Girls Track: CL has Another Good Day at Tiger Relays

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

The Hawks were off to Dripping Springs last week and both the Girls and Boys Tracksters continue to improve with personal and team bests.

The Girls 4×400 Relay improved their time by five seconds as they brought there time down to 4:11.15 which would place this Relay group to three seconds better than the second place best of Fredericksburg.

The ReSporter has compiled the best times in the District this year and have those times below.

Canyon Lake is presently in fifth place but they improved their point total by 20 points in the last week giving them a great chance to finish in fourth place next week for the District Meet.

The Girls also have some marks that have a chance to advance to State this year.

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

The Canyon Lake Hawks take another tough loss to Bandera last Friday night in the ‘Dog pound, 5-1.

The Hawks scratched across one run in the third inning staking a short lived lead against the home team.

J.J. Nance led off the inning with a base hit and was brought in by the hot hitting Travis Walker.

The lead was short lived as Walker who was also the pitcher could not keep the door closed as Bandera answered with two runs that same inning.

The game was within reach throughout the contest as Walker held Bandera to six hits.

Softball: Hawks have Two Game Winning Streak Beat Billies, 7-0

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

Canyon Lake now has a two game winning streak over Fredericksburg. Repeat: The

Center Fielder Mary Caroline Jordan

Center Fielder Mary Caroline Jordan

Hawks have beaten the Billies in two consecutive games.

Not impressed? Missy Romero pitched a no-hitter in the win.

Not impressed? Hawks offense batted around in the lineup, scoring six runs in one inning.

Not Impressed? The No-Hitter had six outs via strikeout, but the DEFENSE played an exceptional game in the outfield as well as the infield.

Not Impressed? Don’t know what else to say, except the trinity for softball was clicking with offense, defense, and pitching and this trifecta could not of happened at a better time.

Girls Soccer: CL ends Season with, 3-0 Win over Wimberley

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

The ReSporter: Last game against Wimberley was a morale booster, tell The

Canyon Lake Freshman the Future

Canyon Lake Freshman the Future

ReSporter about the game and how the team played against their arch rival?

Coach Jeff Vaughn:It is always great to end the season on a high note.  We talked about this before the game and at half time as well.  This game was personal to me.  As a coach I always say “We” but that night I told them that “I” want a win.  We started this program four years ago with this group of seniors and I told them that “I” want a win…and that “I” expected nothing less from this being their last night!  As far as the game goes…we played well, and exceeded my expectations by winning 3-0…With two seniors scoring goals.  Annie Jacobs scored our only goal in the first half…then shortly after the second half started she got a straight red card for a suspect tackle…but I was proud that she got a goal.  We had to play about 35 minutes with only 10 versus 11…and only up a goal.  I changed nothing…the girls kept their feet on the gas and Amanda Pettyjohn (a senior) and Christy Fowler added two more tallies before it was all said and done.  I was a proud coach!!!”

Softball: CL time to Right the Ship

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

Canyon Lake is now three games into District 26-3A play and are in a position

McKenna Beseda

that needs some attention.

The last two games has had a defense that has had 12 errors …Not Good.

The offense has only produced two runs …Not Good.

Yes, this Hawk team is young, but if they can get their act together, then the epilogue can entice an excited crowd for the end of the play.

In other words, Canyon Lake can not afford to get too far behind in the race for a playoff spot.

Wimberley game finished with a 3-0 loss, but allowing so many extra runners on base via errors proved to be a down fall.

Softball: Hawks Run Over Greyhounds, 14-4

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

The Canyon Lake Hawks have started their District 26-3A race by running over the

Kelsey Ahrens

Boerne Greyhounds last Wednesday, 14-4 in the shortened run ruled game.

“I think we were ready to play and came out aggressive  offensively,” Head Coach John Gallagher started. “We just got to keep working and plugging.”

The lineup looks like it might be set for most of the games for the remainder of the season.

McKenna Beseda started the game in left field, which allowed Kelsey Ahrens to take third base and moving Lilimae Dailey to first. A position she played last year.

“Beseda is good out there,” Coach Gallagher surmised. “Her speed is an asset. Now with (Mary) Jordan at centerfield we can play quick….but this will all be based on who we play.”

Missy Romero was dominant from the circle and held Boerne to two hits in the contest.

Boerne helped the Hawks cause with seven errors, which allowed the Hawks long innings and 12 runs to start the contest.

Baseball: Hawks say Hello to the Win Column

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Canyon Lake has finally gotten the taste of winning and the savoring might not be

Leftfielder Kyler Huff

Leftfielder Kyler Huff

over as District 26-3A starts to rev into high gear. The Hawks beat the Panthers from Navarro, 6-1 with some outstanding pitching from Logan Felch last Wednesday night.

Felch was the hard luck pitcher against Bandera in the district opener when he gave up one run in the loss.

In the Navarro game, Felch gave up four hits and struck out 10 Panthers while just walking one batter. Pretty impressive game from the mound.

“This game makes us feel a lot better in getting our first district win,” Felch pitched in. “Things are starting to row for us…this team has got a little more fight and has more of a positive attitude this year.”

The Hawk Defense was another reason for the ease in which the game transpired.

“That is a good feeling,” Felch commented on how well the defense played tonight.
