MVMS 7th Dominate Wimberley, 38-0
Mountain Valley 7th Grade gathering for their first of many after game talks with a score that far exceeds their competition.
Mountain Valley Middle School 7th Grade started their football career with a kick-off return for a touchdown.
Nelson Madera did the damage with a little help from his friends as he found a seam down the right sideline and ran for pay dirt.
“I just thought, ‘I can’t get tackled’,” Madera said while stiff arming this ReSporter. “It was awesome and we just want to get better and never stop trying.”
A little help from a friend came for Madera’s run, when Ethan Slater had a clearing block, that took out two Texans in pursuit and leaving Madera a clear path to the goal line.
“The Coaches teach us everything and it is those little things that helps us to do a good job,” Slater said with conviction. “They (Coaches) want to make sure all the little details are thought about….it was great being able to complete Madera’s run with a block and getting him out of trouble for the TD.”
Slater exemplifies something that will help this team as the year progresses, teamwork and executing what Coaches are wanting.
The Hawks next play was the kick off and with a jarring tackle and fumble recovery on this play, allowed Mountain Valley a short field to have another chance of administering more damage to this Texans’ team.

Three plays was all it took to take whatever Wimberley thought of winning into figuring out if their bus driver could take a short cut home around the Devil’s Backbone.
“If you would of told me we would have started the game this way, I never would have believed you,” Head Coach Jay Lopez said. “The way everyone has worked hard just made this a team effort.”
Wimberley did not know what hit them as MV took the game and beat a hapless Texan club that was controlled in every way possible.
The Texans quarterback completed more passes to Mountain Valley than they did to their own players.
A Hawk defense that held Wimberley to just 2.1 yards per play while MV would enjoy 7 yards per play and having two interceptions and one fumble recovery pretty much spelled a Hawk victory.
Complete domination would be an understatement for this lethal Seventh Grade team.
In that second half, Wimberley was not able to get one first down and had the ball for just five plays. Repeat, only five plays and one of those drives was an interception by Nick Rivera.
With all the opportunities of miscues from Wimberley, this Hawk team did not have as many chances with their offense doing the damage.
Running the kick-off back and interception return by Cody Kline would just give the Texans the ball after a Hawk score. Those two plays took just 24 seconds off the clock, but with a trade off of 14 points, then you take your win anyway possible.
Mountain Valley’s offense had the ball four times and scored on three of those possessions with the fourth try ending by running out the clock.
Cody Daily was one of many players The ReSporter could have asked for an interview, as Daily finished this game with an eight yard per carry average. Just another back that would have a banner day to start a promising football career.
“Without the line we could not go anywhere,” Daily said so eloquently. “We should get back with Wimberley next year and have many more games to come.”
Daily said while thinking of dominating every game with another group of players that will be following in the footsteps of the Freshman and 8th Grade teams.
Three years of what looks to be a salty group of players will pay dividends as this teams get older and come together for what looks like a decent team in the near future.
“This was not so much about our record because we have a one game at a time saying,” Coach Lopez closed. “We take things every single day and this team is something much bigger and it is great as a Coach to play and coach for a community like Canyon Lake.”
