Bracken Christian will be heading to San Antonio this Friday for a game in the Semi-Finals against Huntsville Alpha Omega.

The Warriors are going in with a 12 game winning streak and seem to be playing at a high level for the Final Four match-ups.

ReSporter: How would you evaluate where the team is going into this weekend?

Teuton: “I thought this is where we could be when we started this season…the players have played to their potential…it talks about how far we have come and how hard we have worked, but we know we need to fight go get the Championship.”

Bracken Christian will have a statement game this week against

Kerrville OLH and the ReSporter had some time to talk to Head Coach Lloyd Fields.

Coach Fields was relatively in a good mood for the interview as the ReSporter found that Coach Fields has a second job as a Movie Critic.

When Coach got Coachy he came up with some decent strategy for BCS fans out there.

“We have three keys for the victory,” Coach Fields said. “Slow down (Marshall) Walker, field the onside kick, and don’t call Coach Thornton, Jeremy.”

Interviewing a sage like Coach Fields will make your hair turn grey or lose it all together.

“Weird feeling knowing your destiny is in other people’s hands,”

Head Coach Matt Monzingo started the weekly talk with sobering words.

Canyon Lake could either be in their last week of practice or with a little help, could be in for the second season that involves playoffs.

“This is a first in all my years as a coach,” Monzingo continued. “You can’t plan, you can’t scout…this is extremely frustrating.”

When asked how the practices are going for this week, Monzingo stated, “Practice is going good…Bandera has good skill at quarterback.”

This will be the third team in a row that revolves around the quarterback as far as passing and running the ball.

“We stunk it up,” Head Coach Matt Monzingo ended and started this

week’s article the same way. “I’m disappointed we did not take care of business.”

Canyon Lake now is in the position of needing help from other teams in order to have a chance for the playoffs.

“I don’t like my destiny in someone’s hands,” Coach Monzingo said. “We were not focused…we had a team meeting on Monday, and the kids thought it was going to be easy.”

Bracken starts facing teams that can put more meat on their plate. Marble

Falls Faith have proven to be a decent team the last two years.

Last year the Flames ended their campaign with a 9-2 record and are presently, 5-3 with two games remaining.

When asked how motivating the team is going, Coach Lloyd Fields said, “They don’t need us (coaches) to motivate, the team motivates themselves.”

Sounds like a team that is working on a 22 game winning streak.

Bracken has faced and beaten teams that have a 36-28 record for this season.

Canyon Lake is coming off their first loss of the year and Head Coach Matt

Monzingo took some time to answer some questions about Wimberley and the upcoming Boerne game.

ReSporter: How are you helping the players deal with their first loss of the year?

Coach Monzingo: “They’ve got to get over it…there is not one thing they can do about it and they have got to get back into the zone before this week’s game.”

Bracken Christian Warriors are starting the next phase of their season.

The end of District play will be in the next three weeks and Bracken still has some work to do as they ready themselves for Playoffs.

This conversation with Head Coach Lloyd Fields revolved more on how that part of the season will go….

One thing Coach Fields does know is the state of the team as they progress through this part of the schedule.

“Each game gets more important,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields

admonished. “This will be a very difficult team to prepare for, because they do so much stuff.”

Stuff, is the operative word for different formations and giving defensive minded coaches enough headaches that their vocabulary incorporates the words like, ‘stuff’.

CASA will be the second team with a three game winning streak coming into the game with the Warriors in a row.

The Rams started the season slow, but have picked up steam recently by surprising several soothsayers with their victory over SA Winston last Friday.

CASA beat their cross town rivals 45-39 which raised several eyebrows the next morning as people were going over the previous evening scores.

“This will be the quickest team we have played since Hill Country,” Coach Fields said.

“We are so excited about last night!! Both JV and Varsity persevered for our district title,” Head Coach Shaunna Teuton said excitedly.

The Warriors started the match losing their first game, 23-25.

“I think we were working out the nerves in the first game,” Coach Teuton said. “We were making some mistakes that we don’t typically make and they came out with a fast lead. We worked hard to catch up, but never passed them. At the end of the first game we had the momentum, though not the win, and went with it. They were close games and we had to work hard.”

Bracken has been on a roll after losing their first District game of the year. The Warriors have been unbeaten since the loss to Kerrville OLH four weeks ago.

“This will be an easy game to fire them (football team) up,” Head

Coach Matt Monzingo started.

Times are different from this time last season. The Hawks had just lost a brutal game to Navarro and had a 2-4 record. Consistency was a word that had not been used many times up to that point.

Talking to Coach Monzingo this season has not been a chore, as the Hawks have not had the ‘bad taste in your mouth’ type of games up to this point.

“The kids listen,” Coach Monzingo continued. “When we (Coaches) ask them to improve or work on certain areas, then they have responded each time.”
