Bracken Christian Warriors have all their ducks in a row as TAPPS has realigned BCS into a new district and this year’s schedule has been set.

“Four of the top six teams will be coming from our district,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “OLH has everyone coming back and Castle Hills was the Division II State Champ last season.”

Bracken has been playing these past few years with 12-14 players on the sideline when other same division schools might have over 20 suited up and not playing.

Those type of numbers in 6-Man will always give the advantage to the larger school.

Canyon Lake’s Softball team was in discovery mode last Saturday as they opened their year.

Sophomore Pitcher Alexis Robinson

The Hawks played three games on Saturday in New Braunfels Canyon High School.

Wins and losses are not what coaches are looking for during these skirmishes, but looking for hidden jewels and seeing how much work and the specific type of work needs to be done to ready a team for the season is a top priority.

After asking how Alexis Robinson pitched, Head Coach John Gallagher surmised, “Pretty good, she threw about seven innings overall and had three strikeouts. We used two different catchers so she did not throw a lot of different pitches.”

Canyon Lake will be thin in that pitching circle again this year and so how Robinson goes will also let you know how the Hawks will fair this year.

Canyon Lake will be resetting their GPS as another realignment has been set.

Hawk Football team add Liberty Hill and Taylor. Subtract Wimberley and Navarro as District foes.

The first item you will notice is another ‘A’ being added to the Hawks classification. Since the school has started competing in sports six years ago, CL was in the AAA class and now will be competing in District 26-AAAA, but that will not mean different sizes of schools.

This year the UIL had all of the 6-Man football teams move into the Class A Division and that was the reason for moving all other Classifications up from AAA to AAAA.

Canyon Lake’s Baseball team will be ramping practice up as the Hawks look for a chance of

improving their district standings with several returning starters.

Two years ago, Canyon Lake finished last in district when the team had to borrow players anywhere they could in fielding a team to finish a season.

That will not happen this year as the Hawks have several returning players and will be bringing a decent JV club up as well.

Missy Romero will be entering her 2nd year of competition for Copiah-Lincoln

Community College and had a very productive season.

Romero has now been selected for a Who’s Who award.

WHO’S WHO – Melissa Romero of Canyon Lake is among the 105 outstanding sophomores on Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s (Miss.) Wesson Campus selected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges for 2013-2014. Selection is based upon leadership, scholarship, character, and the potential for success upon graduation. Each recipient will be featured in the annual volume, which covers all 50 states and all U.S. territories. Students enrolled full-time in two-year programs are eligible for consideration. A local committee composed of administrators, staff, and faculty made the final recommendations to the editors of Who’s Who. Melissa is a member of the Lady Wolves Softball Team and is the daughter of Theresa and Bobby Romero of Canyon Lake.

Softball will be in full swing as the 2014 season fast approaches.

The first official practice started last Saturday as newcomers and oldies all were out wanting to see what this year might have in store.

“I was very pleased this week in seeing who came out,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “The talent that showed up today was very encouraging.”

When asked what type of talent was seen, Coach Gallagher was forthcoming, “Overall athleticism, we have girls who can play that I did not see a month ago.”

The Hawks will have a four team scrimmage at Canyon High School on February 1st and then a home game scrimmage on Friday, February 7th with Harper.
