Canyon Lake’s Softball Team had a chance to play a game against the Lady Hawk’s from days gone by as the the Alumni game was enjoyed by all on a Saturday with food and honoring two former students.

This was a Saturday game that allowed the Softball and Canyon Lake High School a chance to pay respects for two recent events.

The loss of Heather St. John to cancer last August 15, 2016 and Megan Browning who lost her life in a car accident this past January 15, 2017.

Both of these young ladies had played Softball as well as other sports during their time at Canyon Lake.

Megan Browning and Heather St. John were both teammates during Canyon Lake’s playoff run in 2011 and many of these alumnus ladies knew and played with Browning and St. John while in high school.

CL Hawks Can’t Slow Down Greyhounds in Loss, 11-0

Sunday, March 19th, 2017

Hawks start District 28-4A with Loss to Boerne.             (mjrphotog.com)

The CL Hawks started their district playing a perennial powerhouse in Boerne and the Greyhounds played like one on Friday night as they got on their Greyhound for home after winning, 11-0.

Canyon Lake were put in molasses early as the Greyhounds were off and running in the first inning and never stopped with their two home-runs that ended up being enough to close up shop for another day.

“We are going to stay with our process and eventually it will get here,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant stated. “We will work on our fundamentals until we are blue in our face.”

CL Hawks Soccer Come out Flat in Loss to the Billies in Loss, 6-1

Sunday, March 19th, 2017

Canyon Lake Boys Soccer ended their regular season much like they started after a blowout loss to Fredericksburg, 6-1 last Friday.

The Hawks had a total of two games that was lost by more than 2 goals and it was the opening and closing nights for their regular season production.

Canyon Lake was not shut-out for this season as the Billies were on a 3 game shut-out streak that was stopped at the 31:38 mark when Grayson Rohrbacher scored the first goal in the contest.

Unfortunately for CL the offense would be a no-show for the rest of this battle and now the Hawks will try to repeat what they did last time they had a loss by more than 1 goal.

Lady Hawk’s Track Team is on the Move

Friday, March 17th, 2017

Madison Blackburn starts her track season with 22 points in Bandera

The Lady Hawks Track Team have started to make their move as the team goes into those final meets before District 28-4A comes calling in April.

There will be two more meets and the next one will be in Wimberley and this venue should be close enough for the Hawk Nation to rally behind these students and encourage them during their events.

The Hawks had their best finish at the Bandera Meet before Spring Break and continuing with those type of results will be important during the next few weeks.

Junior Varsity finished first at Bandera and has had some high finishes in each meet this season.

CL’s Lady Tracksters need more students in order to make a bigger splash as you can deduce that many of the athletes scoring points are coming from the lower grade levels.

Boys Track & Field Look to finish Season Strong

Thursday, March 16th, 2017

Sr. Heath McDonough is ready for a strong track season.

The ReSporter has done some homework during this Spring Break time period to help those of you that are missing some sporting events during this ‘Break’ period.

There has been 4 track meets so far and The ReSporter has added the points that each athlete has totaled thus far during their season.

Some of the meets had less points scored simply based on the number of schools that were at those venues and another point silencer are those schools that are larger than Canyon Lake and with the number of students of those schools have participating can shut-out scoring too.

Depth for schools like a Fredericksburg is the best way for schools in track & field to dominate meets.

Track & Field is a sport that is a team sports based on the individual participants. There is not a bench and your team can have up to 3 athletes in events to score points by placing in the top six.

Hawks Finish Tourney on an Upbeat, Beat Jourdanton, 3-0

Canyon Lake showed signs of life after blanking Jourdanton in their last tournament game in Somerset, 3-0.

“We played two games real well,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant surmised. “In our loss to Somerset our pitching did not have a walk and everything they (Somerset) got they earned.”

CL had a stellar performance from the mound in the second game that has given that glimmer of hope that this season has a chance of pulling out better than their record indicates.

“Our team is not set up for having success in a tournament format,” Coach Dunavant said. “You play a lot of games in a few days and we do not have the depth on defense or on the mound….if we bring in a player in the field to pitch then we just had one of our best fielders switched and having a different player in that vacated spot will cause mistakes because of not being used to that position.”

CL Hawks Softball: District 28-4A is Next

Sunday, March 12th, 2017

Marley Carrizales readies for district play next.

Canyon Lake’s Softball team fizzled out in their last tournament, played in San Marcos, as their first day of competition was their last day of play.

Those first round games were allotted a 55 minute time limit which had those contests being decided on some occasions with players in the line-up having just one trip to the plate.

The result of those contests will not be wins or losses since there would not be enough innings to qualify for an official game.

Case and point was Canyon Lake’s win over Fredericksburg. A win but not really as both teams were only a run apart when time was called and the Hawks coming to the plate in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

It would remind you of having your hair washed and then the hair stylist sending you outside because too much time elapsed. Not a pretty sight to say the least.

CL Boy’s Soccer Continues Climb after Win over Bandera, 2-0

Canyon Lake’s Boys Soccer look to finish strong after beating Bandera, 2-0 on Friday night.

The Hawks will now take a week off and welcome Fredericksburg to the Hawk Nest this coming Friday for a chance to reverse an earlier one goal loss to the Billies.

CL has not been in this stratosphere ever and now will see what weightlessness might feel like with a win over the Billies.

Take in a 14-5-2 overall record and now with a very respectable 3-2-2 district number going into this last game.

Grayson Rohrbacher was on his game again, scoring 2 goals while the Hawks defense only allowed two shots on goal with Brayden Damico taking care of those shots for the shut out.

                     Go Hawks
