The Drum Beat: With CL’s Football Coach Charley Drum

Thursday, November 8th, 2012

The ReSporter: Hey Coach Drum, this week your team will be

Head Coach Charley Drum

facing a known offense and yet it is one of the toughest offenses to control, why?

Coach Drum: “Our biggest problem is simulating this type of offense in practice. They (Navarro) have been running this offense since Seventh Grade and it is just hard to simultate.”

The ReSporter: Tell us a little more about what makes this offense so hard to figure out.

Coach Drum: “There are different keys for the defense. The Defensive Line, Linebackers, and Defensive Backs are all looking for different areas for assignment football.”

The ReSporter: In Navarro’s two losses this season, how did those teams disrupt this Panther team?

Coach Drum: “Wimberley had good penetration and controlled their line of scrimmage. You have to have a good scheme. If you do something to slow them down, then they can counter and they have done a good job doing that this season. Navarro has been successful because they don’t have a lot of turnovers.”

Pre/Game: Kerrville OLH (6-3) @ BCS (8-1)

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012
History: Bracken Christian holds a 4-1 edge in games played.
 2008 BCS 40 OLH 14
 2009 BCS 48 OLH 75
 2010 BCS 71 OLH 62
 2010 BCS 76 OLH 70 OT Playoff
 2011 BCS 79 OLH 34
This Year's Results:
BCS 56 Austin Hill Country 06 OLH 58 SA Castle Hills 47
BCS 66 Sugarland Logos 20 OLH 00 Seguin Lifegate 50
BCS 60 Brenham Christian 12 OLH 57 Cedar Park Summit 08
BCS 56 Boerne Geneva 58 OLH 42 Austin HIll Country 36
 BCS 58 SA Lutheran 00 OLH 54 CASA 06
BCS 98 Gustine 56 OLH 36 SA The Winston 67
BCS 53 SA The Winston 08 OLH 46 SA Castle Hills 44
 BCS 53 CASA 00 OLH 14 Boerne Geneva 70
 BCS 51 Emery-Weiner 19 OLH 64 SA Lutheran 14

There has been some classic games against Kerrville OLH from past years.

One such game played in 2009 was the last time Bracken had lost at home.

OLH had more in their tank in that contest as they poured it on in the second half and pulled away from a Bracken team that was on an 8 game winning streak and had a lot of momentum going into the post season.

Then in 2010, BCS returned the favor and narrowly escaped with a nine point win in Kerrville which allowed the Warriors to play a home playoff game while OLH would be relegated to a tougher road in the playoffs.

In fact, Bracken met up with OLH again that year in the third round of those playoffs.

It was a classic game that went into overtime with Bracken intercepting a pass that put your Warriors into their championship game and eventual TAPPS Trophy against Dallas Covenant.

Last year, Kerrville OLH and Bracken was battling for a District crown and the Warriors ‘Mercy’ gamed the visitors on this go around, 79-34. It was a 24th game winning streak for Bracken that got them eventually into another final four round.

Pre/Game: Navarro (3-1) @ CLHawks (2-2)

Monday, November 5th, 2012
History: Canyon Lake and Navarro are tied at one game a piece in their short history.
 2010 Hawks 26 Panthers 38
 2011 Hawks 41 Panthers 26
This Year:
 Hawks 26 Blanco 21 Navarro 21 SA Antonian 35
 Hawks 35 Somerset 54 Navarro 36 SA Christian 34
Hawks 13 La Vernia 14 Navarro 68 SA Holy Cross 07
 Hawks 31 Burnet 37 Navarro 48 Marion 14
Hawks 09 La Grange 34 Navarro 30 SA Sam Houston 13
 Hawks 27 Fredericksburg 17 Navarro 28 Boerne 14
 Hawks 42 Bandera 07 Navarro 20 Wimberley 21
 Hawks 03 Wimberley 40 Navarro 54 Fredericksburg 23
 Hawks 16 Boerne 43 Navarro 48 Bandera 13

Canyon Lake has just one option this week. Win, and if possible more than 14 points.

Navarro will be bringing their run game to Hawk stadium and if you can think back two years ago, then you might remember over 500 yards gained on the ground by that Panther team.

Navarro only has one loss in District 27-3A competition and that loss was by one point to Wimberley.

Boerne was beaten by 14 points to Navarro leaving just one other choice for Canyon Lake.

If Boerne could beat Wimberley, then Canyon Lake could win by one point over Navarro to squeeze into the third spot in district play. That win would give CL the bid based on head to head action.

Pre/Game: BCS (7-1) @ Houston Emery-Weiner (4-4) Saturday

Monday, October 29th, 2012
History: Bracken leads series with Houston Emery-Weiner 1-0.
 2011 Bracken Christian 58 Houston Emery-Weiner 08
This Season Results:
BCS 56 Austin Hill Country 06 Jaguars 23 Brenham Christain 00
BCS 66 Sugar Land Logos 20 Jaguars 38 Community Christian 54
BCS 60 Brenham Christian 12 Jaguars 69 Mount Carmel 31
BCS 56 Boerne Geneva 58 Jaguars 43 Tomball HomeSchool 60
BCS 58 SA Lutheran 00 Jaguars 12 Allen Academy 70
BCS 98 Gustine 56 Jaguars 54 Clear Lake Christian 27
BCS 53 SA The Winston 08 Jaguars 48 Oakwood 78
 BCS 53 CASA 00 Jaguars 68 Sanchez 19

Bracken Christian has had just one game with Houston Emery-Weiner, but you can know one thing that is irrefutable about this 6-Man football team.

They will never have to worry about an injury depleting their roster.

E-W has had 11 players catch a ball this season while Bracken has 13 players on their roster.

This Houston team has two practices, one for defense and one for offense.

Bracken hopes no one is sick on any given day so they can have a practice with at least six players for each side of the ball.

Pre/Game: Hawks (2-1) @ Boerne (2-1); Thursday at 7:30

Sunday, October 28th, 2012
History: The Series with Boerne Greyhounds is tied at 1-1.
 2010 Hawks 21 Boerne 07
 2011 Hawks 14 Boerne 35
This Years Results:
 Hawks 26 Blanco 21 Boerne 24 Hondo 28
 Hawks 35 Somerset 54 Boerne 49 Medina Valley 47

 Hawks 09 La Grange 34 Boerne 42 Lytle 08
 Hawks 27 Billies 17 Boerne 14 Navarro 28
 Hawks 42 Bandera 07 Boerne 31 Fredericksburg 14
 Hawks 03 Wimberley 40 Boerne 35 Bandera 13

Canyon Lake continues their melt down when meeting Wimberley. Whatever the reason, CL

CL's Defense answering the call against Bandera

will have errors in this game along with a team that can exploit a Hawk team repeatedly each season.

This week, Canyon Lake has an early date with Boerne on Thursday with both teams needing a win to enhance their chances of being one of those three teams to make the playoffs.

A loss and then, just like last year, the team that loses will need a lot of help from other teams to have a chance of going on with their season.

It is safe to say that Fredericksburg and Bandera will have another year at the bottom of this district, leaving three playoff spots for four teams.

Pre/Game: BCS (6-1) @ CASA (0-6) 7:30PM

Monday, October 22nd, 2012
History: Bracken Christian leads series with CASA, 4-0.
 2008 BCS 58 CASA 13
 2009 BCS 64 CASA 19
 2010 BCS 50 CASA 00
 2011 BCS 74 CASA 06
This Year's Results:
BCS 56 Austin Hill Country 06 CASA 06 Seguin Lifegate 54
BCS 66 Sugar Land Logos 20 CASA 18 SA Town East 64

BCS 98 Gustine 56 CASA 00 SA The Winston 45
BCS 53 SA The Winston 08

The ReSporter could only find names of three players for CASA and nothing else about games played or Stats for those games.

After this week’s game you will still know nothing about any players and only have one game of Stats for this team.

Take the total score of the four games played and you would have a good indication of what this outcome will be.

Pre/Game: Hawks (2-0 Dist) @ Texans (2-0 Dist) 7:30pm

Sunday, October 21st, 2012
History: Wimberley leads series 4-0
 Hawks 07 Texans 41
 Hawks 15 Texans 38
 Hawks 18 Texans 38
 Hawks 14 Texans 50
This Season:
 Hawks 26 Blanco 21 Texans 27 Llano 26
 Hawks 35 Somerset 54 Texans 26 Giddings 31
Hawks 13 La Vernia 14 Texans 13 Dripping Springs 28
 Hawks 31 Burnet 37 Texans 24 La Vernia 10
Hawks 09 La Grange 34 Texans 24 Liberty Hill 46
 Hawks 27 Billies 17 Texans 40 Bandera 06
 Hawks 42 Bandera 07 Texans 21 Navarro 20

The ReSporter will start with the Non-District games first.

Wimberley has played teams with an overall record of 19-16. while Canyon Lake has played teams with a 21-15 slate.

District play has both teams playing teams with 7-7 for Wimberley and CL with 6-8 record.

One common opponent for non-district was La Vernia. CL lost by one point and Wimberley won by two touchdowns.

Going with that theme, Bandera also beat, La Vernia 34-14. That score has already been nixed by those same Bulldogs coming out on the short end with CL and Wimberley by a score that was very similar and both games being at home.

Wimberley won that game scoring 34 unanswered points to start the game, while Canyon Lake ended their game with 35 unanswered points.

That Bandera team was not the same Bulldog team from non-district, in that they were stripped of their best player in their last non-district game. Michael Miller might have been the best player for District 27-3A this year based on his accomplishments before his injury.

Wimberley best victory might have come last week in their win over Navarro on the road. Another game that good teams find a way of winning.

Pre/Game: Bracken (5-1) @ The Winston (4-2)

Monday, October 15th, 2012
History: Bracken Christian leads series with Winston 4-0.
 2008 BCS 46 SA Winston 00
 2009 BCS 74 SA Winston 14
 2010 BCS 65 SA Winston 20
 2011 BCS 54 SA Winston 00
This Year's Games:
BCS 56 Austin Hill Country 06 Winston 34 FEAST 81
BCS 66 Sugarland Logos 20 Winston 44 Austin Hill Country 48
BCS 60 Brenham Christian 12 Winston 45 Prairie Lea 00
BCS 56 Boerne Geneva 58 Winston 65 CC Annapolis 27
BCS 58 SA Lutheran 00 Winston 67 Kerrville OLH 36
 BCS 98 Gustine 56 Winston 45 CASA 00

The last time SA The Winston had a longer winning streak than Bracken Christian coming into their annual game this week was never.

Winston is riding a four game winning streak and another win this week would tie their total wins from last season. The Eagles only had one win in district last season and have already passed that total.

By looking at the history of games you will notice that The Winston has not played a full game against BCS yet. All their games have had that ‘Mercy’ moniker placed on them up to this point.

This Eagle team seems to have changed their game plan from the start of this season and now.

Their first games were more passing oriented and now Winston is running like their is no tomorrow.

Pre/Game: Bandera (2-4) @ CL Hawks (2-4)

Sunday, October 14th, 2012
History: Canyon Lake lead series with Bandera, 2-0.
 2010 Hawks 35 Bandera 06
 2011 Hawks 55 Bandera 33
This Season's Scores:
 Hawks 26 Blanco 21 Bandera 13 George West 27
 Hawks 35 Somerset 54 Bandera 25 Devine 60
 Hawks 13 La Vernia 14 Bandera 26 Llano 39
 Hawks 31 Burnet 37 Bandera 39 Comfort 21
Hawks 09 La Grange 34 Bandera 34 La Vernia 14
 Hawks 27 Billies 17 Bandera 06 Wimberley 40

Bandera comes into this week’s game without one of their best offensive players.

Quarterback Michael Miller was lost for the year in their win over La Vernia two weeks ago.

Miller was a do everything type of player for this Bulldog team. He might remind Hawk fans of that quarterback (name withheld by Doctors orders) for Boerne last year that became a nightmare for all those sleepless nights as fans waited for this season to start.

Miller still leads District 27-3A in rushing after missing his first game last week against Wimberley. His 735 yards rushing will be hard to replace to say the least.

In fact, Miller accounted for 53% of the Bulldogs offense until his injury.

Pre/Pre/Game: Bracken @ Gustine Tigers

Thursday, October 11th, 2012

Bracken Christian Warriors have been thrown a curve ball this week.

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

The game with SA Atonement was cancelled and BCS has been trying to find some teams with open dates to play.

The Pre/Game article with SA Atonement will have to be scrapped and now a new team and place to play will be the result.

Gustine, about a three hour drive up 281, contacted Bracken needing a game for this Friday. So, the Warriors will now be traveling to a Division I UIL destination.

Gustine was very proactive simply because this weekend was going to be their Homecoming game.

That is what put a sense of urgency for getting this game scheduled so quickly.

What do we know about Gustine? Not much…They have a 1-5 record this season, but this team has been decimated by injuries and finished one game with just six players.

The Tigers were picked for second place in their district to begin this season.
