Friday, September 4th, 2015JV Hawks Have Birthday Bash for Tigers, 18-0
Friday, September 4th, 2015CLJV had a birthday bash for Smithville on Thursday night as they methodically took care of the Tigers in their first home game of the season.
Right out of the gate the surprise Birthday was sniffed out as Defensive Back Tyler Bishop decided to jump on a gift from the Smithville Quarterback and took it home for a 40 yard interception return.
The interception was on the third play from scrimmage and the gift was opened and used for becoming the only gifts needing to be opened for the win.
“I knew they would be throwing a pass and I told Caimen (McDonough) to be looking for it,” Clairvoyant Bishop said.
Bishop celebrated his 17th Birthday on this night and what a present in the size of a oblong object being thrown in your direction.
CL Hawks Freshman Clean Up Tigers, 34-0
Thursday, September 3rd, 2015Canyon Lake Freshman keep on rolling as they cleaned up the Tigers on Thursday night winning, 34-0.
Smithville started the game with 14 running plays and taking the script from the Hawk’s playbook in taking the air from the clock.
The Tigers were finally stopped after reaching the CL 13 yard line and that would be all the offense this team would accumulate.
This drive ended with Smithville garnering 48 yards and the Tigers finished the game with 43 total yards.
“We did not have the our minds right and we were not focused,” QB Cooper Harris stated. “We started to be a real football team after the second half started…..we got a pep talk at halftime and Coach said we needed to get our head out.”
Pre/Game: Canyon Lake @ Smithville
Thursday, September 3rd, 2015History: Canyon Lake leads the all-time series, 1-0. 2014 Hawks 43 Tigers 14 This Year's Games Hawks 00 Blanco 14 Smithville 28 Rockdale 48
Canyon Lake will enter this year’s second game much like they did last year after a bruising loss to Blanco and this time an offensive shut out from the Panthers.
Smithville had also started their first game with CL with a loss and both teams trying to get off the floor with their first win of the season.
Coaches Corner with Hawk’s Charley Drum
Thursday, September 3rd, 2015Coaches Corner with Hawk’s Charley Drum
The ReSporter: Another tough game with Blanco, last season you changed some personnel after that loss…will you be making some changes this week?
Coach Drum: “Not as much, the effort was there and the mistakes can be taken care of. We wanted to see their set and they (the players) did the same thing.”
The ReSporter: That old adage of how a team improves from game one to game two, what are your thoughts.
Coach Drum: “They did well and we had a lot of improvement from the last scrimmage to the game with Blanco. They get it, were they perfect? No! But I like what I saw.” (more…)
Volleyball: CL Hawks Run Away with Win Over Marion
Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015Canyon Lake ran away with their score over Marion winning, 3-0 in their Tuesday match up with the Bulldogs.
“Coach (Paisley) said that if they scored over 12 points then their would be consequences,” Junior Setter Regan Mickey said.
When asked what those consequences might be, Mickey was succinct, “We knew Coach would have us running.”
So that will explain the three set scores: 25-17, 25-20, and 25-7. Notice that last set score and you will see a group of players taking their coach seriously.
The two outside hitters had good matches finishing the contest with 17 and 13 kills for Addison Farley and Bailey Drum respectively.
There was good play all around in the game from the net to the back row as each player had a say in the final score.

CL Hawks Win Silver Bracket at the San Marcos Rattler Tourney
Saturday, August 29th, 2015Canyon Lake won the Silver Bracket Championship in the San Marcos Rattler Tournament that finished on Saturday.
“We won the Bronze bracket last year and we wanted to bring some hardware home tonight,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said proudly.
The Hawks swept three games on Saturday winning the final over 6A Weatherford Kangaroos in three sets.
A good week of Volleyball for the Hawks after upping their schedule to play in last week’s NEISD Tournament against larger schools.
“This was a good day…..great day,” Coach Paisley said as her voice was leaving her. “Hannah’s (Wunderlich) serving was on fire, she had good muscle memory and she was on fire….our defense is getting better and we are heading in the right direction.”
Hawks Shoot Blancs in Loss to Blanco, 14-0
Saturday, August 29th, 2015Blanco was able to reload much quicker than Canyon Lake as the Hawks could not find their revolver in time for the game and when they did it would not shoot in their opening loss, 14-0.
“I loved the effort,” Head Coach Charley Drum said. “We were just not finishing and had crucial mistakes.”
Canyon Lake rebounded last season after having an offense that looked similar to this year’s start.
“We will get better and this game was night and day different from last year,” Coach Drum continued. “I am proud of these young kids and we just have to get better every week as many of them found out about Friday night lights and our confidence will get better.”
CL Freshman Hawk’s Football Wins Track Meet, 48-6
Friday, August 28th, 2015The season opener for the 2015 Freshman football season kicked off Friday at Lago Vista’s brand new beautiful High School as the Canyon Lake Hawk freshman took on the Lago Vista JV Gold Vikings.
The Vikings won the coin toss and at the time no one knew, but it would be the Vikings last time in which they won anything.
On the opening possession for Lago Vista, on a 3rd and nine, Trenton Lorett swooped down and picked off a pass on the Canyon Lake 42 yard line and sent the Vikings packing.
On the Hawk’s first possession after a false start from an eager offensive line, the O-line plowed head first into the Vikings defense on three consecutive plays and drove the defense back 55 yards when Lorett scored from 5 yards out and added his own 2 point conversion. 8-0 Hawks.
