winning district titles. In fact, The ReSporter could only go back six years for records, but in those six years, Wimberley has yet to lose a district game.
Since 2009, the Texans have a 57-0 record in their district games. That would also tell you that Canyon Lake has never won a match with Wimberley.
One step further, CL has had one game where a game went past 25 points. The Hawks average score with Wimberley is 16 points with a few times having the Hawks not even reaching double figures in points scored.
One more tidbit, Coach Kim Paisley was on those teams which established this run of never losing.
What will it take for CL to start with a chance of seeing if their is enough room at the top for another team besides Wimberley?
Common opponents will give Wimberley the edge for this Tuesday night game, but that is why they play the games instead of having pundits like The ReSporter looking into a crystal ball for finding out who a winner would be.
A full gym needs to be a way of showing this Hawk team of your support. If a win is accomplished, then when you talk to your friends in the future, you can be truthful when you say, “I was there when Canyon Lake ended the Texan’s streak.
Both Sub-Varsity teams are also undefeated, so come early as both schools fight it out for District 26-4A supremacy
Cuero has been the most surprising team that has not lived up to pre/district records. The Gobblers are tied with Gonzales for last place needing to win two games this week to give them a chance of moving up for that fourth playoff spot.
Navarro will distance themselves from the other district teams with one game this week with hapless Gonzales. La Vernia, Yoakum, and Cuero will be seeing who can solidify that fourth playoff opportunity.
Come back to this Standings site as The ReSporter will update scores as games are played.
Go Hawks!!!!

Canyon Lake lost another heartbreaker, Friday at the Hawk Field, when the Lampasas Badgers

Texas Country RV supports Canyon Lake and Mountain Valley Sports
scored their go ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, winning 21-14.
Mistakes, in the form of fumbles, were the downfall while the Hawk Defense finally could not hold off the Slot-T offense of Lampasas.
“We need to learn how to win in the third and fourth quarter,” Head Coach Charley Drum said. “We just need to hold onto the football.”
The rain was constant and a contributor in keeping the Hawks from holding onto the ball for the rest of this game. This was the second game in as many weeks that has had over five fumbles, with a final tally of 13 miscues in those games.
Canyon Lake scored first when they drove 11 plays and 79 yards with a steady dose of ‘newcomer’ Tim Romero who was added to the Varsity when Hayden DuBois was held out to heal up for district play.

Coaches Corner with Volleyball’s Kim Paisley
The ReSporter: If you could play Kerrville Tivy again with the team you have right now, what would your result be? (Hawks were beaten by Tivy in their very first tournament in the championship game)

Coach Kim Paisley giving instructions on a serve with Mariah Ellis
Coach Paisley: “We definitely would play better defense at the net and our offense would execute more efficiently.”
The ReSporter: What has happened this year that has allowed this team to make such a turn around from last season?
Coach Paisley: “As soon as season ended last year, this group of girls set their own personal goals, (I had no prompting in this for them), to work hard in offseason, attend amazing meaningful camps, play club ball all spring, join summer league, and attend open gym/private lessons all summer!”

Hawks will try to hold Badgers for a win this Friday
Pre/Game: Lampasas Badgers @ CL Hawks Friday, March 26 7:30
History: First meeting between CL Hawks and Lampasas Badgers
This Season's Results:
CL Hawks 07 Blanco 35 Badgers 15 Fredericksburg 22
CL Hawks 43 Smithville 14 Badgers 24 Lago Vista 17
CL Hawks 38 Marion 06 Badgers 46 Austin Reagan 07
CL Hawks 27 Wimberley 28 Badgers 20 Lorena 18
Canyon Lake will play a Lampasas team that is presently on a three game winning streak while the Hawks are coming off a last second loss to Wimberley.
That main question will be what the mind set of Canyon Lake will be versus a team that seems to be beating teams by wide margins (46-7 over Reagan) and by the skin of their Badger teeth in winning 20-18 over Lorena last week.
In fact, in Lampasas only loss against Fredericksburg, the Badgers tripled the yardage of the Billies in that loss.

Pre/Game | Comments Off on Pre/Game: Lampasas @ CL Hawks September 26

Come and celebrate a Hawk victory at North Shore UMC after the game.
Friday night lights doesn’t just end after the game.
North Shore United Methodist Church opens their doors for food, fun and fellowship after each home game.
Beach Volleyball, Basketball, Gaga Pit, music and oceans of tables under the trees to sit and visit.

Coach Chapman might want to come to see if anybody has ‘game’.
North Shore is excited to have the Baptist Youth Fellowship, DJ and hope to see this become an ecumenical (more than one Church) event.
Our Youth are very limited as to where they can hang out and we want North Shore UMC to be a safe fun place to do just that.
Grace and Peace,
Rev. Kimberley L. Burke

Beach Volleyball, you need to check to be sure there are not any ‘ringers’ on your team. Like the CL Hawk’s Volleyball girls.
