 Honorable Mention
Sam Hilgendorf Quarterback Mason Anthony Defensive Back
 Daniel Forgione Running Back

Coach Lloyd Fields fielded his thoughts on each player:

Jeff Camp: “We knew nothing about Jeff back in August when we got out our pads and he was big for us and our

program.”

John Colby: “John did a great job at linebacker as he had to replace an all everything player (Eli Achilles), he stepped into the job and handled it well.”

Davis Scott: “This was Davis’ third year and he was the ultimate team player as he changed positions five times and never complained…he did whatever was asked of him.”

Noah Boriack: “Boriack was our offense…these are units and this was the best offensive line we have had at BCS in the past six years…but Noah was a warrior and gave his all for the team. He could of been a first team defensive player for us, but he was too valuable for us on offense to play defense enough to get that award.”

Preston Koch: “Preston had a good career at Bracken and was the only starter that played on our State Championship Team three years ago from this group of Seniors.”

Coy Zunker Second Team Defensive Back

Coy Zunker Second Team Defensive Back

Sam Hilgendorf: “He was a competitor and team was always first and me second. Sam was the kind of guy you had to have to have a successful football team.”

Coy Zunker: “He would of made first team if it were not for his injury. Coy helped and played with a bad knee after the start of the year.”

Daniel Forgione: “Daniel is a guy who will get better and better, this year was his starting point.”

Mason Anthony: “Mason came in last year after losing several players to injury and he was a trooper when we needed him.”

2013 Hawk Football Recap

Hawks taking in their Win over Pleasanton in first round of playoffs

The ReSporter would like to take a look at this past football campaign as well as gazing into the future and into next season.

Canyon Lake matched the 2010 team when that club also climbed into the second round of playoff games.

Both years had a Hawk team needing to find themselves as each season they were coming into a district race with a losing record.

Both teams also lost their first district game, it was even worse for this year’s squad, as the Hawks went into District 27-3A games winless.

Canyon Lake had installed a new offense this year and there were some growing pains as the year advanced and with each loss there would be more questions.

Hawk Football: What’s For Dessert?

Friday, November 15th, 2013

Is the drought over for Canyon Lake as this football team plays in their first Bi-District tussle tonight against Pleasanton in San Antonio since playing Burnet three years ago?

Hawks getting Defensive

Hawks getting Defensive

As many of Hawk fans know, one rain does not end a drought, but the Hawk Ladies also were able to jump this same playoff bar in Soccer howbeit in a 4A classification last Spring.

Another facet, with this being a year where UIL ruled that four teams per district would be eligible for qualifying for extra games.

Based on that statement, Canyon Lake would of had just one team qualify last year if that same criteria of having four teams qualify.

What sport? Football was that sport as all of last year’s programs finished in the 5th or 6th spot in their respective beauty contest while CL’s football team did finish in fourth place.

Point Hawks!!

Last week the Canyon Lake community lost another icon when Scott Watson passed away.

Remembering the first encounter with Scott, The ReSporter was then The Hilltop Reporter.

While working on the sports page, Scott, called and wanted to know why The Hilltop Reporter would put the word, Lady, to describe the Hawks when writing a Volleyball headline.

Scott, quite frankly wanted us to know that he would rather that phrase be done in another way.

That conversation was over five years ago and from that one encounter, The Hilltop Reporter had found a friend.

Key Plays in Canyon Lake’s Victory over Boerne

The Hawks had a game that will rank right up there with the Sealy game two years ago in excitement, as CL wrestled and fought for a nine point win last week after being down 22 points with 5:40 left in the third quarter.

There were many highlights and The ReSporter will replay some of those key plays from this victory.

1. After a long Canyon Lake first drive and no points ending with an interception, Boerne was poised to take a 14 point lead.
