The ReSporter: Canyon Lake beat Fredericksburg 3-1 on Tuesday and Head Coach Kim Paisley was kind enough to offer some answers for the game and season.

The ReSporter: Did not see Addison Farley on any of the leader lines, did she play or are you having a reduced roll for her?

Coach Paisley: “She did play and played the whole match. I guess the way the game played out, she wasn’t able to execute with the bigger girls she had across the net. His lineup couldn’t sustain both Bailey and Addison so one of them were not going to get the same look on offense. He had to pick one to try and stop. Also the rotation we had when we were serving and keeping them out of system, fell on Bailey front row and Addison back row. Addison had some great digs last night.”

The ReSporter: Could the players see a difference in facing Fred vs. those teams faced last week in San Antonio? (more…)

The ReSporter will be having a weekly Coaches Corner with Coach Stredic this season as this will be an interesting time getting to know the ‘New’ Head Coach of BCS…hope you enjoy the talks.

The ReSporter: Coach Stredic, tell us how many years you have been coaching and where you were stationed.

Coach Stredic: “I have been coaching for 20 years now and the whole time I have been in El Paso….Faith Christian from 1994 to 1997, I coached at Jesus Chapel and then on to Bethel Christian till 2011. I went back to Faith Christian and that is where I was coaching when I took the Bracken position.”

The ReSporter: Have you had this type of experience when you start at a school with a team this young? (more…)

The ReSporter will be having a weekly Coaches Corner with Coach Drum this season and hopes that this will be an informative time in understanding that week’s game and other information.

The ReSporter: Hey Coach, thanks for spending time with me and I have questions for your upcoming game….you have heard how much a team will improve from the first game to the second game in a season. Can you also say that your improvement is measurable from the last scrimmage to the first game?

Coach Drum: “Actually, this is different because a scrimmage has the coaches out on the field and we cannot be on the field during a game. A scrimmage is also a controlled game with so many plays for offense and defense. Even the half we played live has a running clock, so there are too many variables between a scrimmage and game situations.”

The ReSporter: So, that would be hard to compare in those situations… (more…)

The ReSporter: How has your off-season conditioning and workout been going?

Coach Paisley: “Offseason is great! The girls have been touching a ball, lifting weights, conditioning and improving skills at an individual and team level. We are about to begin the San Marcos Summer League for the month of June.” (Tuesday nights)

The ReSporer: What is the main item you look for as you put this ‘new’ edition on the court for this upcoming season?

Coach Paisley: “The main item for this upcoming season is raising the level of intensity. I am looking for players who are driven, passionate, communicates, and flat out gets after it!” (more…)

The ReSporter: What are your overall impressions for this group of athletes?

Track and Field Coach Troy Moses

Coach Moses: “Right now they are enthusiastic and working hard to improve. That has made it fun to coach.”

The ReSporter: You have to feel emboldened when you look at how young your team is and how stacked of an incoming group of young man enter into next year’s season.
Coach Moses: “We have a very good young group of athletes. There are good jumpers and runners and hurdlers, and that has the potential to be a very good track team in the upcoming years. But, at this point it’s only POTENTIAL!!!

The ReSporter: Tell me how you see the future for this Girls team….I see a lot of good things coming from this group of ladies.
Coach Barthels: “We are a young team, we are only graduating a couple of seniors. 2 of the 3 relay teams consisted of 3 freshmen and a sophomore with pretty good JV times in those same events. We had a group of girls that worked hard in practice and competed on meet days with almost everyone improving on their times at each meet. At district we finished 2nd as a JV team with only 11 girls. Varsity girls set records in the 4X100, and the Long Jump. I see the future looking bright with a few girls already asking if they can run track this year. Obviously the more girls we can have come to track the better we can be.

The Canyon Lake Hawks find themselves in a crowded field as they prepare for another battle against La Vernia tonight and The ReSporter wanted a chance to see some of his thoughts about this season.

The ReSporter: As you look at this year’s district standings, have you ever seen a district that does not have any separation between the schools?

Coach Gallagher: “No I haven’t for quite a few years,  this year everyone is very competitive.”

The ReSporter: What are some of the intricacies of a game do you look for in how you decide that a pitching change is warranted?

Coach Gallagher: “A pitchers control, number of walks given up, effectiveness of her pitches, and how well the other team is hitting the ball.”

The ReSporter: Is your team at full strength as you head to District play?

Coach Barthels: “Yes, we are at full strength with most of our girls having better times each week in the running events and better distances and heights on field events.”

The ReSporter: What event will be the strongest and why?

Coach Barthels: “At this point in time I would say that our hurdle events are the strongest right now with Bailey, Sydney and Abby all getting better as the year goes on. Our Sprint relay is running the fastest times ever at CLHS with the 4×200 relay on track to one of the best times ever. That being said, we are still a ways in each event from the front runners of the district, but the girls are working hard to make up any time possible including better timing of the handoffs.”

The ReSporter: Are the girls where they need to be performance wise as they head to the tape? (more…)

The ReSporter: Hey Coach could you give us what is next for this year’s soccer team?

Coach Tierney: “As far as the bracket we are still working out the details.  Canyon Lake will get a first round bye and it looks like we will play the winner of the Bi-District game between the Third Place 25-4A district vs. the Second place in 26-4A District.  From what I have seen and heard from other coaches, we will play the winners of Liberty Hill vs. Taylor.”

The ReSporter: How would you describe your overall picture of this year’s team?

Coach Tierney: “The over all picture of this team is Progress.  We have consistently progressed in all aspects of our game.  The passing, the defending, the understanding of team play and the implementation of physicality. We are in one of the toughest districts and regions in the state.  We do not get a break from game to game and the playoffs are going to be the same.  But because of our tough district, we have become a hardened team that is conditioned to play at a high level.” (more…)

Bad news is that no matter what the weather is doing the district schedule will be here, ready or not.

“We are still working out and hitting in the cages and other than not practicing after school today and we are staying active,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “You can’t simulate a live game and that is what we need. I have scheduled a game for us on Friday so that will give us some needed work before we start district next Tuesday.”
