Canyon Lake’s JV Volleyball team came home from Wimberley holding a 1st Place Silver Bracket trophy.
Another Hawk team that is starting to jell as this year’s schedule continues.
The Hawk JV had some new faces starting this year which made this season a little longer to get each player on the same page with their communication.
One game in particular had been on this team’s mind when CLJV was beaten in Lockhart three weeks ago. In that game, the Hawks, had an eight point lead in that third match and a chance for their first win.
That is when all those communication gremlins showed up on the court that night and Lockhart found their groove for a comeback win.
“I think this tournament really helped us to gel as a team,” Head JV Coach Megan Helmey said. “I can see the girls working together and trusting each other more.”

Hawks Have Defensive Gem in Win over Marion, 38-6
Saturday, September 13th, 2014Canyon Lake finished off the Marion Bulldogs in wet conditions and lightening delays on Friday night, 38-6.
The game was early in the first quarter when lightning had been sighted and the stands emptied as a delay for an hour ensued on this wet night.
“It was a little depressing when they had to stop the game,” Safety Matt Adams volunteered. “But with Tommy Clark in the locker room, he got us all pumped up and ready to go when we returned to play.”
CL had a 7-0 lead at the delay signal and quickly resumed when they had a lightening strike offensively for another score with 5:16 left on the first quarter clock.
“We had a goal to have a fast start,” Head Coach Charley Drum said. “We got three and out on defense and our kickoffs gave us touchbacks.”
That was certainly a part of the game that changed from last week’s start.
“They had this game and played with intensity,” Coach Drum parted.

Homecoming for CL is now beginning to be an event that graduated students are growing in number and the name is just what it needs to be a home coming.
The Hawks will play their second home game in a row and this will be another team that is struggling both offensively and defensively.
Canyon Lake will need to step up their intensity no matter their opponent as games like this will not be a true test for contests coming up over the horizon.
There is not a lot of things you can deduce from this Bulldog’s team offense as they have 159 total yards for that side of the ball. That comes out to 80 yards per game thus far.
CL Hawks Volleyball Stats for Mid-Season
Wednesday, September 10th, 2014
The ReSporter has mid season numbers for the Volleyball team and this is also a good time to go over what might transpire this year in District 26-4A.
Looking at the standings you will find five teams with a legitimate chance of snagging one of the four playoff spots.
Givens? Gonzales will not win a game this year in district action and La Vernia has a chance to surprise simply because they have proven themselves in past years.
Yes, they lost several players from last year’s team and the question would be can they compete with all five teams.
There have already been two games played and Cuero had the best non-district record but being beaten by Navarro 3-0 does not give you a good idea that any of those wins were to stalwart teams.

Hawks Sweep La Grange Lady Leopards
Tuesday, September 9th, 2014Canyon Lake had a big win against La Grange on the road when they scored a sweep, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23.
For some perspective on this game take these facts on La Grange.
The Leps had just won the Consolation Bracket in the just completed Hays Tournament that had 25 teams in competition.
That translates to winning six out of eight contests and before their loss to the Hawks had a 21-7 record.
“This was a good preparation game for district,” Head Coach Kim Paisley stated. “They will remind you a lot of Wimberley with their tradition.”

CL Hawks Volleyball B(P)lanks Sinton Pirates, 3-0
Sunday, September 7th, 2014CL Hawks make the Sinton Pirates walk the plank in last Friday night’s game, 25-19, 25-16, 25-19.
The Hawks looked in control on this night as they met a team that was playing students that were younger than they were.
Sinton had several freshman and sophomores on the court which might sound a lot like last year’s Hawk team.
The good news is that CL did not show any mercy as they disposed of this Pirate team before they had a chance to get a patch put over their eye.
Each game had Canyon Lake taking a lead and maintaining the pressure and not letting Sinton to get back into position to stage a knock out punch.
