Canyon Lake fell off the truck in the 3rd quarter in their loss to Fredericksburg on Friday night at the Hawk Nest, 64-49.

Hawk Baseball is Next on the Spring Sports Calendar

Friday, February 3rd, 2017

Gavin Dietrich is ready to get Baseball Going!!

Canyon Lake’s Baseball team has not had many good year’s, record wise, since their trip to the playoffs during the 2010 season.

That team was the first Hawk team to win a first round in the playoffs and that group of players were also able to give a scare to their next opponent in taking that series in 3 games.

Back in those days, the Hawks, had some good pitching and timely hitting that allowed a chance of making noise in the playoffs.

The Hawks Boys Soccer team continues to share the wealth and show some strong play for their games leading up to district as CL ran away from San Marcos Academy, 8-0.

“One thing I have stressed to the boys this year is that in life as in soccer, if you want something you have to earn it,” Head Coach Warren Graham said. “We have to go out every night and earn the other team’s respect. We have to earn the right to play past Spring Break and so far the boys are doing just that.”

“We played hard and I am pleased with our effort,” Head Coach Zach Burleson said. “I told the girls that they make me proud to be a part of Canyon Lake….game wise, we just were not able to convert enough on the offensive end.”

The Hawks did have another good game in holding Hondo to 47 points which gave CL a good chance for a comeback in the 4th quarter.

Hondo had been held to this low in scoring points 5 games this season and did bring the Owls to 15 points lower than their previous outing in an earlier have this year.

Canyon Lake (15-12) wins their first road game since the Christmas Break opening a nice, 55-45 present at Hondo this past Tuesday.

“I thought we did good as we grinded out a tough win against a desperate team,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman assessed. “Defensively we really locked in and played well.”

CL held the Owl’s leading scorer to pedestrian numbers helping the Hawks to keep a comfortable lead.

“Our focus was stopping their point guard,” Coach Chapman said. “He averages about 15 points a game, and we held him to 5 point and that came at late in the game.”

The Hawks finished with 3 players getting to double figures but the other players were as cold as ice totaling 4 points as reinforcements did not get back in time to save this Hawk Team.

Coaches Hot Box with Softball’s John Gallagher

Sunday, January 29th, 2017

Softball’s Coach John Gallagher

The ReSporter: What can you tell us about the team as the time nears?

Coach Gallagher: “Since starting last week everyone has worked very hard and continues to get better and learn. We have some girls working to get noticed and their efforts have been admirable. Our returners are looking good and are getting into a groove both on offense and defense.

The ReSporter: Will you have enough for two teams this year?

Coach Gallagher: “Our numbers right now are good but not everyone is out because of basketball and swimming. We are hoping to get even more out this week.”

The ReSporter: The defense was your achilles heal last season, what can you tell us about that part of your team?

Coach Gallagher: “Defensively I see a stronger and deeper team. We have some options to work with at several positions which is always nice. The outfielders have some strong and accurate arms and I am very happy with their play so far. The infielders are very competitive and showing some very athletic skills.” (more…)
