Fredericksburg last week last Friday.

The future for Canyon Lake High School will have several athletes with some aspirations of grandeur. (used those Big words to motivate some class work)

MVMS 8th Grade Boys team finished in second place being edged out by Navarro, 141 to 137.

Luke Justis and Will Joyner were the two top point producers as all four teams showed some good times and distances.

Justis finished with 30 points for MVMS with a first place finish in the 200 Meter Dash and two Relays.
A 2nd place finish in the Triple Jump and 5th place finish for the long jump helped give him his score.

the house or off work to see some good athletes.

Canyon Lake will have some athletes that bares watching this week.

Christian Dittman will be performing the Pole Vault and he has all the Hawk records and looks for an opportunity to take his act further this season.

Last year the district track teams voted to take the top two athletes which did away with a meet in the area that would have had a chance of weeding out times and distances for the Region Meet.

Mountain Valley Middle School 8th Grade is just one year away from walking down Canyon Lake High

School halls and below, The ReSporter, has compiled the stats on a limited number of games this that were played at home.

The total stats will have both 8th Grade team’s combined numbers.

MVMS doubled their yardage over the competition and by looking at those players you will see that having running backs for next season will not be a problem.

Rushing was dominant as the Hawks almost tripled the yardage of their opponent.

Just like the 7th Grade, MVMS 8th grade team won the offensive battle, but  it was their defense that might be even more impressive as many of these same players below doubled on the defensive side of the ball.

Mountain Valley Seventh Grade had a Grade A football season and The ReSporter would like to

play a tribute to this group of players.

Canyon Lake will be well represented in the next few years as MVMS will be feeding two teams the 7th and 8th Grades into high school and that will certainly give the Hawks a chance to improve as these teams finish their eligibility at Mountain Valley.

Mountain Valley doubled yardage gained against their opponents and looking at the players average yards per run gives you an idea of how dominant this team performed.

The stats below were compiled based on home games this season for both A and B squads.

Mountain Valley’s 8th ‘A’ Team has tough Loss to Navarro, 28-22

Friday, November 8th, 2013

Mountain Valley’s 8th ‘A’ team started their engines too late in a loss to Navarro last Thursday night, 28-22.

The first half of this game was a clinic as Navarro scored on two of their three possessions and a defense that allowed MV no yardage for being stuck in the sand.

Mountain Valley only had 11 plays and accumulated 30 yards for a anemic 2.7 yards per play.

Then the Hawks decided to get after these Panthers when they took the kick-off and ran like a panther over the panthers.

Mtn. Valley 8th ‘B’ Squad Climbs Mountain in Win over Navarro, 36-16

Mountain Valley climbed a mountain from the Valley and scored a big win over Navarro, 36-16 last Thursday at Hawk Field.

This game did not start well for MV as the Panthers took a quick three play drive 55 yards, putting Mountain Valley in a valley to start this affair.

Mountain Valley however would answer on their ensuing drive when Rolando Maronge capped a 65 yard drive from 26 yards out converting a fourth down with a touchdown.

The Hawks then proceded to get two defensive stops that was sandwiched with a fumbled punt giving Navarro a continuation of their drive.

Jesse Sarmiento helped even that turnover battle intercepting Navarro’s first pass of the game giving the Hawks possession and a chance to right the ship.

A methodical 8 play drive that still left too much time on the clock after Parker Reno converted a quarterback sneak.

Mountain Valley Hawks 7th A Team Falls Short in Loss to Boerne, 12-8

Friday, November 1st, 2013

Mountain Valley 7th A team had a hard time getting traction in loss to Boerne, 12-8.

This was the Hawks first loss this season and will now have to regroup has they prepare for Navarro in the season final next week.

Boerne was in the MV’s huddle for several plays as the Greayhound defensive line was in the Hawks backfield on several plays causing little or no gain.

Tristan Chacon had an excellent game defensively and also was able to work a 8 yard average per rush attempt.

The defense did hold Boerne below the century mark, but that consolation prize will not ease or change the final score.

Hawks 7th B Squad Had More than Boerne could Handle in, 28-12 Win

Friday, November 1st, 2013

Mountain Valley Hawks 7th Grade ‘B’ Squad had way more than the Greyhounds could handle in a

redemption game win, 28-12 last Thursday at Hawk stadium.

In their first game, MV suffered their first loss of the year in Boerne but after the few first plays, fans knew that this game might have a different result.

Mountain Valley’s offensive stats would of fit onto a 6-Man football field on this day as each play run averaged over 12 yards. In the game earlier this year, the fumble was the kryptonite for the Hawks but in this game, Mountain Valley still had three fumbles but even that Kryptonite was not lethal for the superhuman efforts and resolve to redeem themselves from that loss.

MV’s first drive had running back Devon Morehead with two runs of 30 and 31 yards, the last run paving a path to the end zone the Hawks would enjoy for the rest of this night. Morehead finished with 109 yards on just 8 carries.

Morehead’s first run was unique in how the defender just ran with Devon but could not take him down…it looked like a new dance routine.

“I felt like hew was running with me,” Morehead recounted. “Towards the end of my run I was just trying at least gain as many yards as I could. The offensive line stepped up for sure today.”
