The Volleyball Sub-Varsity Teams did their patented sweep again as there was no prisoners taken as both the JV and Freshman
took care of their matches in short order.
That was a good thing as the crowd would not know the Varsity would inject some drama with their match by going 5 games later that evening.
The Hawk Freshman team was first, winning with a methodical, 25-14 and 25-08 score.

Faith Hasness is tops with 20 kills in win over Marion
Canyon Lake’s Volleyball team had a scare on Tuesday night with the Marion Bulldogs pulling off a 5 game set in winning 3-2.
The Hawks (16-8) ran out to a comfortable first set win, 25-11 but that pillow lost it’s softness as Marion started playing better and
causing CL to start sleeping on rocks.
Digging holes is another analogy that works since the Hawks were fighting from behind for most of the night.
CL’s largest lead in that first set ballooned up to 12 points a couple of times before the Hawks put the Bulldogs away, 25-11.
The largest lead in the second set happened near the end when Marion methodically played with resolve to a 5 point lead, 22-17 leaving CL in desperation mode.
Canyon Lake has not only been fed some stellar athletes for the boys, but the girls these past few years has also been very accomplished coming out of Mountain Valley Middle School too.

Girls Athletic Director and Softball Coach John Gallagher
The ReSporter had a conversation with Girl’s Athletic Director John Gallagher to get the scoop.
The ReSporter: Hey Coach Gallagher give us your overall opinion on last year’s sports for the ladies.
Coach John Gallagher: “This year was a success throughout the athletic program. All of our female athletes worked very hard both in-season and off-season in the athletic period. As a whole our female athletes recorded improvement their strength, speed, and agility through a detailed workout program implemented by our coaches. There was also a higher level of academic achievement with many of our athletes being named to All-District Academic honors.”
The ReSporter: The Volleyball team set the bar high when they won the School’s first District Championship.

Alysha Perez vying for more playing time for Hawks
Canyon Lake continued their Non-Stop Volleyball games on Saturday as they participated in the Rattler Tournament in San Marcos.
The Hawks finished the day sweeping their three opponents and now prepare for best of 3 matches from here on out for this season.
CL will be starting their District 28-4A games a month from today and taking inventory and taking care of the little things become a focus for the Hawks as they prepare to build on their District Championship and see if they can add an (s) to that word.
After suffering 2 losses on Thursday in the Pool play, Canyon Lake, was placed in the Bronze Bracket and was certainly the best of this group of schools.
Poteet, San Marcos, and El Paso Andress were in the path of a team wanting to make a statement as this season progresses.

Canyon Lake Hawk Volleyball took on Blanco Friday night in a surprising 4-1 match win against the Panthers.
Coach Paisley said it was a frustrating game and that her girls were playing Blanco’s game.
“We lacked the intensity that we have been playing with,” Coach said.
In the second game the Hawks started out on top, but it quickly became a point-for-point game. Faith Hasness’s spikes were money and kept the Hawks from falling behind. Regan Mickey was also top scoring playing a smart game at the net by placing tips in Blanco’s open court.

Canyon Lake took the lightning delay and bottled it up for a run-a-way win over the Blanco Panthers, 40-7 on Friday night.
The game was tied, 7-7, when the clouds closed in and started a lightning show but the Hawks outdid that display with both their offense and defense in grand fashion.
That lightning show would get that proverbial monkey off Canyon Lake, who have been carrying a 3 year losing streak with Blanco that is now history.
“We refocused after the game delay,” Head Coach Charley Drum started. “That was the key as we executed when we came back out and I thought we were the better team.”
