The Hawks had a one point lead at halftime but they were living on borrowed time as injuries and foul trouble help reduce Canyon Lake’s roster to five players at the end of this game.

“We showed good hustle,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “But our lack of experience hurt us at the end when the game was time to close it out.”

In starting this contest, Senior Kelsey Ahrens was nursing a sore back and Freshman Reagan Heun was ill, which had two starters taken out of their line-up before the opening tip-off.

A turned ankle for Alexa Ramos, then adding Alexis Fullen and Mia Riali, and Sarah Schneidr leaving for the bench after committing their fifth foul left Coach Gallagher looking at an empty bench for substitutions.

That speaks volumes, for a team that has had problems in many areas but being able to be competitive to the end without having players that are used to playing significant minutes.

Lady Hawks Improve as District Season Nears

Sunday, December 7th, 2014

Lady Hawks Basketball starts their home stretch before District 27-4A play begins later this month.

Senior Kyndall Drum's return will be a welcome sight for a young Hawk team

Senior Kyndall Drum’s return will be a welcome sight for a young Hawk team

To say that Canyon Lake is young would be an obvious statement and so that 3-11 record should not surprise the casual viewer.

What you will need to see as this season continues is how this group of young ladies will improve on some of their weaknesses and with that improvement being able to focus on the bigger picture, a berth for post-season.

This line-up presently has just two players that were suited up from last year’s team.

That simple statement explains a team that is relearning offense/defense and just getting to know each other.

Sophomore Mia Riali and Junior Sarah Schneider are the only players that played last season with Kyndall Drum biting at the bit to return later this month after suffering a pre-season injury.

Drum led last year’s team in scoring and finished second in rebounds.

Lady Hawks Lose Two in New Braunfels Tourney

Friday, December 5th, 2014

Lady Hawks finished their first day at the New Braunfels Tournament 0-2 with losses to Dripping Springs and Bridge City last Thursday.

Canyon Lake continues to struggle from the field and in their game with Bridge City had a brash of turnovers that just buried this young team.

Things will certainly turn around as this team continues to mature as this season continues.

Freshman Alexa Ramos will soon help with her play while Junior Sarah Schneider had her best game with Bridge City.

Lady Hawks Win 2nd in a Row, over Luling, 52-26

Wednesday, November 26th, 2014

Canyon Lake Lady Hawks improved their record to 3-6 with a win in Luling on Tuesday, 52-26.

The win was CL’s second in a row as they go into the Thanksgiving break with some momentum.

Reagan Heun led all scorers with 19 points while Mia Riali also chipped in 11 points as both players shot at a much better rate while getting help from the rest of the team.

Alexis Fullen would fill that bill as this player seems to have a knack for blocked shots as she led the team with two against the Eagles. Fullen led the team with nine rebounds

Canyon Lake’s 26 point victory was the best for this season as they scored in double figures for each quarter which was also a first for this year.

Alexa Ramos, another Freshman, was in her second game and reached three assists and no turnovers which is that one stat that will need to be better as other teams will put more pressure on this young team.

CL Lady Hawks Beat Somerset, 37-31

 Somerset 10 4 7 10 31
 CL Hawks 9 4 8 16 37

Canyon Lake hit their stride in the fourth quarter as they used that six point advantage to win their second game of this season, 37-31 over Somerset Bulldogs.

“I thought Reagan (Heun) played well, she handled the pressure well and she made some key three pointers and just overall, showed poise,” Head Coach Mary-Beth Gallagher said. “We had a lift by getting the other freshman, Alexa Ramos back for a little bit and she too played well.”

The Hawks were led by Freshman Reagan Heun who scored 26 points to lead CL to this victory.

A pretty good line score as with those 26 points, she added 2 assists, 3 steals, and a block to top off this game.

“I felt we attacked the boards better than we had been and did a better job of limiting Somerset to one shot possessions,” Coach Gallagher continued.

Heun was just one rebound away for a double/double agains this Bulldog team.

Alexis Fullen has now topped more than 10 blocks as she continued that strength of her game with 2 in this game.

CL Girls Basketball gears up for District Play in December

Monday, November 24th, 2014

Canyon Lake Basketball is a very youthful group of girls which when translated means for a long season in the win and loss ledger.

Lexy Jackson will be an integral part for the Hawks this season.

Lexy Jackson will be an integral part for the Hawks this season.

The Hawks have just one win in their first eight games and the District 26-4A will be calling on December 19th when CL will face Yoakum at home.

You will also notice that Senior Kyndall Drum is not on any of the stat lines below as she will be expected back in December after recovering from her injury.

The Hawks will welcome her Senior leadership and added depth.

Also, Canyon Lake has been given another shot of a Freshman in Reagan Heun who leads the team in 77 points. That is 70% of points scored this season as she would be dominating at the Freshman team, but due to lack of depth with the older girls, this young lady will be called upon for this whole season.

Lady Hawks Start Basketball with Tough Loss to Lehman, 84-40

Tuesday, November 11th, 2014

The Girl’s Hawk Basketball team started their year off with a tough home loss to Lehman on Tuesday night at the Hawk Gym, 84-40.

Young would be a good way of describing how this season will go and for their first game it was not good playing a Senior loaded team in the Lobos.

Freshman Reagan Heun was the leading scorer with 13 points for the Hawks and Sophomore Mia Riali finished with 9 in a game that was over after the first quarter.

There were some glimpses of good play when Senior Kelsey Ahrens finished with 4 assists on some beautiful passes inside the paint.

The Hawks did finish with 17 points in the fourth quarter which was two more points scored in their first half.

A lot more games to go and see how the maturation of this team jells as the year gets older and some of those injured players come back and give CL some depth.

CLJV Comes together by Winning again over the Billies, 26-12

Canyon Lake’s JV taking Bandera Bulldogs to the Pound

Canyon Lake reverses last year’s season as they dominated Fredericksburg for another district win, 26-12.

“We kind of do what the defense is going to give us,” Head JV Coach John Barthels said. “Everybody out here likes to play football and with this offense, it can put other team’s defense in bad situations.”

Go back to last year when most of this team’s players were playing as freshman and a good play would be an interception on a two point conversion that would result in two points for Canyon Lake.

Last year this team did not win a game and those two points that were scored would be viewed as a huge play.

Fast forward to this past Thursday when Canyon Lake won their second District 14-4A-I game out of three contests with a chance of finishing first.

The Billies started this game with some degree of authority as they stuffed the Hawk’s running game and preceded to take just four plays for a score.

“That middle linebacker was hauling in with a blitz every time,” Running Back Cody Davis said shaking his head. “It was a tough game and they were fighting but we were also matching them we just fought harder.”

Glimpses of last year would be dancing in the fans head as CLJV would get in that familiar kick-off formation as the receiving team.

They did that a lot last season.

Bailey Drum Honored with Best Girl’s Multi Sport Athlete

Thursday, June 5th, 2014

The Hilltop ReSporter got wind of one more athlete who was awarded for being the best female

Sophomore Bailey Drum with Girls AD John Gallagher after being named Best Multi Sports Athlete

Sophomore Bailey Drum with Girls AD John Gallagher after being named Best Multi Sports Athlete

multi sport athlete this past season.

With the addition of Girls AD, John Gallagher, this award was born with the intent of seeing if more girls would try their hand at more than one or two sports.

Enter this year’s winner.

Sophomore Bailey Drum who started in August and continued through the Region Track Meet in Kingsville a few weeks ago.

Drum played Varsity on both the Volleyball and Basketball team as a Sophomore and proved that this young lady will be a force as she continues her high school career.

Second Team All-District in Volleyball where Drum was also active in the class room with a 95 average during her season and making Academic All-District.

A side note for CL Volleyball in District 27-3A with teams that had Academic All-District recognition.

 School # of Girls
 Bandera 0
 Boerne 8
 Fredericksburg 3
 Navarro 0
 Wimberley 0
 Canyon Lake 10
Bailey Drum Regan Mickey Alexis Robinson Hannah Wunderlich
Grace Allen Kelsey Ahrens Mariah Ellis Hayley Melone
Lillie Sander Kacee Vrana Emily Muniz Trena Lorett
 Danielle Stansberry

That is one of the most impressive stats of this season as Bailey and nine other classmates dominated this honor.

Drum finished second with 207 kills, fifth with 140 digs, third with 14 blocks, and fourth with 21 service aces for Canyon Lake this past season.

The Hawks were a very young team as Freshman Mickey and Sophomore Wunderlich were the top two players in assists.

Junior Ellis, Junior Melone, and Freshman Mickey were the top three in digs and CL had the top five non-seniors with service aces.

 Melone 56
 Regan 30
 Wunderlich 26
 Ellis 21
 Drum 21
Bailey Drum Triple Jumping in the Blanco Track Meet this year

Bailey Drum Triple Jumping in the Blanco Track Meet this year

Bailey Drum also finished her basketball season finishing second in scoring with 102 points for the Hawks. With 68 rebounds, Drum, was only behind Kyndall Drum (not related) and Amber Ramsey this past season.

Drum ran or jumped (literally) to track and field after the basketball season ended, where she was active in several events this past year, but the Triple Jump was that one event that kept Drum in competition into April with a Region berth.

Drum picked a good time to unleash her best Triple Jump of her career, as she soared for a 36-02 mark in the Area Meet after finishing on the first place podium in the District Meet, jumping for 34-07.50.

How Bailey Drum performed with her best distances or times:

100 Meter Hurdles 300 Meter Hurdles 4x400 Meter Relay
17.00 Dist Meet 51.30 Dist Meet 4:13.63 District Meet

 Triple Jump High Jump
36-02.00 Area Meet 4-08.00 Blanco Meet

Notice how many of Drum’s best marks were performed near the end of her track season which certainly gives you an idea of her never ending energy and will to compete at her very best.

Congratulations Bailey Drum and The ReSporter looks forward to covering you the next two years as there will certainly be more stories ready to expound on your conquests.

The ReSporter shares Stats from this Past School Year

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014

The Reporter would like to thank all the many readers that have frequented this website this past year.

The ReSporter would like you to Vault into next year by placing an Ad on this site.

The ReSporter would like you to Vault into next year by placing an Ad on this site.

This has been a very successful year for the website as each month this season had more visits than any previous month since we started four years ago.

The ReSporter had 315 articles this past school year and since starting this quest, The ReSporter, has finished a total of 1,159 posts or articles.

Another way of saying, a lot of stories.

Now it is time for The ReSporter to take a few months off and hopefully come back with enough energy to get another year finished.

Our apologies for these past couple of weeks, The ReSporter, has suffered ‘Burn Out’ much like many of the Seniors have suffered from Senioritis.

With that being said, The ReSporter would like to invite you to think about helping with posting an Ad through this venue.

Since, The ReSporter, likes numbers then chew and calculate how these stats might help your business.

School Year starting August 1 through May 28
Year Visits Pageviews Ave Time Top 3 Cities in Visits
 2013-14 25,334 62,610 3:02 CL-8689/SA-4560/NB-2388

The * for 2010-11 represents just three months as this endeavor started after the basketball season that year, so those numbers will not have the same amount of days you could visit.

This also shows how each year has topped each previous season which should hopefully give you an idea of what might happen this coming school year.

SA and NB for the cities represent San Antonio and New Braunfels. Austin and San Marcos were right behind those two cities giving you an idea of how far this site can reach what you might be needing to sell or get across to your audience.

Thanks once again for showing support for this site and know that an Ad would cost $50 per semester and an extra $35 if you would like to have your Ad placed with articles, which many of you have noticed we started doing this past spring.

The ReSporter would also welcome ideas and thoughts that you might like to see for this upcoming school year.

Be Blessed and enjoy the Summer and tell my Advertisers you saw their Ad on my site…and Congrats to all the Seniors from Bracken and Canyon Lake. You don’t know how much I have enjoyed covering your events these past 4 years.
