Canyon Lake’s Volleyball team won their first game on Thursday night as they took it to the Alumni Team.

After opening with a hard fought loss in the first game, the more fresher players were able to take the next two games and put the Alumni team to bed.

One thing you can notice with this team is that Senior Trena Lorett is very serious no matter who she is playing.

Her intense look on the court was intense.

Lorett had her serve down and served notice that this just not any game.

“I’m hoping with a new coach and a lot of new players that we can get to the playoffs this year,” Lorett surmised.

CL Volleyball Will be Consistent This Season

Sunday, August 4th, 2013

New Volleyball Head Coach Kimberley Paisley will make sure you understand

Head Volleyball Coach Kimberley Paisley

Head Volleyball Coach Kimberley Paisley

one thing when you watch her team play.

That team will at least be ‘Consistent’.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary would state: (a) marked by harmony, regularity, or steady continuity : free from variation or contradiction. (b) marked by agreement : compatible…

Coach Paisley grew up in Wimberley and played on two Volleyball teams that made it to the Final Four with a State Championship resulting for one of those campaigns.

We are not finished as Paisley also played on two basketball teams that also made it to a Final Four and was beaten both times in the semi final game.

Coach Paisley played Volleyball for Kingsville in college and had a major in Biology.

She then proceeded to Alice and started her Coaching career for her first four years.

Alice was also just starting a Volleyball program and finished last to being just one spot from making the playoffs her final season.

Paisley then moved north to Smithville for three years where she inherited a team that was 0-10 in district play to playoffs for the first time in 20 years.

Each move has allowed Paisley to get closer to Wimberley where her Dad still lives.

“I was ready to get here,” Coach Paisley said excitedly. “I was excited.”

Canyon Lake’s Motivational Tool

Sunday, August 4th, 2013

The ReSporter has tabulated this past season in District 27-3A team sports by school and as

Daniel Camarillo handing off to Doug Hubnik during the heyday for Boy's Track and Field

Daniel Camarillo handing off to Doug Hubnik during the heyday for Boy’s Track and Field

you can see last season was not a banner year for Canyon Lake.

If a school finished first then they garnered 1 point and if a school finished last, then they would accumulate 6 points.

So the school with the least amount of points would be the goal.

Canyon Lake is still looking for their first District 27-3A Title in any sport as their best finish is still a second place finish in their history. (Baseball ’10, Softball ’11, Boys Track ’11 and ’12)

This year the top four teams will be able to punch their ticket for a post season berth and if you used that same criteria for last year, then you will see that your Hawks would of only qualified in one team sport.

Football would of been that sport to qualify for a playoff if this new rule would of been in place.

In all the other team sports your Canyon Lake Hawks best finish was fifth place.

Last season in a word was not a banner year and as this new school season approaches, CLHS will have many opportunities to improve on that record.

The ReSporter Needs its Ads to Keep ADding Up!!

Saturday, May 11th, 2013

The ReSporter is now in its fourth year of covering Canyon Lake and Bracken Christian schools. The ReSporter has just finished it’s 1,043rd article and has also had 62,039 visits and 162,238 pages read as of February 5, 2014 stats.

As you know, this site is free for those who would like to frequent these pages after a sporting event. The ReSporter would like to introduce you to a new ‘Ad’ that was added about 10 days ago.

First off, do know that many of the advertisers on this site services The ReSporter’s household and there is a great deal of comfort in knowing that these Companies and people would treat you as well as I am treated by their services.

The ReSporter needs the audience that relies on this coverage to help out by telling these companies/people that you saw their ‘Ad’ on this site.

That way The ReSporter can keep up this coverage as the fall season looms right around the corner.

The money that is raised through our Advertisers goes to gas money, cost for maintenance for this site, and hopefully enough to put away for just cost of living increases.

If this is not realized, then there is a chance that The ReSporter might close shop before the start of next school year.

Just making it known that letting the Advertisers know that they are seen on this site will certainly help with getting, by word of mouth, other companies to also think about advertising with The ReSporter.

Food That Might Need a Firefighter

Jerry Besselman has been a face that many fans have seen at any Hawk Sporting event that would involve refreshing your tastes.

The ReSporter went on a search to find someone that might have been to more games and events that wasn’t a player or Coach. Besselman fit that bill as the man behind the counter where you will find liquids or food to keep that Hawk fan strong enough to end the game and yelling on their Hawk team flavor of that event.

The ReSporter had an opportunity to get with Besselman at the end of a Hawk Softball game for a formal introduction to you the fan.

The ReSporter: Hey Jerry are you having fun?

Jerry Besselman: “Yes, I get to be around students and they all know my name.”

The ReSporter: Do they know you as Jerry or Besselman?

Jerry Besselman: “There was a time when Coach Nicole Creek needed to get a hold of me to change a time of a game or something like that and she was wanting to look up my phone number. She could not find me because she knew me by my first name. So yes, I’m thinking most of the students and teachers just know me by my first name.”

Volleyball: Looking at Next Year

Monday, May 6th, 2013

The ReSporter will be running several articles through the month of May on

Amber Ramsey during her Sophomore campaign

athletes from each sport from two perspectives.

1. The all-time student athlete in that sport from a performance stand point. Do note that this would be just an opinion from the ReSporter Staff.

2. A spotlight player that The ReSporter thinks will be the athlete to watch as this next year will unfold.

This series will start with Fall Sports.

Please also note that The ReSporter does not have an opportunity to see every sport and will not have an article if that is the case.

Certainly comment on the articles and give us your opinion on other students or the ones talked about in each segment.

The ReSporter will only allow positive inputs as this will be the only type of conversation needed.

Volleyball will be The ReSporter’s first go of previewing next year’s teams.

The Hawk Volleyball team has had two years of playoffs and this is also where The ReSporter thinks you could pick that special all-time player.

Michelle Roberts, Ashley Biering, Alyssa Drum, and Jessica Watson were all part of those first team rosters and all could very well be that one person that had the most influence for Canyon Lake’s teams.

Katie Williams Signs for One College will play Two Sports

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

Katie Williams and Jordan Anderson have had stellar careers at Canyon Lake High

Katie Williams signing on with Dallas Christian College with Ray and Karen Williams looking on.

School these past four years and now embark on their next quest as both of these students have signed on for playing their sports in College.

Katie Williams will be going to Dallas Christian College (DCC) and will be playing two sports when she reports the end of the Summer to her new home.

Williams was seen at a Volleyball event earlier this year when DCC noticed and started to show interest.

A few weeks later, conversation morphed to Basketball and soon Williams would be asked to help the Crusaders in Basketball also.

Not very many athletes have the opportunity to play in two sports when reaching the next plateau in education, but Williams will have that opportunity.

“I’m excited but kind of nervous,” 2 Sport Williams started. “Their Coaches were so nice and I had tryouts in early March and I liked the small school atmosphere.”

Final Coaches Corner with Volleyball’s Nicole Creek

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

The Resporter: Disappointing year for the Team, what

Head Volleyball Coach Nicole Creek

goals were reached during this season for these girls?

Coach Creek: “We were successful early on with some wins at tournaments, before this season we never brought home any hardware from tourneys.”

The ReSporter: Tell us about your Seniors and how they impacted your team?

Coach Creek: “Seniors worked hard all year. They came together in the Summer and worked with me to create some of the expectations we had for all the teams this season. They were instrumental in getting the girls involved in Summer League and there almost every week. They were a great group of girls to work with and for the younger girls to look up to.”

The ReSporter: The ReSporter noticed that this group of girls did more during the off/season than pervious classes, can you give us an idea of what impact that had on your season?

Coach Creek: “I think the more they stay involved the better off we will be as a group and I think it showed this year. Despite us not going to the playoffs we still competed with everyone in a very tough district. This was a direct result of their efforts in the off season.”

Hawks Lose Final to Navarro in District 27-3A

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

Canyon Lake Hawk’s Volleyball finished their season splitting their last two games with Bandera and Navarro. Both games were played at Hawk Gym with the finale last Tuesday night.

The Hawks had five Seniors on the court for their last game.

Cassidy Riccio, Logan Nease, Marisa Ellis, Reanna Wagliardo, and Katie Williams played with a lot of heart but still could not get that last win against Navarro.

At first, CL did not come out of their doldrums until the second game of this match.

After a 25-13 loss to the Panthers in the first game, Canyon Lake responded by winning their next game by that same score.

In that game, CL was dominant. The Hawks were everywhere on the court and controlled this game from their service to their kills and everything in-between.

Junior Amber Ramsey had seven kills in this game while Katie Williams (4) and Logan Nease (3) were just as lethal.
