Track & Field: Hawks Get Two to State Meet
Canyon Lake will have two representatives for the Track & Field State Meet, May 10-11 in Austin after two
CL athletes decided to Jump over to Austin in a couple of weeks.
Marisa Ellis and Jordan Anderson will both be making their second visit after placing in last year’s meet, albeit in different events.
Both Ellis and Anderson participated last season in the Triple Jump and 400 Meter Dash respectfully and now have come together to compete again in the High Jump.
In the Region Track Meet in Kingsville over the week-end Ellis had a rough hour as she competed in her two qualifying events at the same time.
That seems to not be a very fair way of coming up with the best athletes as Ellis was going from one venue to another as other girls were waiting for Ellis to High or Triple Jump.
So, as other students were able to focus and concentrate on one event, you had Ellis going back and forth to hope and compete at her best.
Ellis had a High Jump of 5’4 and was awarded second place when she got that level with fewer misses.
The Triple Jump, Ellis finished in fourth place with a jump of 36’10 and scoring 12 points for Canyon Lake in the Region Meet.
Kaelin Simmons failed to make it into the points phrase of this Meet, however she did top her previous best Shot Put mark with a new record of 34’5, while her Discus throw did not top her previous best of 111’0 but having the opportunity of participating in two events had to be a great experience.
This will give other Hawks a new level to throw for in future years.
CL Hawks 1600 Meter Relay also had their highest finish in a Region Meet when they finished in 6th place and helping Canyon Lake finish with 14 points only 2 points away from Fredericksburg, who won District 27-3A by 107 points over the Hawks.
District 27-3A
Girls Region Finish Team Points Boys Region Finish Team Points
Fredericksburg 16 Fredericksburg 31
Canyon Lake Hawks 14 Canyon Lake Hawks 10
Wimberley 11 Navarro 10
Bandera 6 Boerne 6
Boerne 6 Wimberley 4
Navarro 4 Bandera 1
Jordan Anderson will also travel to Austin and try out a different venue in the High Jump which is different from his 400 Meter Dash he ran last season.
Anderson won the High Jump event with a 6’4 mark as he got the top mark by having less misses as he was jumping against just one other athlete.
Now if the High Jump stays to form, then Anderson will be one of the favorites to win this event.
Anderson will sign on with Angelo State University this week and hopefully that will have him jumping when he reaches Austin in May.
Stay tuned as The ReSporter will have more updates as the State Meet draws closer.
Congrats to all the Canyon Lake students who competed this year and now go get em Marisa Ellis and Jordan Anderson.
