Lady Hawks Place 3rd in their Pool at the Navarro Tournament
One truism you can take from Softball Tournament games when starting out your season is a team does everything they can to see all of their players.
Hence the third place finish in their pool is not a bad circumstance based on when Coaches are searching for that diamond that might come out in game situations. The Lady Hawks lost their first game with Poteet, 10-5 but rebounded quite well when they squashed Luling for their final contest, 17-2.
Also note that if CL is working on giving pitchers time in the circle, then you have to surmise that other teams are working on finding those same ‘diamonds’ for their clubs.
Kelsey Ahrens and Cameron Berger both got some circle duties on Saturday as Head Coach John Gallagher is searching for some answers there as well as in the field as several players had an opportunity to show off.
Canyon Lake is sprinkled with many Freshman and Sophomores this year, but it might be those Seniors that will supply the leadership needed by word or action.
Lilimae Daily was one noticeable Senior that seemed to be a different player than the young lady who played last year.

The double was a gapper and was hit with some degree of authority. Much like this senior is walking to the plate.
Last season Daily was hoping to have a good at bat and on this day she was wondering where she was going to hit this beach ball.
“I have so much more confidence than I did last year,” Daily swatted the ball. “I’m visually seeing the ball and I’m crowding the plate when I come to bat.”
“My weakness has been the outside pitch, but by crowding the plate I can handle that pitch now and it also intimidates a pitcher.”
Wow!! That last phrase came out of this nice docile face that now seems intent on tearing the cover off the ball when approaching the plate.
“She’s hitting a lot better,” Coach Gallagher said matter of fact.
Add those same intangibles to all the Seniors and you can see that this might be a special year.

Impressive coming out party for this team that now has younger players that have also added some pop to this lineup.
But don’t get carried away just yet for those same reasons this column started when the ReSporter talked about so many games in such a short time frame and how this type of game will favor hitters over pitching.
Canyon Lake will take the field next Tuesday against Blanco at home and you can come and see for yourself on your thoughts about this young upstart team.
