Mountain Valley 7th B Squad Takes Air out of Ball in Win over Wimberley

Mountain Valley’s 7th B team played lock down defense in the second half to wrestle the lead and win over Wimberley last Thursday night at Hawk Stadium, 16-12.

The Texans led the total yardage stat at halftime by a slim 9 yard cushion, 86-77 yards.

Then the second half had that same defense take the Texans to New Mexico when they held Wimberley to a total of 3 yards and goose eggs for the remainder of this game.

That defense allowed Mountain Valley to stage a 12 play 68 yard drive when Devon Morehead crossed the goal line for the eventual winning touchdown.

“They could not stop us because our line blocked so well,” Morehead said while using his head. “We did a great job and and we got better.”

On that fourth down interception, Morehead commented, “All I saw was the ball going straight and I just went after it.”

The Hawk ‘B’ squad started this contest with a whimper as their first four plays accounted for a negative three yards. The game might be a surprise for a club that has been clubbing opponents all year long.

Bandera then marched to the Mountain Valley 9 yard line where the Bulldogs finally ran out of gas.

The nine play drive covering 32 yards would be Bandera’s best drive of the night as these Bulldogs would only amass three more first downs in this game.

victory completing a Hawk sweep of our neighbors from the west.

This game had a slow start as Mountain Valley was 1 for 3 on scoring after acquiring the ball from the Billies.

Two penalties on MV first drive helped in getting a dose of reality and an empty opportunity of taking control of this game early.

To put it simply, Mountain Valley had a Ruff start to this affair.

back on the winning track as they whitewashed the Billies, 22-0 last Thursday night at Hawk Stadium.

The Hawk rushing attack averaged right at 8 yards per carry as Conner Rose and Landry Moore continued to punish Fredericksburg on the ground.

Rose hit the century mark with 117 yards while averaging almost 20 yards per touch. Likewise Moore was also successful needing just 4 yards for a chance to have two runners with 100 yards in one game.

It did not take Mountain Valley long to establish the run as Rose took the ball on the second play from scrimmage and did not finish running until he had crossed the goal line, 51 yards later.

Mountain Valley 8th Grade Sweep Boerne

Friday, October 4th, 2013

The carnage started after the opening kick-off as the Mountain Valley 8th Grade A team put a whuppin on the Boerne Greyhounds at Hawk stadium.

A 63 yard 3 play drive to start the game had this Hawk team out of the gate and leaving behind a Greyhound team that looked more like a Brownhound.

Two runs gaining 18 yards from Micah St. John and then a burst right through the middle of an offensive line that controlled Boerne by Ben Fulton and Mountain Valley was putting these Greyhounds on a Bus before they had a chance to enter their race.

“I don’t think I would of had those yards if it wasn’t for my offensive line and (Luke) Justis blocking for me,” Running Back Fulton said.

Defense was also very apparent for MV when they held Boerne to a lofty (-11) yards of total offense in that first half.

Mountain Valley 7th A and B Squads put Bullpups in the Pound

Friday, September 20th, 2013

Mountain Valley A squad potty trained the Burnet Bullpups in Thursday night action at Hawk Field, 22-0.

Trenton Lorett decided to get his dog trained and took the Bullpups for several long runs that eventually caused a dog with a long tongue hanging and needing rest.

“When I got hit at the first of the game, it got me mad and that helped me get into the game and I just got faster,” Lorett surmised.

This might be something Mountain Valley Coaches might want to remember when track season starts this next year to help Lorett before he has a race…(do ask his parent’s first though)

Lorett not only averaged over 24 yards per carry, the never be denied runner intercepted a pass before half and 76 yards later had Mountain Valley in control 16-0 in this contest.

“I didn’t look at the clock and I just got the ball and started running,” Lorett said nonchalantly talking about his interception.

Mtn. Valley 7th Grade Split with Navarro, 16-8 & 8-26

Friday, November 9th, 2012

District Champions 7'B' Squad with Scoreboard saying it all. Congrats!!

Mountain Valley 7th A squad was much better than this final score as turnovers played a key roll in a, 26-8 loss to Navarro for their last game of this season at Hawk Stadium.

Navarro is not a team you can beat very often when you have the turnover bug. The Panthers are a ground team that can churn out yards while bleeding the clock.

Those two realities were present in this battle, as two fumbles and interception led to a touchdown with a lot of lost time for the visitors and no time to make up the deficit for Mountain Valley.

Navarro had first dibs and moved the ball 64 yards on 11 plays while taking off all but 1:34 left on the first quarter clock.

Then two plays and a fumble for Mountain Valley left the Hawk offense looking from the sideline again. All told, MV had the ball for seven total plays in the first half.

Navarro is a good example of teams that very seldom make mistakes. Just two penalties for seven yards and no turnovers was the difference in this game.

Mountain Valley Splits 8th A and B Squad with Texans

Friday, October 26th, 2012

Mountain Valley 8th Grade A and B team split with Wimberley last Thursday night at Hawk Stadium.

In the ‘A’ Game, MV started the game with an impressive three play 55 yard drive to tie the score with five minutes left in the second quarter.

Spit End Tyler Shipman had a juggling catch over the middle going for 43 yards for the score. Shipman juggled the ball for ten yards before his clutch of the ball had a positive result.

“It went up in the air and I did not see it and then it popped up again and then I caught it,” Shipman retold the story. “Felt really good and I was tired.”

Anthony Rodriguez also let his presence known against Wimberley.

Rodriguez was responsible for tackle behind by five yards causing a fumble for the Texan runner.

Mountain Valley Seventh Grade Sweep the ‘Dogs, 34-2 & 16-12

Friday, October 19th, 2012

The ReSporter thinks the best word do describe Mountain Valley’s Seventh Grade

Mountain Valley Seventh 'B' Squad Talk about Win over Bandera

Football teams would be ‘Impressive’.

Mountain Valley 7th ‘B’ squad could of beaten Bandera’s ‘A’ team but instead had a chance to play the ‘B’ squad.

After spotting their opponent 12 points, then MV started dominating the rest of this contest.

The Hawk defense allowed 60 yards for Bandera’s first two scores and then clamped down for negative 21 yards for the rest of the game.

With an interception return, when MV was on the Bulldogs eight yard line the return covered 100 yards and what seemed at the time an avalanche against this Hawk team.

Then it happened: QB Triston McPhee went back for a pass and another interception was going to bury them, until Matthew Rhodes had other plans.

While the Bullpup was returning the int. Rhodes not only stopped the run but stole the ball from his arms and promptly ran 65 yards for the Hawks first score.
