Canyon Lake’s Motivational Tool

Sunday, August 4th, 2013

The ReSporter has tabulated this past season in District 27-3A team sports by school and as

Daniel Camarillo handing off to Doug Hubnik during the heyday for Boy's Track and Field

Daniel Camarillo handing off to Doug Hubnik during the heyday for Boy’s Track and Field

you can see last season was not a banner year for Canyon Lake.

If a school finished first then they garnered 1 point and if a school finished last, then they would accumulate 6 points.

So the school with the least amount of points would be the goal.

Canyon Lake is still looking for their first District 27-3A Title in any sport as their best finish is still a second place finish in their history. (Baseball ’10, Softball ’11, Boys Track ’11 and ’12)

This year the top four teams will be able to punch their ticket for a post season berth and if you used that same criteria for last year, then you will see that your Hawks would of only qualified in one team sport.

Football would of been that sport to qualify for a playoff if this new rule would of been in place.

In all the other team sports your Canyon Lake Hawks best finish was fifth place.

Last season in a word was not a banner year and as this new school season approaches, CLHS will have many opportunities to improve on that record.

The ReSporter Needs its Ads to Keep ADding Up!!

Saturday, May 11th, 2013

The ReSporter is now in its fourth year of covering Canyon Lake and Bracken Christian schools. The ReSporter has just finished it’s 1,043rd article and has also had 62,039 visits and 162,238 pages read as of February 5, 2014 stats.

As you know, this site is free for those who would like to frequent these pages after a sporting event. The ReSporter would like to introduce you to a new ‘Ad’ that was added about 10 days ago.

First off, do know that many of the advertisers on this site services The ReSporter’s household and there is a great deal of comfort in knowing that these Companies and people would treat you as well as I am treated by their services.

The ReSporter needs the audience that relies on this coverage to help out by telling these companies/people that you saw their ‘Ad’ on this site.

That way The ReSporter can keep up this coverage as the fall season looms right around the corner.

The money that is raised through our Advertisers goes to gas money, cost for maintenance for this site, and hopefully enough to put away for just cost of living increases.

If this is not realized, then there is a chance that The ReSporter might close shop before the start of next school year.

Just making it known that letting the Advertisers know that they are seen on this site will certainly help with getting, by word of mouth, other companies to also think about advertising with The ReSporter.

Food That Might Need a Firefighter

Jerry Besselman has been a face that many fans have seen at any Hawk Sporting event that would involve refreshing your tastes.

The ReSporter went on a search to find someone that might have been to more games and events that wasn’t a player or Coach. Besselman fit that bill as the man behind the counter where you will find liquids or food to keep that Hawk fan strong enough to end the game and yelling on their Hawk team flavor of that event.

The ReSporter had an opportunity to get with Besselman at the end of a Hawk Softball game for a formal introduction to you the fan.

The ReSporter: Hey Jerry are you having fun?

Jerry Besselman: “Yes, I get to be around students and they all know my name.”

The ReSporter: Do they know you as Jerry or Besselman?

Jerry Besselman: “There was a time when Coach Nicole Creek needed to get a hold of me to change a time of a game or something like that and she was wanting to look up my phone number. She could not find me because she knew me by my first name. So yes, I’m thinking most of the students and teachers just know me by my first name.”

Katie Williams Signs for One College will play Two Sports

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

Katie Williams and Jordan Anderson have had stellar careers at Canyon Lake High

Katie Williams signing on with Dallas Christian College with Ray and Karen Williams looking on.

School these past four years and now embark on their next quest as both of these students have signed on for playing their sports in College.

Katie Williams will be going to Dallas Christian College (DCC) and will be playing two sports when she reports the end of the Summer to her new home.

Williams was seen at a Volleyball event earlier this year when DCC noticed and started to show interest.

A few weeks later, conversation morphed to Basketball and soon Williams would be asked to help the Crusaders in Basketball also.

Not very many athletes have the opportunity to play in two sports when reaching the next plateau in education, but Williams will have that opportunity.

“I’m excited but kind of nervous,” 2 Sport Williams started. “Their Coaches were so nice and I had tryouts in early March and I liked the small school atmosphere.”

BCS Warriors Fall Short in Loss to Lions, 57-35

Tuesday, February 19th, 2013

Bracken Christian had battled and won four games in a row in making the playoffs this year, but

Double Post and 4 Blocks by Wendy Johnson and Micaela Michael in Game with Central Texas Christian

they found a match-up that this Warrior team could not stay with for four quarters.

After that first quarter, BCS had a decent result only trailing three points. The Warriors had a lead with a little over two minutes in that quarter until the lid was placed on the rim.

That result had Central Texas Christian scoring 13 unanswered points and forging into a lead that was never relinquished.

BCS had Senior Post Wendy Johnson with 7 of those 9 points in that quarter, while dominating the paint with two blocks.

On a couple of those baskets, Johnson was an easy target displayed by her height on the inbound pass under the Warriors basket.

That play was worth some valuable points getting BCS back into a lead and stopping the Lions momentum. Johnson finished as the only Warrior with double digits, scoring 11 points.

“They (Coaches) picked me because I’m the tallest,” Johnson said.

Hoops Talk

Canyon Lake Girls will be playing their last game of this season tonight and there will be some sad times as four players will be playing their last contest.

Tammy Dean who has started a few games but more often than not, Tammy has come in to spell other guards and play some hustle defense.

Hannah St. John has been injured some this year, but also is one of those guards that has had some good offensive and defensive skills these past few seasons for the Hawks.

St. John is tied for fifth place in three point shots made with Amber West.

Kelsey Long has been an important post and wing player this season giving some important minutes on both sides of the court.

Lady Hawks Lose Last Home Game to Boerne, 39-32

Friday, February 1st, 2013

Senior’s Katie Williams, Hannah St. John, Tammy Dean, and Kelsey Long played valiantly in their final game at Canyon Lake on Friday night in a loss to Boerne, 39-32.

The stat line for this crew of girls was an impressive sight with this combined total:

                       3pt Pts Rebounds
             fgm-fga fgm-fga ftm-fta tot or-dr tot Steals Blocks
Four Seniors 8-18 2-4 3-5 21 1-8 9 2 1

Boerne was the front runner in district play and showed it as this game started when they jumped out to a nine point lead after the first quarter.

That Greyhound lead increased to 15 points as the teams went into halftime for instructions.

Canyon Lake answered the bell by cutting into that lead seven points after that third quarter, 33-25 deficit.

The Hawks were down just three points with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter, but the rim closed for the rest of this contest as Boerne closed with four points giving them their seven point victory.

Boy’s and Girl’s Hawk Basketball Shoot Blanks

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

Canyon Lake did not have a good day in competition on Tuesday night as the Hawks drew a blank in their games against Wimberley in girls and boys play.

CL Hawk girls basketball started their game scoring just one point in their first quarter and that start would be to hard to overcome in their loss, 44-30.

Katie Williams scored eight points to lead CL and also pulled down 10 rebounds, she was followed by Hannah St. John with six points.

Poor shooting continues to haunt Canyon Lake as they shot 22% from the field.

———————————————————————————

CL Boy’s basketball also could not keep up with Wimberley as the Texans increased their lead in that decisive fourth quarter for a victory over a ‘Backs to the Wall’ Hawk team.

Canyon Lake will now have to win out to have a legitimate chance for making the playoffs this season losing, 73-53.

Wimberley outscored CL 23-8 in that final stanza sealing this loss.
