Best Case Scenario Look at This Year’s Hawk Season

Hawks Defense could define how good their Season goes

Hawks Defense could define how good their Season goes

First, realize that this is an idea of what might or could happen if everything comes together for the Hawks starting in about 2 months.

This ‘best case’ would be based on injuries or lack of injuries as well as having the players being at their peak as well as keeping all of those other intangibles coming up roses for those 11 weeks of play.

Much has been made of how well Blanco plays in their first game and CL can certainly vouch for that sentiment as the Hawks have been on the losing side the past three years with no offense to speak of in those losses.

What would need to change to start this campaign with a win? A mind set that Blanco will give their best effort and that leaves Canyon Lake no room to take this game lightly.

Worst Case Scenario for Hawk’s Football

Just 64 days before kick-off

 Just 64 days before kick-off

What might be the worst case scenario for this year’s edition of Canyon Lake’s Varsity?

In other words, knowing that an obvious answer being an 0-10 game count, that record did not even come about in that first year Hawk team after a win over Ingram on the road.

The ReSporter will go through what type of season, game by game, based on tendencies and what if’s based on how events happening’s with those worst case situations.

First Game with Blanco will find CL with an 0-1 record as the Hawks always have a tough time starting strong as past campaigns would indicate.

The Panthers seem to have CL’s number for that first game and this year might be more of the same.

This game is an away game for the Hawks and in the past three openers with Blanco, Canyon Lake has only been awarded 13 points.

Translation Will be Key for this Year’s Football Squad

Coach Drum will many times say how having competition will help bring the best out of players, especially when those students have been winning.

Last year both the JV and Freshman won their district crown and even the ‘Gold’ team was undefeated without a chance of defending against other district opponents.

Not only that, but those younger teams had lost several players to varsity as Canyon Lake was starting a Sophomore QB and Running Backs in Ben Fulton, Micah St. John, and Tanner Faris on the Hawk’s backfield.

Freshman Jacob Ruff moved up from the Freshman team and got action in the offensive backfield and as a linebacker this past year.

90 Days Before Kick-Off with Blanco

                                                        90 Days Countdown

The #90 jersey was worn by Richard Rosas last season as a Sophomore and will be counted on by Canyon Lake as this defensive end will have a year under his belt.

Rosas was one of several underclassmen on last year’s roster as Canyon Lake continues to load up on a younger group of players as the first wave of Mountain Valley wealth of teams will suit this season as Juniors.Unknown-8-150x150

CL will have Freshman players that won district last year with both A and B squads. That B Squad was ineffective as 7th graders but turned it on last year and improved across the board.

That will give Hawk Coaches more competition again this year with a loaded Freshman class that might need another team like what happened last season with the ‘Gold’ Team.

Canyon Lake Starts Countdown for Next Season

Mountain Valley Lady Hawks Softball next Stop for many being CLHS

Mountain Valley Lady Hawks Softball next Stop for many being CLHS

What happened this past school year for Canyon Lake for the sporting year?

Right off the bat, you had the first District Championship when the Hawk Volleyball team took the title from Wimberley that had won a district crown since the start of this century.

That was a height never envisioned by anyone in the know as the Texan’s had been cemented into the first place podium so many years.

Then jump into the Boy’s Cross Country team that qualified for the second year in a row and with that race this past season, the times were getting much lower with many runners who will be back to go further this coming season.

You could see the evidence during the track season when Canyon Lake’s distance runners scored more points in the history of the program and will have all those student’s returning.

Thursday, May 26th, 2016

With the change of districts, Canyon Lake, will have 6 games needed to get the same amount of games as last year’s district had 3 extra schools to play.

Y4 Custom Homes says Way to Go Hawks

Y4 Custom Homes says Go Hawks

Looking at the schedule, the Hawks, have really upped their opponents and will be playing several perennial schools in the world of Volleyball.

That should help in preparation for district play and the The ReSporter had a chance to talk with Head Coach Kim Paisley about their next season in preparation of defending their title even if it will consist of different schools.

Alexis Robinson Signs Two Letters for Playing at Sul Ross this Fall

Alexis 'Smiley' Robinson signs two letters of intent for playing at Sul Ross

Alexis ‘Smiley’ Robinson signs two letters of intent for playing at Sul Ross

Alexis Robinson signed her letter of intent to attend Sul Ross earlier this year and will play two sports that she excelled in at Canyon Lake these past four years.

Robinson was the replacement for Missy Romero in the circle four years ago and she grew into her roll with grace and stamina, leaving with a bus load of records.

A good parting gift for Robinson could be a turn-table or a Juke Box to have a chance to replay her records while at school.

Robinson will be going from the Hill Country to the Davis Mountain Country as that will also be her job in raising her talent level in order to compete on a college stage. Just like climbing a hill versus climbing a mountain, it will be steeper and much higher.
