Lady Hawks get Burned Playing with Fire in Loss to Texans, 7-6

Senior McKenna Beseda leads Canyon Lake with 28 hits and .549 Batting Average

Canyon Lake gave up their precious lead in the seventh inning and with that lead also gave up a chance for the playoffs.

The Hawks were playing with fire for much of this game as Wimberley had left 12 base runners stranded through the first six innings.

Canyon Lake had kept the Texans on those bases with no runs showing for a potent team batting average.

Texans’ on base percentage was .535 for the game.

Hits 11
Walks 8
Hit Batters 4

The Hawks were opportunistic by having some clutch outs.

Inning on base runs out
First 3 1 Pop up to Kelsey Ahrens
Second 2 1 Great running catch by McKenna Beseda in centerfield.
Third 2 0 Alexis Robinson struck out the side.
Fourth 2 2 Full count K and an Ahrens to Daily ground out.
Fifth 2 0 Robinson threw out runner at third, then fly ball out.
Sixth 3 0 Bases loaded K on full count and then fly ball out.
Seventh 2 3 Damage done..a pop up to V.Henderson finished inning.

CL had their first three batters score in the first inning and then continued that onslaught with another two runs in the second.

Those five runs would need some more help, but the sixth inning proved to be that (what if) inning as two Hawks were gunned down on the base paths.

Cassidy Riccio laid a soft hit over first base and decided to try and stretch for a double…that was a painful decision as Vicky Henderson tried to score on Riccio’s run-down and what could of been those precious runs to ice a game away turned into an awkward double play for Wimberley.

Henderson and Ahrens led the Hawks with two hits a piece while Beseda recorded two rbi’s in the contest.

Canyon Lake will now finish out their year with two games next week at the Hawk Diamond on Tuesday and then a short drive to Navarro for the finale on Friday.

Tuesday night will be your last time to catch four Seniors who have given time and effort to a team that is certainly on the rise.

Come out and watch the Hawks try to finish with a two game winning streak.
