Cornerstone Victory for CLHS 25-14, 26-24, 25-17

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

The Canyon Lake Hawks started strong and kept up the pressure as they succumbed the Cornerstone Warriors, Tuesday night at the Hawk gym.

The season has had a hard time getting started for the Hawks, so hopefully this victory can be a cornerstone win for Canyon Lake.

“We are still trying things,” Head Coach Nicole Creek said. “We are still looking for consistency and chemistry from the team.”

The Hawks certainly had those attributes on display in the first game, as it only took one rotation plus three for CL to win going away, 25-14. Canyon Lake had six aces in the first game.

Volleyball: BCS get Signature Win

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

The climb up the mountain just had an extra boost for the young but talented BCS Volleyball team last Tuesday night at SACS.

The Lions are certainly a couple of classes ahead of the team from Bulverde, but the result was a true confidence builder.

The Warriors had just had a disappointing showing at the Geneva Tournament. The simple fact that Payton Stanush the libero for the team was at her sister’s wedding might have had a decent reason for the showing.

One of the happenings as a result of Stanush not being in attendance would be the rest of the team playing through the missing link and using that for an improvement when the team would be at full strength again.

CL loses to Mikesky Sisters otherwise known as Schulenburg

Friday, August 19th, 2011

The Canyon Lake Hawks ran into a Mikesky (other synonym ‘Buzz Saw’) last Friday night at the Hawk gym, 14-25, 20-25, and 17-25.

The Mikesky sisters dominated the night in every statistical category but blocks in the game. The older sister will be heading to play at Florida University next year and the younger sister is just a freshman.

“She (L. Mikesky) was a hitter,” middle hitter Katie Williams said. “She had a big arm.”

Williams was inspired by the competition and played one of her best games of the season.

BCS Volleyball continues to see progress in Win

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

The Bracken Christian Warriors Volleyball team continued their climb for a successful season as they beat San Marcos Hill Country Rams, 25-20, 25-18, and 25-15, last Tuesday night at the Warriors gym.

The Warriors continue to improve as the passing and rotation of the players has started to settle in.

“We (BCS) are swinging and playing really aggressive,” Head Coach Shaunna Teuton said. “The team is getting confident, we have the chance to be really strong this year and we have a chance to do something good.”

BCS Volleyball takes Rock out of the Arch

Friday, August 12th, 2011

The Bracken Christian were successful in taking the keystone out of the arch for the eventual fall, as the Warriors beat Keystone, 25-12, 25-14, 25-11.

BCS was ahead 7-6 when the stone was taken away in the first game, as the Warriors scored 18-6 finish for the convincing win.

“I want the girls to always finish no matter what,” Head Coach Shaunna Teuton said. “But, we have plenty to work on.”

Always leave it to the Coach to throw some water on the party to give the players more room to grow and mature as the season progresses.

BCS wins in 5 over TMI San Antonio

Friday, August 12th, 2011

Bracken Christian finally finished and persevered over the Panthers of TMI, 25-21, 23-25, 26-28, 25-23, 15-10.

The Warriors played with the lead in each game but had problems finishing two of the games after being in the lead. The fact the Warriors reached the 23 point plateau usually meant that they had hit a road block.

“We just have to push to the finish,” Head Coach Shaunna Teuton said. “In practice we tell them they have to finish and we do harder drills that will give them more aggressiveness and intensity.”

The good news is that the CL Hawks beat Liberty Hill.
The better news is that the Hawks are not in Cedar Ridge’s District

Canyon Lake started their Volleyball season with a nail biter win over Liberty Hill last Tuesday night at the Hawk Gym.

The Hawks had lost a ton of talent from last year’s team, but seem to have a group of girls that want to help the crowd forget the past and forge into the future.                                                                                         (more…)

The Bracken Christian Warriors started their season with a loss to Round Rock Crusaders at the Warrior gym, Monday night August 8th.

BCS finished the season last year by rallying the troops and making the playoffs with a very young team and some of that youth was still present in the opening game.

“We are still working out the kinks,” Head Coach Shaunna Teuton said. “We have a lot of girls back and we had a little learning curve tonight.”

The Canyon Lake Volleyball season is right around the corner as the girls have played some stiff competition.

“We worked hard last week,” Head Volleyball Coach Nicole Creek said. “For the most part the team is in shape.”

The Hawks finished off the Lehman Loboes in the Saturday scrimmage, but not after having a lethargic start to the games.

The Canyon Lake Volleyball team will soon be back on the court, preparing for another run in district play.

This will be the fourth year of varsity competition and the Hawks have a streak of two year running in the playoffs. The Volleyball team was the first team sport to qualify for the playoffs two years ago and the breakthrough broke the dam at Canyon Lake, with several teams now putting up their skins on the walls.
