Canyon Lake Hawks JV 1 team won their 6th game with just one loss after taking the New Braunfels’ Cougarettes to the zoo in a, 44-13 victory.

A pair of Hawks had 12 points with Lainee Moses and Sophia Barber leading the charge for Canyon Lake.

Barber had a different outlook on this contest as a Canyon transfer that knew this opponents in a much deeper way.

Guard Barber shared how she approaches her games, “I address the situation and as a guard you have to take charge of the game.”

Canyon Lake took a 5 point first quarter deficit and finish with a 15 point win over Austin Crockett on Tuesday night in Austin, 52-37.

“It was rough at the beginning,” Head Coach Zach Burleson started. “We were frustrated but battled through it. It’s good to come back from adversity. Then again, I need to find a way to get us starting better.”

Those 19 points given up in that first quarter by the Hawks had the defense not allowing that many points combined for the rest of the contest while an impressive 20 point second quarter   giving CL enough fire power to build their lead till the end.  

“The defense did their job that turned a rough start to a win,” Coach Burleson assessed. “We played good after the first outscoring them, 38-19 in the last 3 periods.”

Char Hutson one of many Hawks that do those important little things

Canyon Lake Lady Hawks wrestled through another tough tournament while going 1-3 this weekend in New Braunfels at Canyon High School.

The Hawks were in all of their games but having such a diverse team that ranges from freshman to seniors on the roster will many times produce those parts of the game where climbing the mountain a fall is always around the corner.

In most of these contests, the Hawks, started slow and found themselves trying to catch up to have a chance for the win.

CL had 5 freshman on the roster and getting significant playing time for future games that will prove fruitful.

“Overall, the tournament was tough and we had moments of good with some struggles,” Head Coach Zach Burleson surmised. “We didn’t play our best at all times but hopefully playing bigger schools will help us prepare for the district season.”

The Hawk Ladies beat up on the Badgers this past Tuesday with a 10 point victory improving their record to 5-4 for this young season winning, 48-38.

“This was a good win for us,” Head Coach Zach Burleson started. “Lampasas is a tough place to play and to be able to come out with a win is good.”

Alexa Ramos was everywhere as this ever-ready battery lady was non-stop scoring 16 points with 7 steals and dishing out 4 assists.

“Alexa Ramos had a real good night slashing to the basket,” Head Coach Zach Burleson surmised. “It was her best as far at that goes.”

Not a bad days work as Ramos would harness 7 rebounds to finish out her effort in Badger country.

Young Life says        Go Hawks

Canyon Lake has now been immersed with the Basketball Season as football and volleyball teams have been eliminated in tournament play and that immersion can also be seen with some swimming in this week’s schedule.

This has been a part of the season that would usually not hold out for a lot of exciting times around the area but both Girls and Boys Basketball teams have already shown that this might be a good year for giving these athletes a perusal as in previous seasons.

                          Junior Reagan Heun scores 27 points in win over Somerset

Canyon Lake came out of their tough week-end tournament and dominated Somerset Bulldogs with a convincing 14 point advantage in the 3rd quarter in coasting to even their record winning, 50-37.

Regan Heun scored 27 points in this contest as the Hawks needed to run their air conditioner on the bus on the ride home to help cool off the team.

There is something about Somerset that has Reagan’s Sun Rising as she scored 26 points during her freshman year and now has an all time scoring high by one point.
