Basketball Coach Jeff Maynard

Basketball Coach Jeff Maynard

The ReSporter: What are you trying to emphasize during the off week for the team?

Coach Maynard: “We are focusing on everything that we are doing right.  Although the outcomes have not gone our way, we had played well.  I think that the boys seem to realize that all of these games could have easily gone in our favor.”

The ReSporter: Does the team need a little help in everything, or a larger dose with a certain part of thelr game?

Coach Maynard: “We are playing well in all areas of the game, with the exception of one–shooting.  We have shot the ball better our last two games, but we still have been struggling at times when we need to make a shot.”

Coaches Corner: Jeff Maynard-Basketball

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

The ReSporter finally caught up with Jeff Maynard, the Head Coach for DSC_0467Canyon Lake Boys Basketball team.

The ReSporter: A 9-5 record so far this season….what are your thoughts on the progress the team has shown thus far?

Coach Maynard: “I am very pleased with where we are right now. This is the best start that we have ever had, and in all honesty we are a couple of possessions away from being 11-3. We still have a lot to improve on, but I am real proud of how our boys have approached the season thus far.”

The ReSporter: With this team it seems like you have a chance to sub any player at any time during a game and the talent level does not drop significantly. How will this dictate your game management?

Coaches Corner: Canyon Lake’s Matt Monzingo

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

Time with Head Coach Matt Monzingo morphed to looking into the future of the football program.

The Hawks have just finished an 8-2 record while beating some very good teams in the process.

The Sealy game comes to mind as Canyon Lake had one of its most important statement games in the short history for this program.

“We (CL) will reevaluate everything we are doing,” Coach Monzingo started. “From pre-game to halftime we will go over all of it.”

Talking about the players coming back, Coach Monzingo said, “We will have to move some guys around while we evaluate our depth.”

“We will have to develop a defensive end and defensive line,” Monzingo continued. “We want to find some meanness in them and find some guys with an attitude.”

Canyon Lake is losing several players on both sides of the line that had put in considerable minutes.

ascend to the pinnacle for another State Championship.

You know what happens as you walk stairs and don’t pay attention and all of a sudden the next step is higher than the other 25 steps you have taken before.

“Abilene Christian is the best passing team I have ever seen in six-man football,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “These are some big, bad, boy’s from Abilene.”

Coaches Corner: Lloyd Fields talking Austin Hill Country

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

The ReSporter was able to have one more audience with Coach Lloyd

Fields before the big game this Saturday in Marble Falls against Austin Hill Country Knights.

Both teams are presently rated second and third in State by The Bible of Six-Man Football in the State of Texas. Bracken is the second rated team, but the power polls has the game a toss-up.

AHC had a harder time than they expected against Rockwall Heritage last week in the first round of games.

“They (AHC) were not prepared to play Rockwall Heritage,” Coach Fields stated. “Heritage had a 30-16 lead and then they got three starters hurt…Austin Hill Country will hit you…both teams will be better and we are both 100% healthy for this game.”

ahead for next season.

The interview with Coach Monzingo was broken down with three questions…the first is how strong was our District?

The question was born from last week’s first round of playoff games where, Navarro and Boerne lost, while Wimberley won in overtime as District 26-3A was outclassed by District 25-3A.

Coaches Corner: Bracken’s Lloyd Fields

Friday, November 11th, 2011

The Bracken Christian Warriors has stepped into an off week thanks to a

Clear Lake team that decided it did not want to make the drive west to play the potent Warriors.

This will give the Coaches a chance to scout some prospected teams for future games.

“We will be in Austin and Abilene this coming weekend to check out a couple opponents,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said.

The Abilene game would have a team that might be a participant in two weeks, while the game in Austin will give the Warriors an opponent for next week.

The winner of Rockwall Heritage and Austin Hill Country will give Bracken it’s next team to play. BCS is practicing for playing one of those two teams.

Coaches Corner: Bracken Volleyball’s Shaunna Teuton

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Bracken Christian will be heading to San Antonio this Friday for a game in the Semi-Finals against Huntsville Alpha Omega.

The Warriors are going in with a 12 game winning streak and seem to be playing at a high level for the Final Four match-ups.

ReSporter: How would you evaluate where the team is going into this weekend?

Teuton: “I thought this is where we could be when we started this season…the players have played to their potential…it talks about how far we have come and how hard we have worked, but we know we need to fight go get the Championship.”

Coaches Corner: With Bracken’s Lloyd Fields

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Bracken Christian will have a statement game this week against

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

Kerrville OLH and the ReSporter had some time to talk to Head Coach Lloyd Fields.

Coach Fields was relatively in a good mood for the interview as the ReSporter found that Coach Fields has a second job as a Movie Critic.

When Coach got Coachy he came up with some decent strategy for BCS fans out there.

“We have three keys for the victory,” Coach Fields said. “Slow down (Marshall) Walker, field the onside kick, and don’t call Coach Thornton, Jeremy.”

Interviewing a sage like Coach Fields will make your hair turn grey or lose it all together.
