Brandon Berger

Brandon Berger

The Canyon Lake Hawks will have a very pivotal position to be filled in the month of August. Jeff Nabors has taken his talents to the Houston area and with his departure leaves the Hawks looking for his replacement.

Nabors finished last season as All-District quarterback and helped take the team two rounds in the playoffs.

Senior Brandon Berger was the back up last season and settled into the starting role in the defensive backfield.

Eli Achilles is Stepping Up

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

The Bracken Christian Warriors will start the year looking a little different. Junior Eli Achilles started his career in the safety position and now with the loss of Joe Lonigro, Achilles will be bringing his 207 tackles up to the linebacker spot.

The progression of the young man has been significant. Eli Achilles started his freshman year, 5’10” and 140 pounds. Achilles now has a much bigger frame, 6’2” and 166 pounds.

Eli trails only Grant Granato, who graduated last year, by 17 tackles to take over first place in that category. Achilles also leads the team with 12 interceptions for his career.

Offensive Tackle: Michael Brady

Offensive Tackle Michael Brady

Offensive Tackle Michael Brady

Michael Brady is another undefeated Junior Varsity player that will add depth for the line. The young man has probably grown one or two inches since the ReSporter interviewed him.

How about: 6’2”     200 lbs.    Left Tackle     Junior

Brady also played a little quarterback for the JV last year, but the feeling that those days might be gone unless the Hawks can start beating teams like they were beaten in 2008.

Jeremy Fulton-Eating Reese’s Cup

Senior Tight End Jeremy Fulton

Senior Tight End Jeremy Fulton

There are several commercials that have been done with two flavors being put together for the best product. Reese’s cup comes to mind.

Senior Tight End Jeremy Fulton could very easily be that candy bar. Peanut butter and chocolate. The 6’1” 195lb player just needs to find out which part of the candy bar he will portray when the offensive play is called.

You see, the tight end has two responsibilities in football. They block like a tackle, guard, or center and then they can also release and be a receiver as a skill player.

Senior Fullback Joe D'Ottavio

Senior Fullback Joe D'Ottavio

The ReSporter has been concentrating on the offensive lineman for the past three weeks and now we would like to take a break from that routine for a couple of days and concentrate on a different type of blocker for the running game.

Joe D’Ottavio will be our next front and center profile.

D’Ottavio is a Senior—6’0”—210lbs—Fullback/Linebacker

The ReSporter continues it’s trek through the vein of the football team. The offensive line is the most important part of the offense. If the line breaks down, then all of the other facets of the offense has a much steeper climb to put their hurt on the opponents defense.

We have heard two words repeated throughout the sessions: The line is excited and the brotherhood aspect or togetherness that the line has bonded.

Left Tackle: Jaazaniah McNair

Monday, June 27th, 2011

jaazmcnairLast year was the tale of two seasons for Jaaz McNair. He started the season during the scrimmages and then came down with mono after the Dripping Springs scrimmage and was not back on the field until the middle of the season.

“I did not get back until the Austin Travis game and played my first game against Luling,” McNair coughed.

The offensive line was inconsistent during the first of the year and so it might not be a coincidence that the Luling game is when the Hawks put their best offensive game together running and passing up to that point of the season. The Hawks rushed for 233 yards and passed for 193. (more…)

Center—Logan ‘Excited’ Felch

Junior Center Logan Phelps

Junior Center Logan Felch

The ReSporter continues the in depth ‘getting to know’ your offensive lineman. We have the thoughts of Junior, 6’2” 190 lbs center, Logan Felch.

Felch was a lot like Wes Dicks in that he played for the Junior Varsity starting the season last year and was moved up during the middle of the season finishing with the Varsity.

It gives you the idea the Coaches knew they were planning for this year by giving these young man experience so the two deep plan could be put into full force for this upcoming season.
