Pre/Game look at Navarro game

Canyon Lake softball team is about to join a fun group. The girls have been in the playoffs in Volleyball (twice), Soccer, Basketball, and the Track team is sending several athletes to Regions again this year.

The Hawks have played Navarro two times in the short history of the school and enjoy a 2-0 record.

In the game earlier this season CL scored 11 runs which is the third most for the season.

The game can be broken down with the three most important components: Fielding—Batting—Pitching

This is how the two teams match up for this game:

Fielding is certainly in the Hawks favor….yes they do have issues and aren’t perfect, but the team has the ability to not let the errors sink their ship this season.

The Navarro Panthers are not as good in this area and the Hawks will use the extra base runners in order to score more runs.

Fielding Pct. Hawks .908 Panthers .830

Batting is not the Hawks strength, especially if they need power from the plate. Some pitchers can have their number, but in this game Canyon Lake has already had success against Herzog.

The Hawks are very good at manufacturing runs and so the power game is not a make or break situation.

Navarro was held to four hits in their last game against the Hawks. The Panthers do have some good hitting in the lineup, that Canyon Lake will need to take notice.

The Panthers have 23 triples and seven homeruns this season. Herzog will be the batter to watch as she will try to help the pitcher (Herzog) win the game.

Herzog has a .369 batting average, seven doubles, eight triples, and two homeruns. She would be the first in every Hawk category if she had the other uniform on.

Trevino and Pollok are the other players with impressive numbers, they both bat over .400 and also show power.

Romero and the defense will be busy, the good news is in the earlier game the Panthers garnered four total hits and only one double.

Team Batting Ave. Hawks .286 Panthers .350

Pitching is the strength for the Hawks and Missy Romero has one of the lowest era’s in District play. Romero has given up only six earned runs in the nine district games.

The good news for the Hawks is the low run total is based on the defense rather that the strikeout pitch.

Herzog will be in the circle for Navarro and the Hawks will be coming into the game with some confidence from the earlier game.

Team ERA Hawks 2.18 Panthers 5.07

The Misc. comes with Navarro playing their last game of the season and the Hawks wanting to cement their second place finish.

Besides the batting average, the Hawks have the advantage and the team can certainly win the game…

Playing at home is the icing on the cake.

Now go out there and Blow out those Candles.
