Canyon Lake came up short in their loss to Wimberley as the Texans’ Defense shut down the Hawk’s Slot-T in this victory, 31-21.

“We just had too many mistakes and we practiced Wimberley’s running that screen all week,” Head Coach Charley Drum stated. “The last two weeks we stepped up our competition and they made more big plays than we did.”

On what this short week will mean for the team, “We are going to find out but this is why we scheduled this way.”

                Go Hawks

Canyon Lake Junior Varsity last their first game of the season when Wimberley showed up at the Hawk Nest and demolished the home team, 34-0.

The Hawks started their first possession with 2 running plays for a first and then the faucet was turned off with a vengeance as CL would not celebrate another first down until 8 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter.

That drive would be the best the Hawks would offer for this evening as they had 9 plays and stalling on Wimberley’s 37 yard line.

Wimberley would score on their first 2 possessions in the second half as they raced (literally) out to a 28-0 lead. The Texans shortest scoring play was 10 yards as they accumulated 246 yards on those 5 scoring jaunts.

Canyon Lake did show life once in the 4th quarter when Landry Moore snagged a pass and was just short being tackled on the Texan’s 4 yard line.

With a 1st and goal at the 4 yard line the Hawks would show once again that this game would not have any good come from it.

The Hawks will be back in action next Wednesday and than might be the answer to see if Canyon Lake might be able to play better on a different day.

A forgettable day and a short memory will be the only way to recoup from this loss.

Head Coach Hosea Stredic

The ReSporter would like to apologize with not having a game article after Bracken’s win over Medina last week. The replay The ReSporter sees for witnessing the game was messed up which caused the game being delayed to the first of this week. So, not enough time to develop a story based on other businesses The ReSporter has to help pay mortgage.

The ReSporter: What is your overall thoughts as the team has finished 1/3 of their season, are they where you thought they would be?

Coach Stredic: “Nah, really I am real happy with where we are. The guys are really grasping to the offense, but the defense has to improve. I am ok with where we are but we have a ways to go.”

The ReSporter: I noticed you started the game in spread and then got back to tight, is changing up the offense a lot like having a good running game opening up the passing lanes?

Coach Stredic: “As far as coming out in the spread, I thought about running spread all night, but I figured we would stay with what we are good at…..so we went back to the tight offense.” (more…)

The CLB team will be on live at 7:00pm Friday for a 7:30pm kick-off when Canyon Lake’s takes on Wimberley at Texan Stadium and the Battle of the Devil’s Back-Bone.

The ReSporter caught up with Coach Charlie Drum on this important week when the Hawks will try to rebound after their loss to Giddings and takes on Wimberley for this Battle of the Devil’s Backbone!

The ReSporter: Do you see a different intensity from the players when you prepare for playing Wimberley?

Coach Drum: “Yes, it is a natural geographic rivalry and a lot of these kids grew up together playing youth sports.”
