Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016Lady Hawks Soccer Win by Tying Burnet, 3-3
Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016Canyon Lake Girls Soccer won a tied game when they came from 3 goals down to knot the score as time expired on Tuesday night against Burnet, 3-3.
Burnet jumped out to a 3 goal lead and had CL on their heels until an awakening happened allowing this comeback.
“The girls played aggressive last night and the first half was rough for us offensively,” Head Coach Ryan Tierney said. “We had opportunities but could not put the ball in the net.”
Coach Tierney was commenting on that first half where the Hawks found themselves digging a hole that would be hard to escape from.
“The girls dug deep and made a decision as a unit to fight,” Coach Tierney got excited. “Rachel Bennet sent a the ball to Meredith Ellery who then scored off her left foot and Captain Chloe Cullen fired a shot into the back of the net inside the 18 yard box bringing the score to 2-3.”
Hawks Fly High Over Gobblers, 61-34
Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016Canyon Lake did what needed to be done to realize their chance for a playoff game by flying away from the Cuero Gobblers on Tuesday night, 61-34.
Brandon Ward was the hot player on this night as he finished with 21 points and making 4 shots from beyond the arc.
The Hawks also had surprise points from Gerrit Wilkins and Sam Langford as these two players combined for 20 point to offset the scoring woes from Rory Preiss and Will Gray.
Canyon Lake is averaging right at 10 points a game from Ward, Preiss, and Gray for district play and having those two players combine with 7 points meant other players would need to step up.
Dentists Find Skin on Teeth in Lady Hawks Win, 39-38
Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016The Lady Hawks won a close one over Cuero to stay on the inside track for a chance at playing more games.
“Last night was another example of finding a way to win despite not having our outside shooting on par and also struggling to get to the line,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher recounted. “We feel blessed to have walked away with that win, it was a dog fight.”
Canyon Lake won just one quarter, as the Lady Hawks outscored the Gobblers by 6 points in the 3rd quarter which held up for a win.
Alexa Ramos continues her strong play as she pumped in 13 points with 2 goals coming beyond the 3 point line.
“Alexa (Ramos) and Mia (Riali) were in foul trouble again and that killed us,” Coach Gallagher said. “Ramos is our energy and heartbeat as well as Mia, so we struggled at times to keep the tempo up.”
Ramos continues her climb on the All-Time lists as she is now behind just two players in steals, needing just 8 more to pass Katie Williams who finished her career with 139.
CL Hawks Score Upset over San Marcos Academy, 2-1
Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016Canyon Lake’s Soccer program has now stepped out into an area never before seen in any past season, SIX WINS!!
The Hawks traveled to San Marcos Academy and beat a 10-3 team with a goal by Mike Thorpe in the second half.
San Marcos took the early lead but Canyon Lake fought back and never allowed another goal for the win.
CL is presently on a 4 game winning streak which is more games than the team won in 3 of their season and has tied two years of playing soccer.
“This was a really good win against a real good team,” Head Coach Warren Graham admonished. “I was a little nervous before the game and I am proud of our effort especially when we went down, 1-0 and then seeing the team locking it on defense.”
UIL Realignment is Announced for Canyon Lake

Taylor Fredericksburg Boerne
Austin Eastside Memorial CL Hawks
When Summer goes into it’s final stages, then these 5 schools will begin getting prepared to compete against each other for a Football Crown.
Every two years, the schools have to realign based on enrollment so teams can compete with others that have similar numbers of students.
Bandera and Liberty Hill will leave for different districts while CL added Austin Memorial on the Eastside.
Bandera absence was based on having a smaller number of kiddos while Liberty Hill was moved to match up with other schools closer to where they live.

CL Hawks Soccer Beat Lampasas, 2-1
Saturday, January 30th, 2016
Canyon Lake Boy’s Soccer won their third game in a row when they outscored Lampasas, 2-1 on the road.
This 3 game streak has all been road games as that song will continue when the Hawks will match up with San Marcos Academy this coming Tuesday.
All three games have been close as CL has given up just 2 goals in those games.
“Brayden Damico keeps getting better with every game we play,” Head Coach Warren Graham stated. “He’s been working hard after practice to develop as a keeper and it’s paying off on the field.”
Lady Hawks Still Looking for Signature Win, Lose to Navarro, 49-40
Saturday, January 30th, 2016Canyon Lake continues to knock on the door but just could not break it down in another close loss to Navarro, 49-40.
“We just were not in sync tonight,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “We played hard, but our defense was not clicking and we struggled to get into rhythm.”
The Hawks continue to improve as Senior Emma Gray rehabs for another shot of playing in the final contests as CL looks to find an open door.
On this night Sarah Russell was on with 5 shots from beyond the arc and 17 points as Sophomore energizer Alexa Ramos found her teammate open on her drives to the basket.
In fact, Ramos was perfect from the floor finishing with 9 points but foul trouble would spell her’s and Canyon Lake’s doom on this night.
