This Week @ Canyon Lake
Sunday, April 3rd, 2016Coaches Corner with Boys Track, Troy Moses
Thursday, March 31st, 2016The ReSporter: Right now you are in the midst of figuring out a chess match. What is the biggest challenge as you enter the names for next week’s Meet?
Coach Moses: “This is a unique year, just because we have so many talented young men. The biggest challenge is not knowing what the other schools are going to do!!!! There are so many different scenarios. We just have to go with what we feel will help us get as many points as possible.”
The ReSporter: The scrimmage yesterday hopefully answered some questions for what happens next week, can you give us some idea of how closer you are to figuring out how you will run the Relays vs. Open Events?
Coach Moses: “Our number one goal is to win the Team Championship!! We look to score big points in Open Events first, then place people in relays.” (more…)
Coaches Corner with Girl’s Track, John Barthels
Thursday, March 31st, 2016The ReSporter: This is when you earn the Big Bucks, how hard is it in putting the athletes with the events?
Coach Barthels: “This is the time that we take each girl’s strengths and put them in events that can keep as many girls continuing to the area meet as possible.”
The ReSporter: How do you differentiate between running as an individual vs. putting that person on a relay team?
Coach Barthels: “Everyone wants to win the relays, I am guilty as well, but when you look at numbers and points it gets dicey. Four of your fastest girls can get a total of 20 points on a relay, If you were to use those girls in individual events and could place 1-4 that is worth 28 points…not that you could do that, but it is something I consider when putting girls in events for district. We compare times and combinations of girls that have run the relays and figure which girls can A. Get the points you need and B. Place in the top 4 spots to move on to the next meet. So I have a lot of work to do between now and Sunday when our entries are due.” (more…)
Varsity Track Boys and Girls Wim Wimberley Track Meet
Tuesday, March 29th, 2016Canyon Lake Varsity Boys and Girls both were wimmers last Thursday after traveling across the Devil’s Backbone to Wimberley and the Texan Relays.
The Hawks are poised to have their best Track Season as they embark on District 26-4A next week in Cuero.
CL will travel to Dripping Springs tomorrow to get a final idea of how they will go into the fires and bring home two championships next week.
This meet had Navarro and Wimberley in attendance and winning became more of a moral boost.
Navarro Boy’s have had the best 4×400 meter relay team this year and that last race had the Hawks Flying over the Panthers to take first place while the Girls had a 3 second improvement on their 4×400 meter relay event giving them a second place finish.
Junior Varsity Track Finish 2nd at Texan Relays
Tuesday, March 29th, 2016Canyon Lake’s Boys and Girls Junior Varsity finished 2nd in last week’s Texan Relays.
The Boys finished with 153 points and the Hawk Ladies had 125 points in their events.
Caimen McDonough continues to impress as he scored 42 points after scoring in all 5 events.
McDonough had 3 first place finishes and 2 second place trophies, he is averaging 33 points per track meet. That was with an 8 point total in the Hawk Relays which was the first one of this year.
This was McDonough second meet with a 42 point total.
Trenton Lorett was next with 21 points as Kenneth Jowers (13), Chance Martelli (12), and Nolan Davila (10) also ended the day in double figures.

District 26-4A Boys & Girls Track Bests
Saturday, March 26th, 2016The ReSporter has incomplete numbers as we still wait for Canyon Lake’s results from their Texan’s Relays.
Those times and distances below have the date that those events happened for those individuals.
Note that you don’t know how the conditions might have been for those results and we also do not know if their are injury problems for any of the athletes.
The ReSporter has CL’s Junior Varsity on the list below where that will not be the case for those other schools.

This week the big game will be Boys Soccer taking place in Wimberley on Monday.
If the Hawks can win then they will clinch their first playoff as they will have the tie breaker over the Texans after a 2-2 game in the first round.
CL came within one goal in their last week’s game with District 28-4A Champion Fredericksburg and will now have their eyes set on this game with our neighbors to the North.
The Hawk ladies clinched 4th place last week and will now be getting ready for another year of playoffs. Congrats Lady Hawks!!
Baseball and Softball have fallen on hard times as both of these sports lost district games.
The Baseball team was in their first week of district contests while the Softball team have now gone two weeks of district competition without a win.
It is still early for both teams as this will be an important week for Softball as they will end their first round of games and will need to switch the on button on to start climbing to get into playoff contention.
All of those losses for the girls have had 3 games coming up just 1 run short while the other game against Cuero was decided by 2 runs.
Close but no cigar. (That statement is for President Obama’s Cuba trip this week.)
Track and Field, Golf, and Tennis will get back into action after enjoying their spring break.
A lot of games are on the road this week but a short drive to Wimberley would get you back to speed with your favorite Hawk team.
Go Hawks!!
Track: Canyon Lake Boys will be in Wimberley on Thursday, 24th
Saturday, March 19th, 2016Canyon Lake will come back from Spring Break this week and this year’s track team for both the boys and girls has some potential to make some noise as those last weeks approach before District 26-4A Meet, April 6-7.
Last year, CL’s, dash events did not present a lot of opportunities for scoring. Joseph Ruiz had the best 100 meter dash coming in with a 11.58 time.
That result was the 11th best at the end of last year’s meets.
Taking a look at this season will give you an idea of how Canyon Lake has improved in this one event.
Varsity Boys & Girls Track Finish 2nd in Bandera’s Meet
Thursday, March 10th, 2016Canyon Lake Varsity finished 2nd in the Bandera Track Meet in both the Girls and Boys team.
It was a decent night but when the Hawks finish second then that will make it a longer ride home as this group of students are getting hungry for wins.
Haden Lee was the high point for the Hawks as this Senior scored in the Jumps, Dash, Relay, and Throwing events.
Lee needs to be fed at a cafeteria as he wants to fill his trey with several different types of food.
