Senior Matt Adams is all smiles after comeback win over SM Academy

Canyon Lake’s Soccer program has now stepped out into an area never before seen in any past season, SIX WINS!!

The Hawks traveled to San Marcos Academy and beat a 10-3 team with a goal by Mike Thorpe in the second half.

San Marcos took the early lead but Canyon Lake fought back and never allowed another goal for the win.

CL is presently on a 4 game winning streak which is more games than the team won in 3 of their season and has tied two years of playing soccer.

“This was a really good win against a real good team,” Head Coach Warren Graham admonished. “I was a little nervous before the game and I am proud of our effort especially when we went down, 1-0 and then seeing the team locking it on defense.”

That second half has most of those minutes being played on CL’s side of the field but during those final 4-5 minutes, the Hawks had some scary moments as San Marcos Academy started pressing and getting some shots on goal.

Senior Matt Adams scored the first goal which brought the game erasing a SM lead.

“We just focused to be sure we were ready before this game,” Adams said matter of factly. “This the first year that we have believed in the team and now we are doing well.”

There has been some roster changes and Canyon Lake looked in sync for this big victory.

“We are starting to jell,” Adams closed. “We are starting to play together and when we can do that, then we play better.”

Playing better is an understatement as this has been a good couple of weeks now as Canyon Lake will be playing just their second home game this year on Friday when Burnet comes to town for a 5pm kick.

So another chance to increase those goals stated earlier in this article as Canyon Lake will find out how much they have improved from their earlier game with Burnet after a 3-1 win in the middle of January.

“We are in good shape and we are really clicking right now and we are in good shape going into district play,” Coach Graham surmised. “We will have some time to rest up and this is coming at a good time for us.”

Come and watch the Hawks as they now start working on a 4 game winning streak and look to increase their win total.

Canyon Lake’s JV Soccer team beat Burbank at home 3-0 tonight as this turned into a good night for the Hawk Nation.
