Alexis Robinson Signs Two Letters for Playing at Sul Ross this Fall

Alexis 'Smiley' Robinson signs two letters of intent for playing at Sul Ross

Alexis ‘Smiley’ Robinson signs two letters of intent for playing at Sul Ross

Alexis Robinson signed her letter of intent to attend Sul Ross earlier this year and will play two sports that she excelled in at Canyon Lake these past four years.

Robinson was the replacement for Missy Romero in the circle four years ago and she grew into her roll with grace and stamina, leaving with a bus load of records.

A good parting gift for Robinson could be a turn-table or a Juke Box to have a chance to replay her records while at school.

Robinson will be going from the Hill Country to the Davis Mountain Country as that will also be her job in raising her talent level in order to compete on a college stage. Just like climbing a hill versus climbing a mountain, it will be steeper and much higher.

Mountain Valley Dominate SV Rangers in Win, 15-1

Saturday, May 14th, 2016

Mountain Valley Lady Hawks Softball Win District

Mountain Valley Lady Hawks Softball Win District

Mountain Valley took SV Rangers to the cleaners after swamping the home team, 15-1 in completing their undefeated season.

Earlier this year, the Hawks escaped with a 12-11 win over Smithson Valley, which was as close any team would get to Mountain Valley Middle School.

On Saturday, Mountain Valley had a statement game as they had seven outs in the 4 inning affair as the Hawks were capped with 5 runs in three of the four innings played.

Maddy Puente and Kensie Sayles combined for a 4 hitter in this mercy game with a total dominating win over the Rangers.

Last season, Mountain Valley was denied a first place finish by this same club as the Hawks had plenty motivation in wanting to complete this season with this victory.

Mountain Valley started off strong with a lead off walk and 5 singles while only having one out when Chelsea Tschoepe scored stopping the inning.

SV Rangers scratched across one run on two singles with their half of the first inning and that score would be all she wrote for the home team.

Going into the 3rd inning, the Hawks, started strong again when Puente was first up with a triple.

Adrianna Peaslee was up next with a single to drive in Puente. Peaslee finished the day with 3 hits and 3 rbi’s.

After a Hawk out, the next 5 batters would get a hit as this game was quickly getting out of hand with no MV batter being struck out.

Another 5 run inning and a comfortable 10-1 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd inning.

Mountain Valley changed pitchers as Puente took 3rd base while Kensie Sayles

Adrianna Peaslee and Kensie Sayles

Adrianna Peaslee and Kensie Sayles

would finish the next two innings.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Sayles started off allowing two singles. However, that would be the extent of the Rangers damage as two fly-outs and 4 strikeouts would put the Rangers out of their misery in those last two innings.

Only a walk in the bottom of the 4th as Sayles struck out the side against the other SV batters.

“I was going for spotting the ball,” Sayles said like a crafty pitcher that struck out the side to end the game.

Meanwhile, Mountain Valley would all but clinch their title with another 5 run 4th inning.

In what would be the last inning, Peaslee would touch all the bases after a line shot to left field that only had the outfield fence able to stop the screamer hit.

Peaslee was non-stop around the bases as she hit an inside the park homer to the delight of her teammates and the Hawk crowd.

“Amazing feeling,” Peaslee said with excitement. “I felt the hit and getting all the way home was amazing.”

“Last year, we lost to Smithson Valley, which kept us from winning it all,” Peaslee commented. “We wanted to get this win….this game we were ready to dominate and wanted to finish this season strong….we wanted to go all the way and not just halfway.”

The stunned silence from the Smithson Valley side of the stands was the price of admission on a day your Hawks would silence the Ranger team after turning this game to a laugher.

Only two Mountain Valley players were not able to get a base hit, but those two at bats did not go to waste as Landry Brown’s sacrifice flyball scored Madi Row who opened with a single.

Patrice Martinez was not allowed a chance to hit as she was walked and she stole a base and scored later in the inning.

If you want to know what dominance looks like then be sure you have some water close by as you try to digest these numbers:

                      game batting stats

batting average on base percentage slugging percentage
       .720 .750 .960

Those 4 hits Smithson Valley recorded for the game was less than the number of hits the Hawks accumulated in 3 of their innings.

This game was bound to be over after the 4th inning as there were other forces that would be sure this game went no further as the lightning and rain started soon after the umps called the game due to that 14 run lead.

“I hope I can be the best pitcher next year and strike out more players for outs,” Pitcher Peaslee said unabashedly.

A banner year for a group of ladies that dominated district opponents from Cuero to Middle Schools that feed into 6A schools.

That beacon of light seen by Hawk parent’s going home was the collective smiles of Canyon Lake Coaches who will be welcoming in a wealth of talent for the coming years.

Next school year can not get her soon enough for the sports addicts, but some of you can be excused if you want to take a couple of months off before making your trek to Canyon Lake High School

Congrats on another District Championship and Go Hawks!!

MVMS Softball Hates to Lose, Beat Canyon, 8-0

Friday, May 13th, 2016
Marley Carrizales and Maddy Puente next stop will be at Canyon Lake HS

Marley Carrizales and Maddy Puente next stop will be at Canyon Lake HS

Mountain Valley Hawks dam up Canyon to make a Lake in 8-0 victory to remain undefeated this season.

MV now has a 7-0 record going into their last game this Saturday with a chance of finishing this season with an unblemished record.

“They all hate to lose,” Head Coach Jacque Scott said lovingly. “It takes a lot of hard work in practice and they have grown as a team.”

Coach Scott continued, “They have all done a great job and by working hard they have definitely been a team thing.”

A paltry 2 hits was all Canyon could muster in this loss as Mountain Valley’s defense kept the water from spilling over as each facet of the Hawk’s game was in high gear.

Starting pitcher, Maddy Puente was on this night and helped start what would turn out to be a dominant performance as she has a chance of having her sister, Kaylee Puente as her catcher.

Hawks End Season on 2 Game Win Streak beat La Vernia, 5-4

Wednesday, April 20th, 2016
Go Hawks!

  Go Hawks!

Canyon Lake Softball got another win over a 1st place team, at La Vernia, on Tuesday, 5-4.

This was the second time in as many games that had a Hawk opponent residing at the top of the heap to find out that this ‘Last’ place club was not really that bad of a team.

That secret formula that had alluded the Hawks was unleashed as the CL scored the first 5 runs in this game to hold on for the win by one run.

This Bear team only had 4 hits going into their half of the 5th inning as Alexis Robinson was given the ball for her last start as a Hawk. This win for Robinson was her 40th in the circle at Canyon Lake finishing just one win away from Missy Romero’s final of 41 right at 4 years ago.

Robinson also controlled her walks while striking out 9 Bears in the contest.

But the game did get scary as momentum was with the Home Team in those last 3 innings.

Canyon Lake Sports start to wind down as the Hawk Softball team will playing their last game of the season on Tuesday in La Vernia.ads-300-x-600

This was a difficult year for Hawk Softball as this team had a very successful pre district record but just could not get out of the circle in district play.

What made last week win over Wimberley so satisfying was that the win was against the Texans and that would be the last district game for the next two years since Canyon Lake will moving west for their district games.

Baseball is entering into their last 3 games with one game this week in La Vernia and then an off day on Friday.

CL will have their last week of action next week when they play Yoakum away and then Senior Day with Gonzales on that Friday.

Track & Field will be in action in Liberty Hill this Thursday as the Hawks will do battle with District 25-4A Schools and our district qualifiers for a chance to compete the next week in TAMU-Kingsville.

Canyon Lake has a chance of sending several athletes this Thursday as the Hawks will need to finish in the top 2 to keep their eyes on getting to Austin.

The ReSporter added some Mountain Valley schedules for this week as you can have a chance of seeing some future CLHS Hawks compete.

Go Hawks!!

Hawk Softball: FINALLY, 4-1

Saturday, April 16th, 2016
Seniors Alexis Robinson, Kirsten Jones, and Tiare Kacir

Seniors Alexis Robinson, Kirsten Jones, and Tiare Kacir

Canyon Lake Softball got their first district win over the first place, Wimberley Texans, 4-1 on Senior Night at the Hawk Nest.

Yes, it was a long time in coming as the Hawks proved that they were not as bad as their record indicated.

“We played so well,” Head Coach John Gallagher said relieved. “We talked about what we needed to do in pre-game and they came out focused and came out and did well.”

This win had all three of the basics working on this night as the fielding, pitching and hitting combined for this long in coming victory.

Kirsten Jones went out in style in raising her batting average to .493 and a Hawk record (so far) .598 on base percentage.

Not to mention 2 more stolen bases giving her 27 for the season which would rank only behind the batter Jones bats behind, Carley Dubois.

Base/Soft Ball get Gobbled up in Cuero

Baseball and Softball get Gobbled up by the Cuero Gobblers as both games failed to reach the 7th inning.

This is a tough year for bats and balls as Baseball has won 2 games and this year’s Softball team is presently on a 10 game losing streak.

For the Hawk Baseball team you have youth out the wazoo as CL lost several Seniors last season and just were not loaded enough to keep that train on it’s track.

“We played ok, just could not get anything going offensively,” Head Baseball Coach Trent Dunavant stated. “We put the ball in play, just could not square anything up…so give them credit for getting the job done offensively.”

Canyon Lake’s Baseball has gone two games without a run as finding the right combination for batting is a hit and miss. (pardon the pun)

Gavin Dietrich took the loss as Cuero continues fighting for one of those precious play-off spots.
