The ReSporter would like to apologize with not having a game article after Bracken’s win over Medina last week. The replay The ReSporter sees for witnessing the game was messed up which caused the game being delayed to the first of this week. So, not enough time to develop a story based on other businesses The ReSporter has to help pay mortgage.

The ReSporter: What is your overall thoughts as the team has finished 1/3 of their season, are they where you thought they would be?

Coach Stredic: “Nah, really I am real happy with where we are. The guys are really grasping to the offense, but the defense has to improve. I am ok with where we are but we have a ways to go.”

The ReSporter: I noticed you started the game in spread and then got back to tight, is changing up the offense a lot like having a good running game opening up the passing lanes?

Coach Stredic: “As far as coming out in the spread, I thought about running spread all night, but I figured we would stay with what we are good at…..so we went back to the tight offense.” (more…)

The CLB team will be on live at 7:00pm Friday for a 7:30pm kick-off when Canyon Lake’s takes on Wimberley at Texan Stadium and the Battle of the Devil’s Back-Bone.

Hawk’s Head Coach Charley Drum

The ReSporter caught up with Coach Charlie Drum on this important week when the Hawks will try to rebound after their loss to Giddings and takes on Wimberley for this Battle of the Devil’s Backbone!

The ReSporter: Do you see a different intensity from the players when you prepare for playing Wimberley?

Coach Drum: “Yes, it is a natural geographic rivalry and a lot of these kids grew up together playing youth sports.”

Canyon Lake went for their halftime break and returned as a different team as the Hawks could only generate 108 yards after intermission compared to their 224 yards in that first half.

Giddings also went into halftime and came out a different team as their defense controlled the line of scrimmage while they scored twice in the 4th quarter for the 13 point victory, 34-21.

“They (Giddings) taught us a lesson and that is why we scheduled a team like this,” Head Coach Charlie Drum said. “We made more mistakes in the second half and they just came out in the second half and whipped us….we just did not match them in that 2nd half.”

On what Canyon Lake will need to do as the Battle of the Backbone Game comes calling next week in Wimberley.

“We have to clean up mistakes,” Coach Drum said succinctly.

Hawks Win Alpha-Omega Game against Giddings

Mountain Valley 8th Grade was able to split their game Giddings for the opening day of this year’s football season.

The Hawk ‘B’ squad had an alpha/omega game as Mountain Valley was able to score the first and last touchdown to salvage this contest, 14-06.

That first touchdown for MV would be their first drive covering 41 yards when Jake Peters crossed the goal line on a one yard run.

The drive was helped when Devyn Placeres was able to get around the edge for a 28 yard jaunt and setting up the Hawks with a first and goal from the 3 yard line. Two plays later, Peters was crossing the line for the first score of this year.
