The ReSporter: Hey Coach, how has this week’s practices been going?

Coach Fields: “Very well this week, this week has been very intense, they have had focus, and they are ready to play the game.”

The ReSporter: What do you concentrate on this time of the season in your practices?

Coach Fields: “We try to eliminate our mental mistakes.”

The ReSporter: What does that mean….give us some examples of mental mistakes.

Coach Fields: “Missed blocking assignments and working on tackling and getting in position to have better angles. We still have not played our best game of the year.”

The ReSporter: What has been your best game so far this season?

several Seniors from last year’s team.

The ReSporter: Hey Coach Gallagher, how are things looking as you start practices?

Coach MaryBeth Gallagher: “We have had the Volleyball girls for only two practices so we are still working those girls in. But we are in our third week of practice and overall this year will mainly be learning the game on a deeper level because of our young players.”

The ReSporter: What do you feel will be your identity?

Coach Gallagher: “We will impress teams with our defense…that will keep us in the games. Our goal is to continue to teach defense as a team and hard nose and get after them defense.”

The ReSporter: How has your offense been developing?

Coach Gallagher: “We lost a lot of our scorers and will need to teach the offensive side and try to use our speed. We have a lot more speed than we have had in the past and we have some height and some good guards.”

The ReSporter: So, how has your week of practices been going?

Coach Fields: “We have had a good week of practices. This cooler weather has perked our players up.

This has been our concentrated best practices all year.”

The ReSporter: What is the status on your players? Coy Zunker and Gunnar Stolhandske in particular…

The ReSporter: Hey Coach Fields, what are your thoughts as you go into your game with

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

CASA this week?

Coach Fields: “We have a costly injury with Coy Zunker going down…we will need to see how Daniel Forgione will do at his position on defense and a work by committee.”

The ReSporter: What else will you do defensively now?

Coach Fields: “We will start Forgione, but he also plays offense and so we will bring Noah Boriack from offense to defense too.”

The ReSporter: Will there be a domino effect?

Coach Fields: “Yes, (Preston) Koch will and other players will be playing more on both sides of the line. The weather is cooler and we won’t have to worry about players getting as tired on the field. Boriack and Koch are two of our best defensive players but we have not had them play much on the defensive side because we were saving them for offense. Mason Anthony will be another player that will fill more roles.”

“Preston (Koch) is our only player that started on that State Championship game and now he is a senior playing his last four regular season games.”

The ReSporter: What do you expect this week?

Coach Fields: “In a perfect world both players (Koch and Boriack) are starters on defense and that should help us as this season goes on.

The ReSporter: Tell us about Casa offense.

Coach Fields: “Casa has a new head coach and they are a lot better coached…this team is quicker and they have a player that is very quick and this player will make you miss him in the open field.

They also have a fullback that is their go to receiver and so we will have to stop both of these guys to be in good shape, if we don’t then it could be a long night.”

The ReSporter: What about defensively.

Coach Fields: “They basically have five guys that will go both ways and those same two players on offense will be the same players we will need to watch on defense.”

The ReSporter: How do you progress after the loss last week?

Coach Fields: “We got beat after our first game this year and then rebounded with a four game winning streak and now we will need to go four in a row again. This is Homecoming game and this is probably the best Casa team we have faced since the 2008 year…Casa is big up front.”

The ReSporter: Final thoughts for this week?

Coach Fields: “The weather has not been cooperative this week and we have had some good practices this week.

We have everybody playing well and have that one injury to deal with and now just four more weeks to go and the weather finally has us into football season. We will have another tough game with OLH upcoming and we just have to take care of business to end this year.”

The ReSporter: Thanks Coach and we will come visit you at your Casa after the Casa game.

midway through September?

Coach Paisley: “We have made improvements since August 5th. I feel some of us have come out of our shell and are ready to step it up.”

The ReSporter: What are some of the things you are still working on to get this team ready for district play?

Coach Paisley: “We have been working on our offense as far as attacks and getting comfortable doing those in a match. I have also been putting in game scenarios on the scoreboard and having them work on that mental aspect of “We are down by two and the score is 20-22 them…” Then they have to learn to battle back.”

The ReSporter: Hey Coach what are you thinking with this week’s game?

Coach Fields: “This will be a game that will come down to two or three key plays and either we will make them or they will make them.”

The ReSporter: That sounds like you feel both teams are pretty even.

Coach Fields: “We are a lot alike and this week’s game will tell us how we are going to come out this season. We are at a cross roads of our season and our kids are really focused.”

The ReSporter: You said the kids are focused, what are they focused on?

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

Coach Fields: “Our kids will play well this week. They have made tremendous strides and we just need to stay away from injuries.”

“We were 45 point favorites on our opening night’s game that we lost and so we are not taking any opponent lightly.”

The ReSporter: What type of offense and defense does Prairie Lea play?

Coach Fields: “They will play a 2/3 defense and a base/spread offense or J-Bird.”

The ReSporter: I can see that The ReSporter might have done more bad with that question than good.

Let’s try again, what are you hoping to do in this week’s game?

Coach Mary Beth Gallagher

Coach Mary Beth Gallagher

based on your competition, how did our team do compared to other schools your size?

Coach Mary Beth Gallagher: “Well there were not very many schools with our size at this meet. We finished in the middle of the pack on boys varsity and the girls, well about the same as always, the bottom 1/3.”

The ReSporter: Was there someone that had a break out run?

Coach Mary Beth Gallagher: “I will tell you each kid improved their times from the trial times two mile a week earlier and that is what we hope to do each week.”
