CL Hawks Win Consolation Bracket in Marion Tourney

Saturday, December 6th, 2014

Canyon Lake won their last game with Lytle as the Hawks broke even in their Marion Tournament set of games, finishing 2-2.

The Hawks need to bottle whatever they are doing in that first quarter as those two middle stanza’s are just not adding up.

Canyon Lake shot a dismal 17% in their two games on Saturday during the third quarter resulting with 10 points total for those two games.

In the game with Lytle, big man Sean Nolan was a rock of Gibralter with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Add on another three blocks and CL put their team on this man’s broad shoulders to finish off these Pirates.

Tommy Clark finished with 10 points in the first game with Marion as he was the only player that could scare that double figure points mark in basketball lore.

Nolan and Clark both had 7 block shots in their first game as the Hawk team finished with 9 rejected shots total.

Sophomore Rory Preiss had the most impressive rejection as he had just committed a turnover and raced back down the court to swat the shot by the Bulldog into the wall.

Hawks Split Games Friday in Marion Tourney

Saturday, December 6th, 2014

Canyon Lake split their two games in the Marion Tournament on Friday as they will look for two wins on Saturday, after manhandling St. Girard in their opening match, 79-34.

The Hawks had three players finish in double digit scoring as the team shot lights out in this contest.

Brandon Ward led all scorers with 14 while Trendon Martinez finished one point less (13) and Tommy Clark had 10 points.

Every player scored in the game as CL scored 79 points in a win over Jourdanton four years ago. Canyon Lake scored 81 points in their game with Ingram Moore the year before that game which stands as most ever for the program.

All phases of this game was clicking as CL Hawks shot 60% from the field and 53% from beyond the three point arc.

CL Hawks Still Finding way on Court in Loss to Somerset

Thursday, December 4th, 2014

Canyon Lake will be having a ‘get to know you’ party soon as their season is getting going with many players just now arriving for play time.

That issue played a big part in their loss to Somerset last Tuesday night.

“It will take us a while to get everyone in sync,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman said. “The issue right now is we are going to play a lot of games without much practice time, so that will affect us even more. We don’t really have a whole lot of stuff in place on the offensive end.”

Some players have just arrived from playing football and others have returned from being injured and the result is having a team in their first week or two to three weeks behind other teams.

Nic Adams was the only Hawk to make double figures in scoring finishing with 10 against this Bulldog team.

Hawk Varsity and JV Lose and Win in games with Llano

Wednesday, November 26th, 2014

Canyon Lake got going two quarters too late in their loss to Llano on Tuesday night at the Hawk gym as Llano jumped out to a 35-20 halftime lead and CL could not close the gap to get back into this game against the Yellowjackets.

Senior Nic Adams Scores 24 in game with Llano

“We gave them too much space,” Head Coach Luke Chapman said. “Llano did a good job of speeding up the game with their press and we have to do a better job of getting a better defense against them.”

Nic Adams and Sean Nolan both ended with double figure point totals but CL’s 33% shooting accuracy was not a good indication of good things for the Hawks in this contest.

Adams finished with 24 points and putting that number into perspective. Adams had 26 points last season for the entire year.

“We need to work on getting stops on defense,” Adams said. “Their ball movement got them the lead, but we need to contest more shots.”

“This wasn’t a bad game as we had improved on what we were working on against the press,” Adams continued.”

Nolan was his usual self by controlling the inside and being perfect from the floor with his three shots.

CL Hawks Freshman Team Sting the Llano Yellowjackets, 50-46

Tuesday, November 25th, 2014

Canyon Lake’s Freshman team held off the Llano Yellowjackets after running out to a six point lead in the first half and won with defense and clutch free throw shooting, 50-46, last Tuesday night before the Thanksgiving break.

“They are all new to me,” Head Freshman Coach Javier Almanza said. “I am trying to get used to them and them with me…they are learning to speed of the game.”

“They started pretty well and handling the press,” Coach Almanza continued. “But then we settled down and we had to get back to what we were doing (earlier in the game).”

Llano got their first lead, 35-33 at the two minute mark of the third period as these Yellowjackets were stinging mad coming out of their halftime break.

The lead got as much as six points, 40-34 as Canyon Lake was stuck on that 26 point level until Joseph Boyd was able to sink two free throws to finally get the second half going.

“This was our first home game and Coach said that we were rushing and taking bad shots,” Boyd said astutely.

On how this team was doing compared to last season at Mountain Valley, “Not much has changed,” Boyd said. “We still staying about the same as last year, but communication is sometimes a problem and today we did pretty good.”

The ReSporter shares Stats from this Past School Year

The Reporter would like to thank all the many readers that have frequented this website this past year.

The ReSporter would like you to Vault into next year by placing an Ad on this site.

The ReSporter would like you to Vault into next year by placing an Ad on this site.

This has been a very successful year for the website as each month this season had more visits than any previous month since we started four years ago.

The ReSporter had 315 articles this past school year and since starting this quest, The ReSporter, has finished a total of 1,159 posts or articles.

Another way of saying, a lot of stories.

Now it is time for The ReSporter to take a few months off and hopefully come back with enough energy to get another year finished.

Our apologies for these past couple of weeks, The ReSporter, has suffered ‘Burn Out’ much like many of the Seniors have suffered from Senioritis.

With that being said, The ReSporter would like to invite you to think about helping with posting an Ad through this venue.

Since, The ReSporter, likes numbers then chew and calculate how these stats might help your business.

School Year starting August 1 through May 28
Year Visits Pageviews Ave Time Top 3 Cities in Visits

The * for 2010-11 represents just three months as this endeavor started after the basketball season that year, so those numbers will not have the same amount of days you could visit.

This also shows how each year has topped each previous season which should hopefully give you an idea of what might happen this coming school year.

SA and NB for the cities represent San Antonio and New Braunfels. Austin and San Marcos were right behind those two cities giving you an idea of how far this site can reach what you might be needing to sell or get across to your audience.

Thanks once again for showing support for this site and know that an Ad would cost $50 per semester and an extra $35 if you would like to have your Ad placed with articles, which many of you have noticed we started doing this past spring.

The ReSporter would also welcome ideas and thoughts that you might like to see for this upcoming school year.

Be Blessed and enjoy the Summer and tell my Advertisers you saw their Ad on my site…and Congrats to all the Seniors from Bracken and Canyon Lake. You don’t know how much I have enjoyed covering your events these past 4 years.

Canyon Lake had three players that certainly made their mark for all time players for the Hawks with this announcement.

Riali name is found on top of the heap in points (594), three point shots made (122), and total rebounds finishing with 296.

Riali’s (113) also finished second in made free throws trailing only Matt Magness who is still on top with 120 for his career.

Biding His Time

Tanner McGill has been seen throughout this school year and with little to show for his presence.

Sophomore Tanner McGill

Sophomore Tanner McGill

McGill was a transfer this year and yet his paperwork with the UIL has taken until now for getting clearance to play Varsity sports.

“Finally,” McGill said. “I’m happy it is finally over but sad that it took this long…but the wait was worth it. Now I can start work and try to help the baseball team.”

McGill has a Sophomore classification, but in football he would of been the back up quarterback until he was relegated to Junior Varsity this past season.

CL Boy’s Basketball Lose Final Game to Bandera, 67-48

Isaac Mendez has one of his best games in final contest against Bandera

Canyon Lake ends season on a losing note as the Hawks said good-bye to four Seniors who played their last game.

Bandera finished off the Hawks, 67-48, as CL once again started the game in a whole as the Bulldogs finished that first quarter in the lead, 18-7.

Isaac Mendez did have one of his best games of the season on this night as he was the only Hawk in double figure scoring finishing with 12 points and also chipped in with 9 rebounds which also led the Canyon Lake effort.

Canyon Lake did finish the season as the all time leading Hawk team with steals, rebounds, and blocks per game.

Those numbers still did not translate into victories as CL finished the season without a district win.

Conversely Canyon Lake also finished this season as the worst team for defense, assists, and turnovers was only 3 away from leading in that category (2009 team had 3 more turnovers).

The Hawk Seniors did make their presence known for their last game: Andrew Riali, Tyler Clark, Isaac Mendez, Javier Mendez, and Luke Curry.

Player Quotes:
On what you think about last game and what wisdom for younger players:
Senior Isaac Mendez: “This went by quick….you can’t take days off and I hope for a different season than what we did.”
Senior Javier Mendez: “The season ending kind of stinks….the players got to understand the harder you work, the better you get.”
Senior Andrew Riali: “It is hard to say good-bye….this year all I wanted to do is concentrate on basketball. The players have to practice three times harder and work on what you are worse at doing. Work over the
Summer as much as you can on dribbling skills, finishing, and free throws.”
Senior Luke Curry: “We were building blocks for future teams.”
Junior Garrett Winters: “Ultimately, I would like to win some basketball games next year. We need to reduce our turnovers and just take care of the ball.”

The ReSporter will have final stats for the year and all-time stats tomorrow.
