Running Back Karl Weidner gets yardage on first scoring drive.

The Canyon Lake Hawks Junior Varsity improved their record to 2-0 after making the game much more entertaining than the fans were wanting. The Hawks held on for a 18-14 victory in their first home game. The balanced attack of the Hawks kept the visiting Bears guessing all night long.

On CL’s second possession the Hawks drove 64 yards on just five plays. The drive had three runs from Karl Weidner for 18 yards. The runs set up two pass plays to Isaiah Gutierrez for 46 yards and the first score.

The next Canyon Lake drive finished on the Bear’s six yard line, but the home team could not capitalize on the Bear’s fumble on their 35 yard line. The red zone was not good to the Hawks with an incomplete pass from the six yard line went awry.

This time last week the two coaching staffs from Canyon Lake and Blanco had something in common. They were both preparing to play a team that had not played a game yet.

This week the CL Coaches are preparing to play a team that has not played a game yet. Last week La Vernia had a bye week while almost every other team in the State of Texas were starting their seasons.

Coaches Corner with Lloyd Fields for BCS

The Bracken Warriors will be playing there second game of the season on a Saturday this week and the opponent has a winning streak of 15, the same as Warriors.

Emery-Weiner is a different type of school, in that, they have a lot of students…but they prefer to play 6-man football instead of 11-man. The result of that decision means the Houston school does not get to participate in any of the districts because there size would give them an unfair advantage.

“They are huge,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “There number 25 reminds me of Marshall Walker from Kerrville OLH team.”

Cornerstone Victory for CLHS 25-14, 26-24, 25-17

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

The Canyon Lake Hawks started strong and kept up the pressure as they succumbed the Cornerstone Warriors, Tuesday night at the Hawk gym.

The season has had a hard time getting started for the Hawks, so hopefully this victory can be a cornerstone win for Canyon Lake.

“We are still trying things,” Head Coach Nicole Creek said. “We are still looking for consistency and chemistry from the team.”

The Hawks certainly had those attributes on display in the first game, as it only took one rotation plus three for CL to win going away, 25-14. Canyon Lake had six aces in the first game.

in the playoffs in the next couple of months. The depth and conditioning finally gave the Warriors the separation needed for a hard fought win at the Warrior Field last Friday night.

Bracken amassed the most yards in the short history of the school with 583 total yards. The rushing and passing totals ranked second in both categories and by looking at the outcome, every yard was needed.

BCS entered the fourth quarter with a slim four point lead as the Knights had closed the halftime deficit by eight points. (more…)

Greatness!!!

One of the greatest things about me being out on the field as an official is that I get to relive some of the past feelings, emotions, and memories of my own past football career.  I love the feel of it!  The smell of it! The way the ball bounces, the blow of the whistle, and the sound of pads hitting together.  It takes me back to so many thoughts and experiences as a player.  Man I love this game!

I get a chance to play, ah excuse me, officiate football and make all of this become some of the greatest times I have ever had on the football field.  One thing that I had forgotten is how it feels to be a part of a team.  I see out on the field, young men working together to put together all the plans they have been working on throughout the weeks practices, how they listen to their coaches, and the way they lead one another through difficult situations on the field.

Bracken Christian Warriors start defending their State Championship Trophy this evening and the ReSporter would like to spend some time with Head Coach Lloyd Fields each Friday before the game to give fans some nuggets.

“We are going to battle this evening,” Coach Fields started the conversation. “We are without two of our starters and Hill Country will coming in ready to play.”

Canyon Lake JV Beat Blanco, 22-8

The football season has officially started and Canyon Lake took care of Blanco

Panthers last Thursday night at the Blanco stadium.

The game mirrored much of the same kinks that the ReSporter had encountered.

The schedule stated a start time of 7pm and yet by the time the ReSporter’s car drove up to the parking lot, the game was deep into the second quarter of the game.

The Hawks also made some great strides on second half drives only to see a missed handoff here, a snap miss the hands of the quarterback there, and the blade of grass catching the receiver for a take down before a catch that would of been to the house.

Volleyball: BCS get Signature Win

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

The climb up the mountain just had an extra boost for the young but talented BCS Volleyball team last Tuesday night at SACS.

The Lions are certainly a couple of classes ahead of the team from Bulverde, but the result was a true confidence builder.

The Warriors had just had a disappointing showing at the Geneva Tournament. The simple fact that Payton Stanush the libero for the team was at her sister’s wedding might have had a decent reason for the showing.

One of the happenings as a result of Stanush not being in attendance would be the rest of the team playing through the missing link and using that for an improvement when the team would be at full strength again.
