It was a bad news/good news story on Friday night for Canyon Lake’s Freshman team in their game with Bandera.
Bad News: The Hawks came out and needed some plumbing done on their side of the basket when they shot just 14 percent from the field in that first quarter.
Good News: Lucky for Canyon Lake, Gordon The Plumber was watching his son at his baseball practice on campus. During the First Quarter Break, Gordon was able to clear the basket and make it larger than the ball, giving CL a better chance for producing points.
More Good News: After that dismal start, your Hawks had the lead by five points, 10-5. Thanks to some good free throw shooting from Brandon Ward.
More and More Good News: For the remainder of this contest, the Hawks shot a salty 55 percent and were never threatened by this Bulldog club.
Just put Good News in front of each of these next points and you will have an idea of how dominating Canyon Lake was in training a Bulldog.
Next on the docket, your Hawks took the Bull from the dogs and applied it to Robert ‘Bull’ Woods as he proceeded to shoot lights out in this battle.
During the first quarter Woods did not have one shot. All of his shots were recorded in those last three stanzas.
‘Bull’ Woods was 11 for 14 from the field as he took over the lane and had his way with whatever puppy dog came into his kennel.
“We knew Bandera would be playing a 1/3/1 defense and so we were just going to feed the big guys,” Head Coach John Barthels said. “It was a good thing we got our bad quarter out of the way.”
