Mountain Valley 7th and 8th Grade Football teams completed their seasons with District Championships as the Greyhounds could only place in a ‘Dog Run’.

The MVMS 8th Grade started where they left off in their previous match-up with Boerne by applying that suffocating defense while the offense just ran up and down the field like they were Greyhounds.

The ReSporter had too many games on it’s plate on Thursday as the CL Volleyball Playoff game against Sealy took precedence on coverage.

However the following two articles were penned by Coaches Juan Lopez and Brandon Pawelek. Thanks Coaches for helping The ReSporter with these write-ups.

MV Hawks 8A Team Quiets Boerne, 39-6

Mountain Valley Hawks 8th A team averaged over 11 yards per play as they ran away from the Greyhounds, 39-6 on Thursday night at Hawk Stadium.

Of the 34 plays from scrimmage, 16 plays went over 10 yards of real estate as the Greyhounds found out that a Hawk can run like a Roadrunner.

Last year, MV 8A team lost one game and it was against this Boerne club. If the casual fan did not notice, Mountain Valley was still stinging from that game and wanted to make amends.

(Amen)ds were indeed made as the Hawks finished their prayer over Boerne by also saying Amen.

“We needed to win this game tonight,” Jacob Ruff said smoothly.

Ruff was just as ruthless whether he was playing linebacker or running back.

“I like to hit, but I like both sides of the ball equally,” Ruff said like a politician. “But anytime I see a chance to make a hit, then I am going to take my shot.”

Another Hawk that plays like the Tazmanian Devil on both sides of the ball is Trenton Lorett, “This is district and we were going to give it our all.”

But don’t forget that ‘D’, because Mountain Valley only allowed one fluke pass play to go the distance as a tipped ball that could have been intercepted bounced off a Hawk’s hands into a Greyhound that finished the run and scored Boerne’s only touchdown on this night.

MV 8B Hawks Go Hollywood in Win over Boerne, 28-8

Friday, October 31st, 2014

Mountain Valley 8B squad regained their dominance over Boerne when they started their day keeping these Greyhounds in their muzzle without a trace of a bark in their, 28-8 win.

Defense was the name of this game as Boerne had center snap problems that would just exasperate their offensive rhythm and Mountain Valley would certainly take advantage by clamping down on all the Greyhound’s offense advances.

Scoring with no time on the halftime clock when Quarterback Cade Dunavant found receiver Zack (Hollywood) Taliaferro behind Boerne’s defensive backs for a game clinching touchdown from 37 yards out.

“I did a fade route and Cade (Dunavant) had a good pass but it was on the wrong side but I just looked to the corner of the end zone,” Hollywood Taliaferro said as if he was rehearsing for the lead roll.

“That play helped us to keep our momentum,” Dunavant said. “This was our last home game and we wanted this win.”

Mountain Valley’s 8B Team Hang Loss on the Billies, 14-6

Sunday, October 26th, 2014

Mountain Valley’s 8B team rushed out to a 14 point lead and held on for a win over Fredericksburg’s Middle School, 14-6.

Brandon Cassard is all in on getting two more wins this year against Boerne

That first MV drive was all it would take to get this win as the Hawks drove 67 yards and the eventual win when Nic Robinson scored from four yards out and put a cherry on this TD with a run for the two point conversion.

The next Mountain Valley drive was cut short after reaching the Billies’ 19 yard line and fumbling that chance away.

Fredericksburg’s first three drives would end with punts as the Hawks would score their two touchdowns for a 14-0 lead going into halftime.

Christian Rhoades had a great set of downs on that scoring drive with a nifty 46 yard run and then a nine yard run two plays later for that score.

This game would have some more runners with a chance of showing off some of their skills as Connor Rose and Landry Moore both averaged over 12 yards per carry and accounted for four touchdowns.

“We had not played much and this was the first game we could show that we were tough enough,” Rose said.

“I wanted to show that I was true asset,” Moore said with the same resolve as Rose earlier.

Mountain Valley scored on seven of their eight times with the ball.

That one time a score was not a result? The Hawks had just two plays as they were running out the first half clock.

Running back Ramirez for Liberty Hill had two runs for 27 and 28 yards for touchdowns in that first half would help the Panthers claim their lead.

Mountain Valley did respond with their opening drive of the second half when they drove 50 yards on nine play drive.

The drive was highlighted with a run from Chase McCutchen for 27 yards that help the Hawks to finish off with a touchdown when Brandon Robinson ran the ball in from one yard out on a fourth down play.

This drive almost took the whole third quarter and with one defensive stop another chance for a score with a chance to tie the game.

An opening drive for 85 yards with 19 plays while converting three fourth downs was all it took to take the sails from this Panther team.

Ethan Slater ran the last four yards on that first drive and for all they knew at the time, a win, with that touchdown.

MV did not let Liberty Hill have the ball until there was just 1:28 left on the second quarter clock.

No, the drive did not last that long but the Hawks executed an on-side kick twice in this game and that allowed the visitors just five plays from scrimmage in that first half.

It was a three for one evening as MV had 39 plays to Liberty Hill’s 13 and a 21 to 7 minute advantage on the game clock.

MV Hawks 8B Team just misses Win in LH game, 8-0

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Mountain Valley 8B team lost game with two minutes left in their game after squandering several scoring opportunities, 8-0

Two great opportunities for scores went awry on this Hawk team as the defense played a excellent game with another chance for redemption next week.

MV will travel to Liberty Hill for another chance to make things right blowing some good drives just short of the goal line.

Drive Plays YL Started YL Ended
 #2 12 Hawks 42 Panthers 18
 #3 8 Panthers 26 Panthers 2
 #4 13 Hawks 20 Panthers 7

Three good chances that did not pan out and knowing that two would of won this game will be a sore spot until these two teams meet next week.

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Mountain Valley 8th A squad was all business as they disposed of an undefeated Liberty Hill team, 19-6 last Thursday night at the Hawk Stadium.

MV 7&8 B Teams Use Paint Remover in Win, 32-6 over Vikings

Friday, October 3rd, 2014

Mountain Valley 7th and 8th B squads were combined for a game with Lago Vista to kick-off a three game affair with the Vikings.

“Our kids played hard tonight,” Head Coach Blake Miller quoted. “I am very excited for our kids today to get this win. A number of them stepped up and played well even though the circumstances were not the best.”

This Hawk club was victorious, 32-6 as this game was with a running clock from the opening whistle.

If you add another facet of a Lago Vista coaching staff, waiting to call a play about one per minute, fans would have a good reason to see if paint actually does dry that slowly.
