Saturday, August 20th, 2016Hawks Forget Lines in One Act Play but Beat Kerrville for Encore
Saturday, August 20th, 2016Canyon Lake had a two act play on their final day of Volleyball in the NEISD Tournament finishing with a win after two losses.
The Hawks started Saturday with a decent and competitive loss to 6A SA Madison losing 1-2.
Then a turnaround game with East Bernard with no time to rest and the Brahmas took advantage with a 2 set sweep.
That last set was a scorcher as the Hawks only mustered mayonnaise with 5 total points making for a sloppy sandwich and an upset stomach.
“Let’s just say we had a heart to heart discussion,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said eloquently. “We had some tactics for Tivy and it did great and we were fired up to play them (Kerrville).
CL Hawks Finish first day at NEISD Tourney, 2-1
Friday, August 19th, 2016Canyon Lake had a successful day playing Class 6A schools on their first day of competition at the NEISD Tournament at Churchill High School.
SA Clark was the only loss as Clark finished the day with a 10-2 record after sweeping the 4 team pool play.
CL Hawks finished second in pool play after beating SA East Central and Los Fresnos and giving them a date with SA Madison at 10am.
“I don’t want to have to call a time out tomorrow and ask our team to get intense,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said adamantly. “I want us to play with more consistency and more confident.”
Final Scrimmage with La Vernia as Blanco Looms Next
Thursday, August 18th, 2016With rain all week long, the Hawks took the field on Thursday afternoon and found sunshine and a great afternoon for football.
Canyon Lake also closed their exhibition season with La Vernia as the overall picture was positive with the Hawks doing well in several areas with the Sub-Varsity squads while the Hawk Varsity played a great set of plays in this contest.
“I think we came out better as we stepped up our competition while learning a valuable lesson on not putting them away,” Head Coach Charlie Drum started.
After having several plays of scrimmage the two teams had two 12 minute running clock to close the final part of the affair.
The Hawks started their play by dominating both defensively and offensively. With the first 3 Bear possessions being stopped by 2 interceptions and one recovered fumble.

CL Hawks Tame the Lions in 3-0 Sweep
Tuesday, August 16th, 2016Canyon Lake Volleyball swept the Lockhart Lions on Tuesday night by duplicating their 25-19 score for the match. The win was the 5th all time as CL has yet to be beaten by the Lions.
The Hawks were in control for the first two games and then the Lions decided to get their act together with an 8 point rally third game early to go ahead, 13-5.
That 8 point lead continued with Lockhart up 18-10 with momentum to go another game into the set.
CL was not having a good time for that part of the game by committing 3 service errors and another 8 unforced errors during this fog driven game.

Coaches Corner with Volleyball’s Kim Paisley
Sunday, August 14th, 2016The ReSporter: What is your take after the first week of games for this group of ladies?
Coach Paisley: “I saw some really great things as far as the growth and the development of team chemistry. We did really well at the team level and I was able to get everyone in and run different combinations of rotations.”
The ReSporter: What are some items you will concentrate on as you start the second week?
Coach Paisley: “Well, after passing all week in practice, that really made a difference in our play at TexFest. We still need to work on fine tuning our serve receive. I feel offensively, on Friday, we got comfortable and were able to expand our options and offensive plays at the net.” (more…)
CL Varsity Football is Here as Was the Heat
Saturday, August 13th, 2016By Cory Martelli
The 2016 CLHS Varsity football season got underway Friday night in the usual August format; HOT! Temperatures to start the game as the field had to be in triple digits and the Texas heat spread across the fruited plains ushered in a long sought after football season to begin anew.
The Smithville Tigers came calling on Friday afternoon into Canyon Lake in the sweltering heat to find about 250 fired up Hawk fans waiting to greet them.
The Hawks met the Tigers last year in the regular season in Smithville and earned a win. The key words there in that sentence was “last year.”
Hawks Finish Tex-Fest with 5-1 Record
Saturday, August 13th, 2016Canyon Lake Volleyball finished Tex-Fest Tournament with a 5-1 record and continues to improve during pre-district after beating Bastrop to end their Saturday play.
“I felt like we played together but we still have a lot to work on,” Head Volleyball Coach Kim Paisley said. “We had better competition today (Saturday) and I hope Laredo United wins.”
Laredo United was the one loss in tournament play as this 6A school had all the tools in that first matchup with the Hawks beating CL, 25-18 and 25-14/
The Hawks played a 5A school in Bastrop later Saturday and swept their opponent, 25-22 and 25-20.
“This afternoon we were blah,” Coach Paisley said matter of factly. “But a win is a win but we just did not have any intensity….I can’t have the intensity the team has to carry that on their on.”
