BCS Wins Big over Waldorf, 25-12, 23-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-10

Friday, September 30th, 2011

It was an epic battle, as the Bracken Christian Volleyball team held off Waldorf in a five game set on Friday night.

The win was important, since the Waldorf team was undefeated in district play.

Now BCS finds themselves with the same number of losses and a chance to forge into a tie with a victory Saturday against Kerrville OLH.

OLH was the only loss for the Warriors through the first round of district play.

BCS started the set on fire as they lapped the Waldorf team. With the score 11-9, Becky Korkosz and Briana Martinez served the team with a 12 point rally and winning the game by 13 points, 25-12.

Every time during the game, Korkosz was able to send her serve exactly where Coach Shaunna Teuton was instructing.

Canyon Lake would be a wild ride at the rodeo this season. The Hawks won another needed game over the Hawkins Wolfpack, Tuesday, 25-10, 25-8, and 25-4.

San Antonio Hawkins is not a team that will scare many teams this year so the victory was expected, the key to games like this would be the focus and how the team took care of business.

Volleyball: BCS Passes by Austin Hill Country

Monday, September 19th, 2011

The Bracken Volleyball team used a good passing game to overcome the Knights of Austin Hill Country, 25-23, 25-14, and 25-19.

The game started like it would be a give and take series, but the Warriors stated clicking and the Knights just could not keep up.

“We had great ball control on defense,” Head Coach Shaunna Teuton said. “The team was helping each other and did not let down.”

This time Coach Teuton was stating the obvious. The Warriors did not have any one girl dominate, Bracken was playing like the ‘Borg’ on Star Trek the Next Generation, as the collective.

Volleyball: BCS evens District Record, Beats Summit 3-0

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Bracken Christian dug deep and left Summit grasping for air in the three game sweep of their District foe, winning 25-6, 25-2, and 25-10.

The game evened the record for the Warriors after losing in four games to OLH earlier this week in Kerrville.

The Warriors were at the door step against OLH, but never knocked on the door and finish the game. BCS had a 21-10 lead and could not finish.

It happened again in the second game when the Warriors were rolling along with an eight point lead with the same result.

Volleyball: Hawks Win Must Game, Beat Boerne

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

The hard fought game against the Boerne Greyhounds keeps the Hawks in good position for the district run. Canyon Lake won the match in four games, 25-17 ,18 -25, 25-22 and 26-24.

The Hawks came out on fire when they jumped out to a 13-6 lead after a rally off of Marisa Ellis serves. The tight game was not tight the rest of the game.

Canyon Lake enjoyed ten point leads throughout the game, finishing 25-17.

Kendall Felps was very instrumental in the victory setting the stage for the contest.

“Losing was not an option,” the Junior Outside Hitter Felps admonished. “This was an exciting game and we need to build up wins.”

The CLHS Volleyball team will start the District games this Friday     and The ReSporter wants to see where Coach Nicole Creek is with the team for the game this Friday at the Hawk gym.

ReSporter: How do you plan to see the team that swept Llano after the first game was played?

Coach Creek: “I hope that the girls see for themselves that they have to jump up early on teams, especially at home and have energy and enthusiasm from the beginning. I think they see this now.”

Canyon Lake Volleyball team overcame first game jitters and won the last three games to win the match against Llano at Hawk gym.

The games would give you the idea that Llano would be the dominant team, 19-25, 26-24, 25-21, and 25-19.

The Hawks could not get out of the daze they were in to start the game and only had one rally of four points. The problem was the rally was on their last serve after being down 15-24.

Cornerstone Victory for CLHS 25-14, 26-24, 25-17

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

The Canyon Lake Hawks started strong and kept up the pressure as they succumbed the Cornerstone Warriors, Tuesday night at the Hawk gym.

The season has had a hard time getting started for the Hawks, so hopefully this victory can be a cornerstone win for Canyon Lake.

“We are still trying things,” Head Coach Nicole Creek said. “We are still looking for consistency and chemistry from the team.”

The Hawks certainly had those attributes on display in the first game, as it only took one rotation plus three for CL to win going away, 25-14. Canyon Lake had six aces in the first game.

Volleyball: BCS get Signature Win

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

The climb up the mountain just had an extra boost for the young but talented BCS Volleyball team last Tuesday night at SACS.

The Lions are certainly a couple of classes ahead of the team from Bulverde, but the result was a true confidence builder.

The Warriors had just had a disappointing showing at the Geneva Tournament. The simple fact that Payton Stanush the libero for the team was at her sister’s wedding might have had a decent reason for the showing.

One of the happenings as a result of Stanush not being in attendance would be the rest of the team playing through the missing link and using that for an improvement when the team would be at full strength again.

CL loses to Mikesky Sisters otherwise known as Schulenburg

Friday, August 19th, 2011

The Canyon Lake Hawks ran into a Mikesky (other synonym ‘Buzz Saw’) last Friday night at the Hawk gym, 14-25, 20-25, and 17-25.

The Mikesky sisters dominated the night in every statistical category but blocks in the game. The older sister will be heading to play at Florida University next year and the younger sister is just a freshman.

“She (L. Mikesky) was a hitter,” middle hitter Katie Williams said. “She had a big arm.”

Williams was inspired by the competition and played one of her best games of the season.
