Canyon Lake Boy’s Track Breakdown: Relays

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

The Hawks have a good group of guys running the relays. Pretty simple synopsis…

Canyon Lake beat there all-time best in all three relays at the Tiger Relays in Dripping Springs over a week ago.

The Mile Relay was brought down enough to give this foursome a chance to make State.

Both of the other two relays might need some good hand offs to maximize a time that would have a chance to make the next level.

Canyon Lake won all three events last season and this foursome has been together all year and have a good balance and work well together.

Eduardo Covarrubias, Doug Hubnik, Daniel Camarillo, and Zach Henshaw look to be peeking right at a good time to bring home some medals.

Below is the run down for the Relays as well as the projected finish of this year’s District 26-3A Meet.

Girls Track Breakdown: Distance & Hurdles

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

After going over the Sprint Events earlier, The ReSporter will now delve into Distance

and Hurdle events from the District 26-3A schools.

At our last writing, Fredericksburg had 31 points with Wimberley and Bandera close behind scoring 25 and 18 respectively.

To go over how this evaluation transpires: The ReSporter has dug up as many of the Track Meets from all the schools and have put the results in a competition against each district team.

This will give you a good idea of how the Meet will unfold this coming week. If there is one constant for Track is that all the runners will run against the clock and this will give you a good way of seeing the event finish.

Athletes times should be constant in theory no matter where they are running. However there will also be different weather patterns and running against tougher competition will equate to better times and distances.

Softball: Hawks Walk All Over the Greyhounds, 10-1

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

You have heard of the old phrase, ‘a walk is better than a hit’, well last Thursday

Centerfielder Mary Caroline Jordan

night in Boerne, the CL Hawks got to practice that adage in a, 10-1 victory over Boerne.

Here are some numbers that show the wildness of the Boerne pitcher.

Sixteen walks, countless wild pitches and passed balls (which accounts for the low number of rbi’s), and four Hawks that were hit by pitches.

Canyon Lake had an on base percentage of .533 as a team and pretty much just needed a leash in order to go ‘Walk’ the dog. (Greyhound)

There were three Hawks that were able to escape the walk on their at bat.

CL Boy’s Track & Field District Breakdown

Saturday, April 7th, 2012

After evaluating six events for Sprints and Distance the District Scores so far are in

Fredericksburg favor.

The distance runs helped the Billies score 51 points worth of separation for the rest of the district teams.

At our last writing the District 26-3A race was as follows:

91  Fredericksburg
39  Canyon Lake
20  Boerne
15  Bandera
12  Wimberley
3  Navarro

Now this writing will concentrate on the Hurdles and Field events.

There will be eight events for this breakdown.

110 Meter Hurdles:

Navarro’s Miricle has the best time (15.56) for this run. Fredericksburg will once again dominate as they have the second, fifth, and six best times.

Boerne has the third and fourth best times. This will have three teams that can score for these hurdles.

Canyon Lake has the seventh and eighth best times and could make an appearance, but something would have to befall another runner to place.

CL’s Girls Track and Field District Break Down

Friday, April 6th, 2012

The ReSporter has compiled the best times for athletes from the six District 26-3A

schools and have them ranked in order to come up with a prognostication on the upcoming district meet.

Dividing the 17 events into four different categories will give you an idea of where you might want to concentrate your attention if you are fortunate to be at the two day event this week.

The results will be flawed (injuries, grades, etc.) but after using this same method last season, the team finish was the same just some minor adjustments with the final point total for each school.

The four areas that will be dissected are as follows: Sprints—Distance—Hurdles—Field Events.

Tail Gate Tradition Continues

Friday, April 6th, 2012

Last year during the end of Canyon Lake’s Softball season, you could walk by a few

A well fed Tailgate Crew

students that had some ‘grub’ on the grill and enjoying there last days before the end of school.

Oh yeah, they would also visit the Softball game that was on their way to the playoffs for the first time in the history of this program.

These Students were mostly Seniors, but there were also enough younger aged participants that would allow this event to be repeated for the next campaign.

The CL Flag draped trucks would be seen when driving  onto the parking lot close to the Field of Dreams.

“I just like to BBQ,” Senior Brandon Berger said. “And were all about supporting the girls (Softball Team).”

The crew will eat and enjoy each others company, but as soon as the food is finished…the students will make themselves heard in support for the Hawk’s Softball team.

Canyon Lake Track and Field-Jordan Anderson

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

Jordan Anderson takes Track and Field seriously.

The young man runs three sprint and two field events. That can lead to a very tiring day on the cinders, especially when you consider that for District 26-3A Meet being held at Canyon Lake next week, there will be several prelims to whittle down the field to eight sprinters.

Anderson has upped the ante on all his races and field events this season and in so doing has given himself a good chance of getting to the Regional Meet in all five events.

Last season Anderson was not prepared for the newness of running in a meet that had the best athletes from Region 4.

An area that goes from Liberty Hill down to Harlingen.

“Last year I stayed awake till 3am thinking that I would not start until late in the morning,” Anderson sprinted his first answer. “I was hanging with guys that ran the sprints like me, but was not participating in field events. When I found out that I had to be at the track earlier, it gave me only three hours of sleep for the first day.”

Sophomore mistake that will probably not be repeated this year.

“I feel the most confident on the high jump,” Anderson responded on which of the five events he is feeling the best at so far this season.

Track: Coaches Corner and CL Track Talk

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

The ReSporter: Pretty impressive to be able to improve in all three of the

Jordan Anderson beating the Field in Wimberley last Season

Jordan Anderson beating the Field in Wimberley last Season

relays…what are the guys doing that has given these type of results?

Coach Montgomery: “The boys work very hard in practice, and we have done a good job of ensuring that we do not overtrain. We have to balance their track with their weightlifting.”

The ReSporter: Jaaz McNair improved his Shot Put throw by almost three feet…can you tell us what his technique might have been to improve that much in just one week?

Coach Montgomery: “He has been doing well in practice, and he got off a good throw in Dripping Springs. No real changes in technique.”
