Canyon Lake Junior Varsity lost to Fredericksburg in a hard fought and windy affair on

Third-Baseman Peyton Tyra
Tuesday night at the Hawk Diamond.
The Hawks were in the lead 8-7 going into the third inning but could only muster one more run for a two run loss.
There was a lot of good fielding and in those first two innings as well as some manufactured runs when both teams settled down for just one run in their last inning of play.
Christine Rider was just getting into her stride needing only six pitches to retire the Billies in their last at bat.
Daniellia Bustamante also helped with her speed scoring two runs after two walks.
Brianna Hemphill pitched in with two hits, runs, and rbi.
Both Hemphill and Bustamante also get some time with the Varstiy.
When asked what goes on when you are playing on two rosters, Bustamante said, “It is hectic but I enjoy it….anyway I can help the team.”
“The Junior Varsity just want to get better and work together more,” Bustamante closed. “This was one of our best games so far this year.”
Third baseban Peyton Tyra also played solid defense helping keep the damage low in this loss.
“We are trying to get better as a team and of course win,” Third Baseman Tyra said.
Tyra had not played the last couple of years and is new to CL and decided to pick a glove back up this season.
“I just wanted to play again,” Tyra deduced. “A lot of us are new and we just want to help each other.”
Canyon Lake is only in their second year of fielding a Junior Varsity and seeing these young athletes hone in on their skills will only enhance a program that is showing signs of becoming a team to be reckoned with.
Tough loss but the positives could be seen and having more opportunities to get playing time this Hawk team.

Daniellia Bustamante holding down two jobs playing JV and Varsity
The Hawks started their District 27-3A season on a losing note, when the Fredericksburg Billies jumped on the Hawks and did not let go until they had won going away, 12-5.
“We just did not focus on the game at hand,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “We looked flat and played flat.”
Canyon Lake has youth with very few seniors and juniors in a daily lineup for the Hawks.
When asked what will need to happen to get through this district season.
“We will have to break everything down again and start over,” Coach Gallagher offered. “We did not show that we were as good as we thought we were.”
Granted this was just the first game of this district campaign and there will be many more games to make some statements throughout this year.
Two freshman players did have decent game.
Short Stop Kat Weber reached base all three times she was at the plate with two hits and a walk.
Weber has been very adept in reaching base this season with several walks and tonight those two hits.
Freshman centerfielder Carly DuBois also reached base with two hits and two runs.
Sophomore Cameron Berger pich-hit for Sophomore Tiare Kacir and responded with a two run double in the final inning.
The ReSporter wanted to give that casual reader an idea of how young this team actually is and seeing that this was the first district game for these athletes and knowing that better times will certainly come.
Hopefully this Friday when Canyon Lake travels to Bandera for a game with the Bulldogs.

Christian Dittman is making his mark in Track and Field
This Week @ Canyon Lake
After an abbreviated week of sports due to Spring Break, Canyon Lake will start back with abandon this week as all the spring sports start in earnest while those winter/spring sports (Soccer) are at the finish line.
The ReSporter is finding it hard to get Soccer scores to report on and can assume that the game with Wimberley last week had a major impact on the playoffs.
The ReSporter has other issues with a recent trip to Colorado, the computer that has all schedules and everything that involves numbers will not be returned until Monday.
So, This Week @ Canyon Lake will not have some sports schedules recorded until after the Computer makes it back home.

The CL Hawks tripled their pleasure on Saturday as their 7 games in two days came to a

Kelsey Ahrens and Alexis Robinson after their win over El Paso Socorro
close at the San Marcos Softball Tournament.
Canyon Lake finished non-district play with a healthy dose of games as they ready for their opening game this coming Tuesday at home against the Fredericksburg Billies.
In the Hawks game with Socorro, CL had 4 triples, scored three runs in three of their innings, and won the third game of this tournament.
The Hawks deviated from their lineup in this game and reaped some benefits when Alexis Robinson responded with three rbi with her two triples while batting third and not lead off.

Canyon Lake takes Wimberley, in an errorfest game on Friday night at the Hawk
diamond, 7-6.
The Hawks had self inflicted adversity with 8 errors in this game and still found a way to win.
Go back these last couple of years and you can’t count the number of times this type of game would of been a loss. The ReSporter’s guess? A-lot!
“You can’t give a team so many extra at bats,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant sad errorlessly. “But it was time we got a chance to steal a game….they (Canyon Lake) could of sulked and started blaming each other, but they kept themselves up and battled through those mistakes.”
Canyon Lake had the lead for most of the game and this time the most important part of a game, that last inning.

The Hawks did start their day on a good note when they jumped into a strong first inning with Houston St. Agnes winning 7-2.
This tournament’s games had a time limit of 50 minutes and going more than three innings would be a stretch.

Canyon Lake lost a frustrating game to Fredericksburg to open District 27-3A play at the Hawk diamond

Junior Nick Cahill
Wednesday night, 7-4.
Frustrating is the best word to describe this outcome as Fredericksburg turned into an opportunistic team to scratch across enough runs to get separation on the Hawks.
“We did not make plays we needed to make,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant started. “Those little plays were made big plays and we did not keep our foot on the gas on offense.”
Cody Powell was throwing a gem going into the fifth inning when an error on a bunt spelled doom and eventually four runs for the Billies.

How it all began…
The Hawkscrawfish.com Boil began in 2006 when Cory/Robin Martelli, Deron/Sharon Lestourgeon, Trent Christian, Jemmie/Nicole Rowe, Lori/ Mike Jarrell and Nancy Hartman, suggested a way for friends and relatives to gather for a day of fun and to enjoy a . As the Craw Fish Boil grew, it was decided to ask for donations and to donate the profits to the Canyon Lake Football and Cheer ( CLHYFC) since that organization needed a fundraiser.
Over the years, interest continued to grow, more friends joined in the fun and Crawfish, and a committee was formed to help guide the profitable efforts of the Crawfish Boil. The all-volunteer group has continued to put on this event on every year. Since CLHYFC had attained a regular fundraiser, it was decided that in 2011 the donations gathered would go to MVMS and CLHSABC from this date forward on a 50/50 basis. The Hawscrafishboil.com and along with the CISD and the community, began growing this event to what it is today. To date Hawkscrawfishboil.com has donated over $8500.00 to the youth in the community. Many, many thanks to the volunteers, sponsors, players, and friends and family that come together to make each Crawfishboil a memorable and truly charitable event.
